There is a certain problem in ecological monitoring of the environment state according to the measured values of a certain abiotic factor. Namely, how to build a continuous map of environmental pollution throughout the controlled area, based on the results of measurements carried out at a finite number of points inside the controlled territory. The aim of the work is to study the possibility of using the method of self organizing neural maps (SOM) for the problems of the ecological monitoring of the environment, and specifically for building an accurate continuous map of environmental pollution on the ground. The materials and methods of researches are the results of measurements the ambient equivalent of the continuous X-ray and gamma radiation dose rate on a territory of the historical center of Kharkiv has been used as research materials; processing of the obtained data by SOM's methods using MatLab 8.1 and STATISTICA 10 computer programs has been done. Results: in the process of 1000 self-learning cycles of a neural network of 100 initial active neurons randomly located on the controlled area map, 25 neural clusters have been obtained, the coordinates of the centers of which practically coincided with the 25 control points coordinates. A continuous map of the background radiation on the controlled area has been built. The accuracy of this map was no worse than 0.25 μR/hour. Conclusions: the possibility of using the SOM methods to build a continuous map of the level of environmental pollution on the ground based on the results of measuring the values of a certain abiotic factor in a finite number of points has been proven. It has been proven that this method is more accurate compared to the methods of regression mapping and cluster analysis, from which it is essentially different. The possibilities for a significant improvement in the accuracy of the method lie in increasing the number of initial neurons on the terrain map and the number of iterations during their training.

The paper discusses a system of criteria that make it possible to assess the level of environmental safety of an enterprise. The model of the “nature-population-production” system and the very interaction of the system are presented. Environmental problems, problems of ecology of production, and consumption of natural resources lead to an increase in the rate of growth of production, which, in turn, leads to an increase in demand for resources, and as a consequence, to their irrational use, and then to massive emissions into the environment as waste. In order to improve the environmental situation in the country, some areas for improving the greening of the production sector are presented, which increase the efficiency of consumption and use of natural resources, while reducing environmental pollution by emissions, effluents, and waste. The main indicators that determine the level of environmental management are presented - indicators of resource intensity, an indicator of the degree of restoration of natural resources, and indicators of saving primary natural resources. All three indicators are part of the specific consumption of natural resources and can be used at the enterprise to control the consumption of natural resources, as well as in order to minimize waste through the use of secondary resources and low-waste technologies. The established ways of improving the greening of the production sector are able to improve the ecological situation in the regions of the country and establish the relationship between man, nature and the production sector.

The article examines the concepts of sustainable development and tourist attractiveness of territories and determines the relationship between them. Sustainable development, as well as the tourist attractiveness of the territory, are characterized mainly by economic, social and environmental characteristics. These include the turnover of tourist services, the number of rooms in hotels, the number of people employed in tourism, the ecological situation, the availability and condition of historical and cultural monuments, the level of crime, etc. The results of studies of sustainable development and tourist attractiveness of the territories of the Siberian and Ural Federal Districts of Russia are studied. Changes in rating indicators of the tourist potential of the regions of the Russian Federation are analyzed. The conclusion is made about a direct relationship between the level of sustainable development and the tourist attractiveness of territories.

The article describes the technology of using the Foursquare service, the folium library, as well as clustering techniques based on the k-means method for analyzing and assessing the quality of life of the population in large cities, where more than 100 thousand people live. The main indicators of the quality of life of the population of a particular city were selected data on migration flows, housing price, as well as the environmental situation. During the study, a hypothesis was determined about the direct dependence of the outflow of the urban population on the level of high cost of housing, as well as on the level of the ecological situation of a particular city. As a result of the analysis, a figurative relationship between the cost of housing and the outflow of the urban population was revealed – in cities with a high cost of housing the highest level of population growth. In addition, in cities where there is an outflow of urban population, along with a very low cost of housing, the highest level of environmental pollution was found. Also, clustering of cities using the k-means method showed that in cities with a high cost of housing and a high rate of population growth due to migration flows, a low level of environmental pollution was revealed. The capabilities of the folium library of the Python programming language made it possible to visually present an interactive map of the country with the level of the ecological situation of cities. According to the author, the results of such studies affect not only the formation of managerial decisions at the federal and regional levels, but also on the assessment of the attractiveness of the city for the life of the local population, as well as people planning to change their place of residence.

It were explored ecological conditions of geomorphosphere, soil cover, surface, subsoil and underground waters by the author that allowed estimating a modern ecological situation as favorable. Expansion of Carpathians National Natural Park and creation of a new National Natural Park of Verhovyna is recommended. Key words: ecological situation, landscape, ecological monitoring.

A number of environmental-management-related problems and issues arise during an assessment of operating and to-be-constructed enterprises in terms of their potential as sources of environmental pollution. The authors claims that a formulation of conditions for carrying out not only an ecological, but also an ethnological examination which will consider the impact of natural factors on the population of the region is required. The issues of environmental protections are considered as evidenced in the Murmansk region, whose many districts are sparsely populated regions and have one industrial enterprise, which excludes their mutual influence from the scope of research and allows the researchers to take a more consistent approach in tracking and analyzing the influence of each separate enterprise on the ecological situation in all the adjoining territories.

The article presents the results of investigations of geoecological state of settlements of Kryvyi Rih district of Dnipropetrovsk region adjacent to the tailings dump of the SkhidHZK of the Shcherbakivska beam. The rational complex of geological and geophysical methods for assessing the geoecological state of technogenic-loaded areas near to the tailings dump is grounded, considering the peculiarities of the territory tectonic structure and possible geodynamic changes of the state of the geological environment. Recommendations for the complex of geological and geophysical methods for the effective solution of ecological monitoring problems with the purpose of possible changes of the geological environment under the influence of natural and man-made processes around the tailings dump of radioactive waste are developed. In the future in the settlements connected with the possible emergency ecological situation due to the proximity to the tailing dump the SkhidHZK the Shcherbakivska beam, it is necessary to take a number of measures directed at the constant conduct of round-the-clock geoecological monitoring and limitation of external and internal chronic exposure of the population. It is assumed that in case of deterioration of the environmental situation based on the results of round-the-clock monitoring research, it will allow to fulfil the timely receipt of information from the monitoring unit to the information user that is responsible for making of managerial decisions on protecting the population of settlements adjacent to the Shcherbakivska beam.

Electron microscopy and energy dispersive x-ray microanalysis (EDXA) are found to be very useful tools for identification of etiologic agents in pneumoconiosis or interstitial pulmonary disorders. Pulmonary interstitial fibrosis and granulomatosis are frequently associated with occupational and environmental pollution. Numerous reports of pneumoconiosis in various occupations such as coal and gold miners are presented in the literature. However, there is no known documented case of pulmonary changes in workers in the sandpaper industry. This study reports a rare case of pulmonary granulomatosis containing deposits from abrasives of sandpaper diagnosed by using EDXA.
