Impact of Information Technologies, Corporate Entrepreneurship and Innovation on the Organizational Performance

Information Technology (IT) capabilities play a fundamental role on process innovation and organizational performance. Likewise, corporate entrepreneurship (CE) plays a vital role in the improvement of performance, as the employees' profile is determinant for the success of these organizations. Previous literature relating to IT and CE reveals how little attention has been paid to relationship between these constructs, and what exists is only partial. This research conceptualizes the relationship between IT capabilities, CE, and innovation on the organizational performance. It is intended as a contribution to the ongoing conceptual development of this area and provides initial guidance for future empirical evidence. Thus, the authors advance a synthesized conceptual model in order to evaluate the influence of IT capabilities (IT flexibility, IT integration and IT alignment) to the CE process, through innovation on the organizational performance. The authors create an initial construction of the scenery grounded in past literature, which is refined and reinforced into a conceptual model advancing in theoretical development in the field. Some future research and implications are discussed.

Aim/Purpose: Despite the fact that the plethora of studies demonstrate the positive impact of information technology (IT) capabilities on SMEs performance, the understanding of underlying mechanisms through which IT capabilities affect the firm performance is not yet clear. This study fills these gaps by explaining the roles of absorptive capacity and corporate entrepreneurship. The study also elaborates the effect of IT capability dimensions (IT integration and IT alignment) upon the SMEs performance outcomes through the mediating sequential process of absorptive capacity and corporate entrepreneurship. Methodology: This study empirically tests a theoretical model based on the Dynamic Capability View (DCV), by using the partial least square (PLS) technique with a sample of 489 manufacturing SMEs in Pakistan. A survey is employed for the data collection by following the cluster sampling approach. Contribution: This research contributes to the literature of IT by bifurcating the IT capability into two dimensions, IT integration and IT alignment, which allows us to distinguish between different sources of IT capabilities. Additionally, our findings shed the light on the dynamic capability view by theoretically and empirically demonstrating how absorptive capacity and corporate entrepreneurship sequentially affect the firms' performance outcomes. At last, this study contributes to the literature of SMEs by measuring the two levels of performance: innovation performance and firm performance. Findings: The results of the analysis show that the absorptive capacity and the corporate entrepreneurship significantly mediate the relationship between both dimensions of IT capability and performance outcomes.

PurposeWith the increasing digitalization processes taking place in different industries, the success of family small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) appears to be more under threat than for any other types of organizations, especially when information technologies (ITs) are not adequately used and managed. To grow and increase the chances of survival, family SMEs need more than ever IT. Stemming from agency theory, the aim of this article is to understand whether family harmony impacts the performance of family SMEs and to what extent IT mediates this relationship.Design/methodology/approachThe research follows a quantitative approach, based on a sample of 182 family SMEs. Structured equation modeling, through SmartPLS, was employed to validate the research model.FindingsThis study’s main findings suggest that family harmony positively impacts firm performance and that IT governance and strategy mediate positively this relationship.Research limitations/implicationsFirst, the relatively limited number of respondents limits the degree of representativeness of all family SMEs. Replicating the research with a larger number of respondents could strengthen the findings. Second, this study is limited to French firms and future research could extend the findings by looking at cross-country comparisons.Practical implicationsFamily SMEs are encouraged to link their IT governance with their IT strategy in order to increase their organizational performance. A favorable family harmony will make it easier to choose and implement a richer IT strategy and put in place an adequate IT governance function.Originality/valueThis research offers an enriched knowledge of the roles of family harmony and technological innovation in family SMEs and IT contexts as significant predictors of organizational performance. It contributes to family firm theory through the identification of three determinants of family SMEs' performance.

The aim of the present paper is to shed light on the concept of corporate entrepreneurship. The authors have attempted to highlight the different conceptualizations and explanations from renowned scholars in the domain of entrepreneurship pertaining to the corporate entrepreneurship and how it can result in worthy outcomes for businesses. Therein, the paper has reviewed and presented notable model explaining the predictors and consequences of corporate entrepreneurship. Specifically, the paper has attempted to work on linking corporate entrepreneurship with organizational performance. Through critical appraisal, the paper has also discussed the potential of organizational engagement in moderating this relationship. The paper forwards prepositions and conceptual model for scholars enthusiastic to study corporate entrepreneurship and its relationship with organizational performance following the buffering impact of organizational performance.

The study focuses on organisational performance based on the financial indicators including ROA, ROE, sales and similar elements. The research proposed that corporate governance practices could play a vital role in organisational performance. Therefore various practices of corporate governance were chosen and tested their impact. The study sample comprises of the respondents working in various Telecom Sector that includes: Mobilink, Telenor, Ufone, and Zong across Pakistan. A total of 320 useable responses were used. Data were collected through a questionnaire by sending through mail and online. A pilot testing was conducted to test the reliability ad validity for the instrument, with the pilot sample of 55 respondents. After testing the validity and reliability, further data were collected and tested the hypotheses devised thorough a study based on literature review. Employing correlational and regression tests, we analyzed the data. The results indicate that there was a positive and significant effect of corporate governance practices on organizational performance. Out of five hypotheses, three hypotheses were approved while two got rejected. The detail findings are shown in the analysis chapter. The study concludes with discussion, limitations and future research directions including implications both for theory and practitioners.

Corporate entrepreneurship has been of interest to academics, business leaders and government officials over the past four decades, particularly in terms of enhancing organizational performance. Although the understanding of corporate entrepreneurship continues to develop, the research usually focuses on private sector business activity. The research to date has not provided a consensus on the nature of public sector corporate entrepreneurship. Even though in recent years the topic has appeared in the public administration literature with increasing frequency, public sector corporate entrepreneurship remains poorly defined and its interpretation fragmented. In this study, public sector corporate entrepreneurship is investigated by developing and testing an integrative model using data obtained from 134 public sector state and semi-state enterprises in Ireland. The results indicate public sector organizations can manage change through entrepreneurship when they adapt to a munificent environment and when the decision-making style and control system is aligned. Public sector organizations focusing on corporate entrepreneurship (renewal) are at least marginally positively associated with organizational performance (growth and development) a primary policy goal particularly in the current economic climate. The article concludes by discussing the implications for theory, practice and future research areas.

Intrapreneurship has drawn research attention over the past decades considering its crucial role in innovation, organizational performance, and employee career planning. Intrapreneurial research based on various concepts also emerges. In spite of the increasing concern in the field, contributions in the field are fragmented. Particularly, intrapreneurship research is still lacking an integrated framework based on which, enablers and important facilitating mechanisms can be identified to enhance intrapreneurship. To close the above research gap, the study develops a holistic intrapreneurial framework. Specifically, the study first examines intrapreneurship in relation to other prominent concepts (i.e., innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability). This study then identifies enablers of intrapreneurship at both individual and organizational level. Notably, extant research largely examines intrapreneurship either at the organizational or individual level, and concentrates in corporate entrepreneurship or individual intrapreneurial employees. Research providing a holistic perspective on enablers for intrapreneurship is rare. The study further integrates these intrapreneurial enablers with facilitating mechanisms and proposes a framework of intrapreneurship. The framework makes it possible to clearly identify pivotal antecedents to intrapreneurship based on various theoretical lenses and analytical levels applied. Finally, the study addresses a list of managerial and technological challenges arising from the above framework and suggests future research agenda.

Todays competitive workplace requires that employees think creatively and take personal responsibility for their work as if they owned the business. Such ideal and perceived ownership can lead to higher productivity and better job satisfaction levels in the workplace. The purpose of this research is to investigate the relationship between corporate entrepreneurship and organizational performance and overall job satisfaction. Using the responses of 450 employees who work in private companies in Thailand, the study found differences in corporate entrepreneurship and overall job satisfaction based on various demographic variables, namely education, occupation, and position. Regarding autonomy/work discretion, there are differences in autonomy/work discretion and demographic profile, which include gender, education level, salary, type of company, and type of business. Implications for practice and recommendations for future research are presented.

This study aims at learning about the Human Resource Management Practices and their effects on Corporate Entrepreneurship (CE). HRM is one of the most crucial departments of all firms as it brings creativity and novelty, in products and services in order to have a competitive edge over rest concerned firms in the market. By properly managing HR an organization can bring this uniqueness. When resources are invested to bring improvement in organizational performance in terms of development in existing products and processes or expansion in product-lines or introducing new idea into practice for economic gain, the process is called corporate entrepreneurship. HRM practices play a vital role in fostering CE. Here, in this study three HRM practices; Training and development (T&D), Reward and Compensation (R&C) and Recruitment and Selection (R&S) are discussed and their impact on corporate entrepreneurship is checked out. This study is based on data that was gathered through questionnaire survey around Industrial estate Hattar (Haipur), PAKISTAN. Results show that there is significant positive relationship between the prescribed human resource management practices and corporate entrepreneurship.

Purpose The main purpose of this paper is to construct a conceptual model that addresses one of the most urgent matters for contemporary organizations, which is how organizations are to learn and integrate sustainability in its’ working processes. The guiding research question reverberates around how organizational learning (OL) and corporate entrepreneurship (CE) can promote and facilitate sustainability practices in organizations. Design/methodology/approach This paper uses knowledge from OL and CE theories representing tools to think with for an exploration of how to actualize sustainability practices in organizations. Findings This paper construes and presents a four-phase multilevel conceptual model for the analysis and creation of sustainability practices using insights from OL and CE. OL contributes with vital parts for creating sustainability practices in organizations delineated by continuous feedback and feedforward loops on individual, group, organizational and societal levels. CE prompts essential process and concrete working elements accentuating the importance of acquiring sustainability in all phases of the change process. Research limitations/implications The outlined conceptual model is general and need to address the deeper complexities and context dependencies of sustainable practice in organizations in a more elaborate form. Thus, the proposed model calls for empirical scrutiny and further theoretical development. Originality/value Derived from two interrelated fields of research, this paper contributes with a novel model addressing how sustainability practices can be conceptualized and facilitated in organizations. By using OL theory in combination with CE studies, the proposed model seeks to capture key elements to guide new understandings of and transitions to sustainable practices in organizations.
