This paper uses findings from sustainability studies to present the development of environmental urban geography in Slovenia in recent decades. Modern European cities, of which Ljubljana is no exception, depart significantly from sustainable development concepts. Compared to other similar cities, Ljubljana has an effective green space system, which its residents also perceive as offering a better-quality living environment. The major, poorly addressed problems are primarily inherited issues, such as gravel pits, illegal dumping sites, and unregulated gardens in suburbanized water protection areas on which residents depend. These, however, show a large gap between claimed and actual environmental awareness.

Using educative environmental protection events such as “Environmental Protection Pioneer Campaign”, “Rewarding Recycling Campaign”, “Green Efforts Give Great Rewards Event”, “Environmental Protection Workshop”, “Environmental Campaign Day”, “Environmental Protection Carnival” and “Second-hand Bazaar” held in Park Island, Hong Kong, as a case study, the purpose is exploring how educative environmental protection events contribute to demonstrate environmentally friendly property management and raise the environmental protection awareness and encourage residents’ involvement to live green. Design/Methodology/Approach—This paper identifies environmental protection events as an effective strategy to raise environmental awareness for all of the estate residents. The objectives of environmental protection events aimat showing the importance of community involvement, demonstrating educative environmentally friendly property management and encourage residents to live green. Authors conducted twenty-five in-depth semi-structured interviews with participants so as to fully understand the contributions made by the events. Findings—Educative environmental protection events were perceived by all of the study participants as effective and educative events, which raised environmental awareness, upheld moral obligation to engage in environmental protection, and induced greater pro-environmental behavior to sustainability. Based on the results, the framework of 10 Cs is revealed which contributes to environmentally friendly environment for the next generation. These contributions are: 1) Circulating surplus materials to the needy 2) Choosing public transportation 3) Committing to green education 4) Cultivating pro-environmental behavior 5) Caring for sustainable development 6) Cutting Carbon lifestyle 7) Coordinating efforts to reduce, reuse, and recycle 8) Consuming less electricity 9) Concerning ocean creatures protection 10) Ceasing ozone depleting chemicals products Practical implications—Based on the insights gained from participants, the 10 Cs contributions are made by educative environmental protection events for nurturing moral obligation to demonstrate environmentally friendly property management and raise the environmental protection awareness and encourage residents’ involvement to live green. Participants should take part in all environmental-protection measures daily. The Estate Management Company and government should deepen cooperation in environmental protection, intensify ecological preservation and build a green living environment. Originality/value—This paper urges for the importance of all residents, all estate management companies and government to engage in environmental protection for sustainable development. The aim of such an episode is to arouse all stakeholders to participate in environmental protection actively and attentively for green environment.

Green space system planning is the most direct method to improve urban ecological environment from the perspective of planning. However, traditional way of green space system planning exposes its limitation of paying attention to only urban area, accompanied by the prominent appeal for the enhancement of urban ecological environment and living environment quality. Therefore, the study gives a preliminary discussion on the method of green spaces system planning based on GI theory by introducing the concept and characteristic of GI, and proposes urban-rural integrated green space environment formed by the organic combination of Hubs, Links, and Sites and an urban green space system able to keep the integrality and consecutiveness of natural ecological process, which offers reference for green space system planning of the new era.

Problems existed in the green space construction of city new districts, such as loss of ecological functions, the simple pursuit of quantity, high degree of landscape fragmentation. This paper took the concept of sustainable development as a guide, combined with new-district constructions of Sweden, Britain and Germany, the following proposals for green space system planning were put forward to realize sustainable development of new districts: planning should be oriented by ecological functions; positive interaction must be sought between green space system and the new-district space development; protection on the natural landscape resources and continuous landscape process must be strengthened; green space system planning should focus on the continuation of regional context.

Residential area greening is an important part of urban greening, close to the residents, the most closely relationship with residents' daily life, it is the improvement of the quality of living environment, improve people's physical and mental health is very important. Residential area greening level, is an important symbol of urban modernization. Residential green space's most widely distributed in the urban landscape green space system, is the crucial aspect of common greening, is an important part of the urban ecological system.

Public participation so far is not dedicated adequate attention in areas environmental protection. The objective of this work is to consider environmental awareness in northeastern Montenegro, on the example of municipalities Berane, Petnjica, Andrijevica, Plav and Gusinje. In accordance with the concept of sustainable development it is necessary is directed population on raising awareness on environmental protection. When the public better acquainted with the environmental problems, will be are able to help in solving them.

With the rapid development of urbanization in China, people’s requirements for the quality of life and environment are constantly improving. However, the shortage of resources and the deterioration of environment are becoming more and more serious. Environmental protection has become the only way for the sustainable development of society. Therefore, the application of more and more new green building materials has become the key to the sustainable development of the construction industry. In the face of the rapid development of modern construction industry, engineering quality and functional requirements have become the basic requirements, the green environmental protection has become a higher requirement. The application of green environmental protection building materials in engineering construction is the main development direction of the transformation of modern construction industry. At the same time, it conforms to the policy of environmentally sustainable development of all sectors of society, and promotes the construction industry to meet the higher requirements of green environmental protection living environment. This paper studied the performance and waterproof mechanism of a kind of high polymer (HDPE) self-adhered waterproofing membrane and its application in construction. Compared with the traditional waterproofing membrane, the high polymer self-adhered waterproofing membrane can give full play to the advantages of environmental protection on the premise of meeting the building quality.

Under the pressure of rapid urbanization, the development of urban land in Vietnam has invaded green lands and had a negative impact on their ecosystems and environments. The new urban development not only does not improve the demand for green urban space but makes the living environment worse. Studying the design seriously and putting forward solutions for green urban space is essential and urgent. Taking Da Nang as a case study, planning a network of multicenter urban green space would change ecological principles to create a sustainable urban ecosystem. This is based on a landscape metrics method to reveal the green space system characteristics and its spatial distribution, area, density, and shape. A set of shapes index including categories such as SHAPE, mean distance (m) between each cell (GYRATE) and mean Euclidean distance neighbour (ENN) was used to display the geometrical shape of patches and continuity. These indices stress the difference in spatial structure in various land-use types. This article draws upon ecological landscape theory to propose a green system of urban regions including green space wedges, greenways, corridors, greenbelts and green additions; these factors help to create a sustainable urban green space.

This paper focuses on the perceptions of sustainability and environmental protection expressed by the users of social networks (such as Facebook or WhatsApp). Forming the perception of climate change and environmental protection is a part of sustainable education. Social networks and Internet-based technologies might contribute to the process of gaining, processing and exchanging the information on sustainable development and to help to shape the social environmental awareness. Our results demonstrate that people who are familiar with the concept of sustainability consider environmental protection to be very important compared to those who are not familiar with this concept. In addition, it appears that people without any significant knowledge about sustainability are not interested in environmental protection. These outcomes suggest that sustainable education might help people in changing their perspectives and considering environmental protection to be essential for the future.
