A Psychological Perspective on City Brand Positioning

Today the competition between cities is no longer a national game, but global, pitting emerging markets against traditional Western centers of economic power and decision makers have wholeheartedly embraced branding as a way to differentiate their cities in the competition for investments, talents and visitors. Hosting mega-events has become a popular branding strategy, which however requires significant contributions from the public purse. It is therefore necessary to develop analytical approaches, which can mitigate the risk of failure brought about by aspirational overreach. This chapter aims at articulating a starting point for formulating city brand positioning strategies based on studies of contemporary city ranking literature and two case studies concerning Shanghai and Istanbul. This chapter demonstrates how sensemaking data can be converted into quantitative measures and organized in a 16 dimensional construct enabling researchers to identify the most important perceptional dimensions of the city experience for the purpose of developing realistic city brand positioning.

Abstract. The following article describes the implementation of a methodology for the structural reconstruction of the Heroes monument and the statue on the north side of Simon Bolivar Ecuestre located between the intersection of the north highway and 80th Street in Bogota (Colombia) from the acquisition of SFM photogrammetry methods and images, using low-cost sensors for this process and making use of drones from the obtaining of frames of a video to for areas with lower altimetric reach, and thereby creating an analysis in their accuracy, sizing and quality within the framework of appropriation and documentation of the cultural assets in the public space of the city Bogotá taking this data as a starting point for future developments in the process of 3D reconstructions Colombia.

In the late 16th and early 17th centuries, the city government of Augsburg, Germany, struggled to maintain religious peace as the confessional boundaries between its Catholic and Protestant communities hardened. As tensions gradually rose, city officials feared and scrutinized the disruptive potential of the psalms and chorales sung by Augsburg's Protestant majority. Those suspected of owning, singing, or distributing inflammatory songs were subject to imprisonment, interrogation, torture, and exile. When an Imperial decree established a fully Catholic city government in March 1629, the authorities tightened this scrutiny, banning Protestant singing entirely in public and private and using a network of informants to catch violators. A remarkably well-preserved collection of criminal interrogation records in Augsburg dramatizes city officials' concern about religious song and their attempts to restrict its cultivation through coercive measures. These records, which preserve the testimony of suspects and witnesses as well as original evidence (such as manuscript or printed songs), show the ways in which local authorities tried to control singing that they felt threatened the public peace. At the same time, these sources give us unparalleled insight into the production, performance, and circulation of religious songs. Although the interrogations reveal much about how and where songs——often contrafacta of well-known psalms or chorales——were written and performed, the authorities were especially intent on finding out how they originated, who bought, sold, and sang them, and why. These exchanges between interrogators and suspects provide a starting point for an analysis of the relationship between singing, religion, and criminality in an early modern urban environment.

Globalization led to tough competition among cities around the world to win the competition toattract visitors and increase investment. Therefore, not only the company, the cities are also struggling tocreate uniqueness to gain an advantage in competition. It is very important to communicate the competitiveadvantages owned by these cities to the public and all parties to ensure the achievement of objectives. Citybranding is a method used to re-brand the city as identification which is expected to reflect the advantages aswell as its uniqueness. Therefore, in 2013 Shining Batu was introduced as a city brand wich expected to bereflect the competitive advantage of Batu City. The purpose of this study is to reveal aspects of the competitiveadvantages Batu City; strategies that are used in communicating it; as well as how big the impact of thecommunication strategy for the visitors Batu City. The paradigm of this research is qualitatively by case studydesign. Data were obtained by interview and documentation. The results showed that the Batu City has threeinterrelated aspects superior to one another that supports the creation of competitive advantages: geographicand agricultural sectors are packed in the development of the tourism sector. At the same time, the governmentdeveloped the program as a means of communicating Shining Batu and reflects the benefits of the city to thepublic. Shining Batu communicated through various forms of promotion that utilizes a wide variety ofcommunication tools; a variety of Tour Package; and held aa variety of routine and incidental events.Questionnaire showed that aim to dominate the number of respondents traveled, which consists of a visitor,where recreational tourist attractions types over a favorite choice than any natural attractions. Hotel is a topchoice for a place to stay. Most visitors make a visit to Batu City more than once.

<p>Objects, though the material stuff of curating, occupy a peripheral role in curatorial theory and practice. Art and museum curating both promote relational and ideological positions that centre on certain people, excluding less prominent participants and objects alike. Although all these groups have been examined at length for their discursive qualities, their active processes are still mostly unclear. Developments in material culture theory suggest the need for re-evaluation of the relationship between objects, curators, and audiences, based on these processes. This dissertation is an attempt to construct a concept of curating that begins with objects, the circumstances in which they take part, and the effects they have on the people around them. This investigation into the operations of people and things approaches the subject with an interdisciplinary eye, drawing upon art history, media studies, material culture studies, sociology, anthropology, and other fields. They are linked by a strongly qualitative methodology, which incorporates the researcher's own subjective experiences with a conceptual framework derived from Deleuze and Guattari and Bruno Latour. The use of a rhizomatic perspective based on movement, emergence, and opportunity opens up a series of alternative methodological and analytical approaches. With these tools, four creative works are examined and discussed as singular objects and guides to further generalisation. The research suggests a degree of complexity and potential within objects that is rarely considered. Peoples' interactions with objects mean they share in that potential, opening up the static and structured roles previously addressed. A series of curatorial practices are derived from these findings, expanding the definition of 'curator' by allowing for the exercise of distinct curatorial functions beyond the institution. This dissertation serves as a starting point for a democratic reconceptualisation of curating, based on processes rather than end points, involving the public as curatorial agents.</p>

The City of Pasadena adopted new metrics for measuring transportation impact in 2015 that promote sustainable transportation and urban form. This paper describes the process by which conventional impact measures were replaced with metrics for sustainability and describes experiences with implementation of the metrics, development of companion elements, and monitoring performance. The integrated approach to planning, development review, and system management in use in Pasadena provides both a model framework for other cities and highlights the issues that can be encountered when using metrics that are less familiar to the public and decision makers.

Kaposvár started to consciously build its brand in 2016 when the General Assembly accepted the city branding strategy of the settlement, its management has been trying to refine and clarify the positioning of the Kaposvár brand. Kapferer’s prism may make it feasible. This essay makes an attempt to estimate the applicability of brand identity prism on the city branding strategy of Kaposvár, thus exploring the opportunities in city brand positioning provided by Kapferer’s method. The paper examines the desirable image of Kaposvár detailed in the strategy from the six aspects of Kapferer’s prism, and tries to define the attributes which may strengthen the Kaposvár brand.

Better understanding mobility, being it from pedestrians or any other moving object, is practical and insightful. Practical due to its applications to the fundamentals of communication, with special attention to wireless communication. Insightful because it might pinpoint the pros and cons of how we are moving, or being moved, around. There are plenty of studies focused on mobility in mobile wireless networks, including the proposals of several synthetic mobility models. Getting real mobility traces is not an easy task, but there has been some efforts to provide traces to the public through repositories. Synthetic mobility models are usually analyzed through mobility metrics, which are designed to capture mobility subtleties. This work research on the applicability of some representative mobility metrics for real traces analysis. To achieve that goal, a case study is accomplished with a dataset of mobility traces of taxi cabs in the city of Rome/Italy. The results suggest that the mobility metrics under consideration are capable of capturing mobility properties which would otherwise require more sophisticated analytical approaches.

City has a character that reflects the inhabitants and idealism of leaders who try to shape the image of their city. Imagery or images would later describe a city as a whole in a certain picture that put the city in the scale fromthe smallest to global regions. The control upon its image is carried out with image management that appears in the front corridors of the city, as is done by the City of Bandung in building the image of the city as a positioning strategy for the part of the world's creative and design cities. The research method will use interdisciplinary research, involving anthropological approaches, material exploration, and fine art works. Public understanding, decision makers up to the capital are needed in supporting the development of the image of the city. The level of importance in understanding the work of art in the public space as one component that can help build the image of the city of Bandung. This research will produce work proposals that can help support the overall image of the city of Bandung that is integrated with the character and development of the city.
