Monocropping, the widely practiced traditional coconut cultivation system in Sri Lanka, utilizes bio-physical resources sub optimally, generating low returns to growers than its potential under an intensive cultivation alternative, coconut-based intercropping (CBI). Despite concerted efforts of successive governments, the adoption of CBI systems by farmers is low. This study investigates the farmers' perceptions of CBI on the premise that the understanding of farmers’ perceptions of a new technology is important to identify the causes for the low adoption of that technology. Data were gathered by a field survey of 113 and 37 intercroppers and monocroppers respectively, in three main coconut-growing districts, namely Kurunegala, Gampaha and Puttalam, using a structured questionnaire supplemented with open-ended questions, through a single visit. Percentage analysis supplemented with a simple scoring device was employed to analyze the farmer's perceptions of CBI. Intercroppers objectives of intercropping, the constraints they face in expanding intercropping, reasons for non-adoption of CBI by present monocroppers and the suggestions of present intercroppers to further expand the CBI, all in the order of importance, are presented.

Area of the StudyAs a significant determinant of the competitiveness and effectiveness of the entity, this study is to discuss what attributes of employer or determinants of Employer Branding (EB) are paramount for the attraction of final year management undergraduates towards the employer in Sri Lanka. Problem of the Study Theoretical and empirical gap of the knowledge available, especially in Sri Lanka with regard to determinants of EB which effect to the selection of future employer of the final year management undergraduates. Method of the study For the purpose of the study, data were collected from a randomly selected 300 final year management undergraduate students from 03 government universities in Sri Lanka by administrating a structured questionnaire, which consisted of 32 questions/statements with 7 point scale. The data analysis included the univariate and bivariate analyses. Findings of the Study The findings of the study are undergraduates more concern over the development, economic and social dimensions when they choose their future employer. The preference over the factors does not have significant impact based on the gender while there is significant differences of perceptions occur on factors of EB based on the level of academic achievement of the students. Furthermore the preferences over the EB factors have some differences based on the academic institution. Female students more prefer to be employed in public sector than the private sector compared to the male students. Conclusion of the Study It is concluded that in order to attract young talented graduates towards the employer, the organization must have a climate which fulfill the developmental, social and economic needs of the employees. Library of a university considered as an important entity of a university and employees of the library have a key role to play in disseminating knowledge to the academic clientele in the university. This study conducted to comprehensively investigate the job satisfaction of employees as the main objective and followed by identifying the main factors and finally to provide suggestions to overcome the dissatisfaction level of jobs of staff serving in respective universities. Study sample comprised with 510 respondents representing all professional, para-professional and support staff categories working in 14 university libraries in Sri Lanka. Semi structured questionnaire with five point likert scale used to collect quantitative data for the study. The study findings indicates that university library employees were moderately satisfied with their jobs and in general and co-workers, salary and benefits, physical working condition, career development opportunities, work itself, appreciation and feedback identified as the main factors of job satisfaction. The present study recommend to take immediate measurements to enhance the level of job satisfaction among employees by enhancing a collaborative working atmosphere, provide more career development opportunities, establish a proper mechanism for provide appreciation and feedback to enrich the current level of job satisfaction of library staff.

The purpose of this research is to explore the factors that influence microfinance loan default in Sri Lanka. Both a deductive and a quantitative approach were employed. A structured questionnaire was designed by 5 Likert-scale. Questionnaires were distributed among 133 microfinance loan borrowers in the region of the Matugama Divisional Secretariat using convenient sampling. SPSS version 22 used to perform the exploratory factor analysis. The findings of this study confirmed three factors useful to explain microfinance loan default in Sri Lanka. These are the actions of the Microfinance Institute to control loan defaulting; the characteristics of the borrowers’ family and loan group; and macro-economic issues. The findings of this study could be used by managers of Microfinance Institutes to manage their credit risk and customer portfolio. Certain policy implications such as possibility of granting access to Credit Information Bureau of Sri Lanka, accessing credit history of customers and government decisions directing Microfinance Institutes to request securities from its customers are few of them.

Field survey provides data for further research and is a key link in research on traditional settlements and other architectural heritage. However, due to the complexity of the landform, layout, orientation of buildings, forms and structures of traditional settlements, mapping and other fieldwork may take much time and efforts and are very difficult. Besides, satellite remote sensing data are few. Therefore it is necessary to introduce some advanced equipment and technology for spatial information acquisition. Through years of experiments with aerial and ground-based equipments, the author finds that small unmanned helicopter, with its multi-functional spatial information acquisition capacity, is the best choice for the research of traditional settlements and other related fields.

This study aims to identify the human resources challenges existing in the apparel sector of Sri Lanka and provide recommendations to secure with managing the barriers to go ahead with future sustainability in the industry. The research approach is qualitative and followed the case study method. Face to face interviews was the method of collecting data by following a semi-structured questionnaire for the research, and the data analysis method was the thematic analysis. The finding demonstrates nine core human resources challenges in the apparel industry in Sri Lanka.


This study aims to show the influence of the three types of leadership style: Autocratic, Democratic and Laissez-Faire on an organization's success and the study was conducted through a field survey of 60 respondents from different popular restaurants of Mymensingh, Bangladesh. The researchers designed and administered a well designed structured questionnaire in a combination that includes both open and close to collect data. After collecting data from the field, the researchers carry out a comprehensive statistical analysis to analyze the research objectives. However; the study finds that the driving factors that have a major impact on organizational performance are Advice, Decision Making, Involvement, Consultation, and Shared and the democratic leadership style has a strong affirmative impact on the organizational performance. The factors: Leadership barriers, Expression of views, Communication, Stay out of the way, Freedom, Rewards or Punishment, Policies, Refusal to explain and Order and Procedures are not available in the results of the organizations. The study also finds that the factors of autocratic leadership have a significant negative impact on the organizational and the style of laissez-faire management does not affect the organization's outcomes.

The irresponsible destructive fishing practices with respect to the ecosystem approach have remained a major concern since the elimination of these practices has not been easy despite efforts. There is an urgent need to identify the different types of destructive fishing methods and their threats to fisheries then, to assess how the different organizations/groups/individuals confront with these threats. This study was carried out in Pesalai, a fisheries village in the Mannar district of Northern Sri Lanka in the years 2016 and 2017. The methodology employed consists of a pre-tested structured questionnaire in the field survey with a random sample of 310 fishers and a focus group discussion was conducted where 20 fishers actively participated. The results revealed that trawling net fishing, dynamite fishing, brush pile fishing, and stake net were being used extensively by the fishers. However, the use of such gears have facilitated to catch more fish and earning a high income. Resultant, the major negative impacts were gearing damages, nets damages and net loss. It is apparently found that, the majority of fisheries (93%) had faith in fisher community organizations (fisheries co-op society, the church/father and women welfare society) in terms of resolving conflicts which were raised by destructive fisheries (wrangling, argument and dissension) while 7% of the respondents have faith in the state to resolve conflicts. The fisheries believed that, the government supports for fishing activities was not well required. Hence, it is strongly concluded that the Regulations should be enforced, as a joint effort between the department of fisheries and community organizations.
