The article gives an overview of open access projects that form the new infrastructure for scientific communication. It provides information on initiatives and programs contributing to the development of open science in Russia and in the world. The paper also describes innovative scientific projects and platforms that significantly accelerate exchange of information and communication between scientists and create new opportunities for their cooperation and for society. The scientific novelty of the article consists in the distinction between the notions of ‘publication’ and ‘article’ or ‘edition’ in the context of scientific communication and the work of libraries, the description of the challenges that the new media era puts behind the system of scientific communications and libraries, and Russian projects, which aim to solve the described problems. The system of scientific communication has transformed significantly over the past two decades, alternative channels of information exchange are beginning to play a leading role and become the competitors of the traditional media (scientific journals), which have converted into electronic form, but still remain rooted in the past, supported by the inertia of administration of science. In Russia the achievements of open science are still much too modest compared to Europe, but the necessary background has already been created by libraries and non-for-profit organizations. Further development of such projects will depend on whether government, libraries and universities could use these instruments and the capabilities of the new media, reorienting to a new paradigm of access to scientific information.

Choosing the right strategy for further technological development and priority market segments are an important aspect for companies developing in the high-tech process market. The development of innovative is impossible without the information exchange and cooperation between the countries. Most of the companies in this market have limited resources. This requires a high rate of return on investment and appropriate protection. It is necessary to estimate the current level and to find out what contributes to the accumulation of knowledge and scientific information to reach the next stage of development. Such an assessment can be made on the basis of the collected data. Statistical indicators qualitatively and quantitatively characterize additive production. The article provides an analysis of current trends and statistical indicators that characterize international cooperation in the field of innovative processes, including additive technologies. The main channels of the transfer of these technologies are listed, and the structural associations responsible for the development and dissemination of knowledge are indicated. The dynamics of changes in the volume of state budget allocations for research and development work per scientist for leading European countries is analyzed. The dependence of the increase in the publication activity on the change in the ratio of the number of researchers per million people of the population for different countries is demonstrated. The leading countries in generating revenue from trade in equipment and technologies in the field of additive manufacturing and a country having the largest number of the patents in this field are identified.

The levels of knowledge hierarchy (i.e., data, information, knowledge, and wisdom), are described in the Qur’an, the ahadith, and the literature produced during Islamic civilization’s Golden Age. They also have been discussed by western and non-Muslim scholars. However, while implementing and using information and communication technology (ICT), only the first three levels are currently being explored and utilized. Wisdom has not been discussed to any great extent. ICT has designed systems to assist us and has improved our life and work. However, such tools as decision-support systems and executive information systems comprise only data, information, and knowledge. Comprehensiveness does not guarantee the possession of wisdom. Taking things apart is knowledge; putting things together is wisdom. Muslim scholars of the Golden Age analyzed data, drew relationships and interpreted data to create information, identified and determined the pattern to represent knowledge, and understood the foundational principles for the patterns to implement wisdom. Wisdom must be included if ICT is to be complete. People, organizations, and the nation must strive for wisdom as the ultimate goal: from an information society to a knowledge society to a wisdom society, and from information workers to knowledge workers to wisdom workers.

This chapter provides an overview of the antecedents and consequences of gossip in work groups. First, the chapter reviews the different motives for gossip in work groups (i.e., bonding, entertainment, emotional venting, information exchange, maintenance of group norms/social order, and interpersonal aggression) and links each motive to psychological theory. Second, the chapter reviews the different types of influence that gossip can have on various indicators of group effectiveness. Reflecting on the motives underlying gossip in work groups, as well as on its outcomes, it argues that future research should start integrating the diverse insights provided by earlier research on both gossip motives and outcomes, and it provides a number of suggestions for doing so.
