Pharma in the Web

In the context of intensified business competition and globalization of markets, the strategic use of the Internet in e-commerce can provide a business advantage. The research scope was the evaluation and benchmarking of pharmaceutical companies’ Websites in Greece, in order to draw conclusions about the level of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) use and specifically the ways they become active in e-business. For the evaluation of the Websites, the authors used scientifically acceptable criteria suited to the business sector of our research. From the survey, it was unveiled that pharmaceutical companies operating in Greece have a rather limited Web presence. Specifically, out of the 112 pharmaceutical companies, only 60 have developed their own Website with the multinationals to be more active. In addition, the majority of the pharmaceutical companies’ Websites provide business information but limited additional information and interactive features to potential users. In conclusion, the pharmaceutical industry in Greece must undergo critical steps to further obtain an anthropocentric approach that the global pharmaceuticals sector has already begun to adopt.

The authors describe modern trends in development of the cadastral system. The main features of the procedure of cadastral registration and software systems that act as accounting and registration of automated databases are highlighted. The technological process of maintaining the unified state register of real estate is analyzed in detail. The modern system of information electronic interaction in the real estate register is designated. The role of information and communication technologies in the Russian cadastral system is shown. The authors propose a classification of online services of Rosreestr in a number of ways. The fourth group of online services is allocated as the most promising as it provides opportunities to obtain additional information at the common activity fields of different Executive authorities. The authors conclude that changes in the cadastral system of the Russian Federation are greatly influenced by global trends which in turn are aimed at expanding the functions of the cadastre as an information basis of land management.

Background: (1) The COVID-19 pandemic has generated significant changes in teaching methods around the world, and the ideal of online education has become a reality. (2) Methods: A questionnaire was modified for this study in order to determine the following levels of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) skills: file creation, file management, the use of emails, the use of the internet, and online communication. In total, 360 students from the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education (FSPE), University of Novi Sad, participated in the study. (3) Results: The results show that there are differences between the estimated level of ICT skills and the ICT skills used in online education, such that students estimate their level of ICT skills as being higher than is necessary for online education (p < 0.05). There is also a correlation between the satisfaction with online education and ICT skills, showing that students with higher ICT knowledge are more satisfied with online education (p < 0.05). There is another correlation between the satisfaction with online education and the frequency of ICT use—the more ICTs are included, the more satisfied the students will be (p < 0.05). (4) Conclusions: The results of this study can serve as a recommendation for the implementation of FSPE students’ training in ICT skills, as well as an important basis for the systematic creation, improvement, and sustainability of online education in universities.

<p class="3">Open Assessment of Learning (OAoL) is an emerging educational concept derived from the incorporation of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to education and is related with the Open Education Movement. In order to improve understanding of OAoL a literature review was conducted as a meta-synthesis of 100 studies on ICT-based assessment published from 1995 to 2015, selected from well-established peer-reviewed databases. The purpose of this study focused on identifying the common topics between ICT-based assessment and OAoL which is considered as an Open Educational Practice.</p><p class="3">The review showed that extensive use of the Internet makes it easy to achieve some special features of OAoL as collaboration or sharing, which are considered negative or inconvenient in traditional assessment but at the same time become elements that promote innovation on that topic. It was also found that there is still a great resistance to accept change (as OAoL does) when structural elements of traditional assessment are questioned or challenged.</p>

Information and communication technologies (ICT), particularly e-Commerce, are considered very important to the growth and competitiveness of businesses globally. SMEs too need to embrace innovative e-commerce strategies if they are to stay competitive, profitable and successful in local and global markets. Increased use of the Internet offers potential benefits to SMEs, such as cost reduction, improved operational efficiencies, access to new customers and enhanced business growth. However, SMEs, particularly in Uganda, have generally been slow in adopting e-commerce. Empirical research into the challenges SMEs in Uganda face in adopting electronic commerce is also limited. This study sought to explore the factors affecting e-commerce adoption among SMEs; and to establish the influence of e-commerce adoption on SMEs&rsquo; growth in Uganda. A structured, self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data from 172 owners/managers of SMEs in the Kampala District in Uganda. The empirical results of this study indicate that e-commerce adoption significantly influence the growth of SMEs.

This article presents an analysis of the presence in, and use of, the web by some forms of digital citizenry in a city of southern Italy: Catania. Its primary aim is to analyze how, also in a weak civil society, information and communication technologies (ICTs) create new opportunities for extending public sphere and for learning new modes of participatory local action for sustainable urban development. The local experiences presented in this research indicate that ICTs can facilitate a redistribution of local social powers, offering infrastructures and tools useful for implementing a continuous process of social interaction, exchange of knowledge and the development of practices, influencing policy processes and planning models.

The European Union is actively promoting the idea of “smart villages”. The increased uptake of new technology and in particular, the use of the internet, is seen as a vital part of strategies to combat rural decline. It is evident that those areas most poorly connected to the internet are those confronted by the greatest decline. The analysis in this paper is based on Poland, which at the time of EU accession had many deeply disadvantaged rural areas. Using fine-grained socio-economic data, an association can be found between weak internet access and rural decline in Poland. The preliminary conclusions about the utility of the smart village concept as a revitalisation tool for rural Poland point to theoretical and methodological dilemmas. Barriers to the concept’s implementation are also observed, although there is a chance they may be overcome with the continued spread of information and communication technologies in rural areas.

Scientific experiments are executed through activities that create, use, communicate and distribute information whose organizational dynamics are similar to processes performed by distributed cooperative enterprise units. On this premise, the aim of this article is to discuss how a portal-based approach can support the design and management of cooperative scientific experiments executed with a strong information and communication technologies (ICT) support and in a distributed manner, hence named e-experiments. The approach assumes the Web, Web services and the grid as the enacting paradigm for formalizing e-experiments as cooperative services on various computational nodes of a network. A framework is proposed that defines the responsibility of actors of the e-experiment and of the e-nodes in offering services, as well as the portal architecture through which the e-experiment resources can be accessed. By discussing a case study in the field of bioinformatics, the article shows how an e-experiment can be planned and executed starting from a set of Web services inserted in a portal and invoked upon the possibly underlying grid structure.

Progress in the field of information and communication technologies has created unprecedented opportunities to deliver services in both developing and developed countries. E-services sector is one of the fastest growing areas of the economy. Supply of electronic services contributes to creating value by reducing the number of barriers to entry. Also a growing use of the Internet and related opportunities in the area of public e-services can be observed. This paper focuses on the use of Geographic Information Systems in the implementation of e-government services on the example of Częstochowa. The paper presents technical and functional assumptions and experience with implementation of the project "E-services for residents of Czestochowa".

This paper presents a reflection on the ideal requirements that a provider should offer to the consumer. Traditionally, studies are made to improve products and/or services, but the consumer's point of view is disesteemed. This work approaches the commerce scenario from an approach where the consumer is the protagonist. The context of analysis is electronic commerce (e-commerce), however, the approaches can be extended to traditional commerce. It should be noted that commerce can be classified as traditional or electronic. In the specific area of ecommerce, it is known that the relevant defining characteristic is the use of information and communication technologies (ICT). Due to the above, the consumer has some particularities that are considered to present the approach. It is about identifying the elements for ecommerce improvement. Improving the sale-purchase cycle that includes improving marketing, improving consumer service, improving the product and/or service offered, and the improvement of the WEB portal.

The Internet of Things (IoT) has already penetrated an ever-increasing array of daily aspects of life. IoTs bridge the analog and digital worlds in an unprecedented manner and degree by providing in situ sensing. Adding to the IoT the capability to collect interrelated multi-modal sensing, the use of the Internet of Multimedia Things (IoMTs) has recently been exhibited to significantly enhance the role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in numerous applications, and most importantly in agrifood systems. In this work, we review key recent works in the conjunction of the three domains of IoMT, agrifood and precision agriculture and present open research directions.
