PurposeWith the increasing digitalization processes taking place in different industries, the success of family small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) appears to be more under threat than for any other types of organizations, especially when information technologies (ITs) are not adequately used and managed. To grow and increase the chances of survival, family SMEs need more than ever IT. Stemming from agency theory, the aim of this article is to understand whether family harmony impacts the performance of family SMEs and to what extent IT mediates this relationship.Design/methodology/approachThe research follows a quantitative approach, based on a sample of 182 family SMEs. Structured equation modeling, through SmartPLS, was employed to validate the research model.FindingsThis study’s main findings suggest that family harmony positively impacts firm performance and that IT governance and strategy mediate positively this relationship.Research limitations/implicationsFirst, the relatively limited number of respondents limits the degree of representativeness of all family SMEs. Replicating the research with a larger number of respondents could strengthen the findings. Second, this study is limited to French firms and future research could extend the findings by looking at cross-country comparisons.Practical implicationsFamily SMEs are encouraged to link their IT governance with their IT strategy in order to increase their organizational performance. A favorable family harmony will make it easier to choose and implement a richer IT strategy and put in place an adequate IT governance function.Originality/valueThis research offers an enriched knowledge of the roles of family harmony and technological innovation in family SMEs and IT contexts as significant predictors of organizational performance. It contributes to family firm theory through the identification of three determinants of family SMEs' performance.

PurposeThe key concern nowadays is smartphone addiction and user profiles. Following the risk and protective factors framework, the authors aim to characterize smartphone users according to two levels: (1) individual: referred to the use (i.e. boredom proneness, compulsive app downloading smartphone addiction) and (2) microsystem: referred to family and peers (i.e. family harmony and phubbing). Besides, the authors will derive useful managerial implications and strategies.Design/methodology/approachFirst, an extensive literature revision and in-depth interviews with experts were employed to identify the addiction-related variables at the individual and microsystem level. Second, information was collected from a sample of 275 Spanish smartphone users, and a K-means clustering algorithm was employed to classify smartphone users.FindingsThe proposed traffic lights schema identifies three users’ profiles (red, yellow and green) regarding their smartphone addiction and considering individual and microsystem critical variables.Originality/valueThis study proposes a practical and pioneer traffic lights schema to classify smartphone users and facilitate each cluster's strategies development.

Abstract This study aims to determine the interaction of family and social environment on the vandalism behavior of eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 14 Pontianak. This research method is quantitative with a research sample of 110 VIII students using purposive sampling. Data was taken using a questionnaire. The results showed that vandalism was low at 60.8%, family harmony was 44.7% and the school environment was categorized as very high at 34.4%. The results of the test show Fcount (31,328) > Ftable (3.08) and a significance of 0.00 < 0.05, meaning that family harmony and social environment have a significant effect on vandalism behavior. tcount of the decent family harmony variable -4.486 > ttable 1.982 with a significance of 0.00 <0.05, which means that there is a significant negative effect. tcount of the appropriate school social environment variable -2.547 > ttable 1.982 with a significance of 0.01 <0.05, which means that there is a significant negative effect. Regression equation Y'= 68.074+ (- 0.418) + (-0.313) + e. The determinant value of Adjusted R2 = 0.358, which means that the influence of family interaction and social environment on vandalism behavior is low, namely 35.8%. Keywords: Harmonious Family, School Social Environment, Vandalism.

This study is aimed at discussing the system and procession of indigenous Mohammed Moponika marriage in creating the value of family harmony in Gorontalo City based on At-Thufi’s perspective on maslahah. This study used in this research is the type of field research with descriptive method of phenomenological approach. The results of this study conclude that in the traditional procession of the Pohutu Moponika Marriage accommodates many aspects of benefit in an effort to give birth to a harmonious family. The value of benefit intended for the Pohutu Moponika tradition is to gain or gain benefits and reject harm in order to maintain goals syara‘. Although it is not regulated in the texts and does not seem to be in accordance with the provisions of the texts, the customary process of the Pohutu Moponika Marriage in Gorontalo does not aim to destroy religion. On the contrary, it is actually intended for the benefit of the bride and groom so that they can navigate a harmonious domestic life. Therefore, it is included in the maslahah category in accordance with the concept of al-Thufi. Basically, Allah Swt establishes the rules of command and prohibition that are essentially only intended for the good and benefit of humans.

IntroductionAir pollution through cooking on open fires or inefficient cookstoves using biomass fuels has been linked with impaired lung health and with over 4 million premature deaths per annum. However, use of cleaner cookstoves is often sporadic and there are indications that longer-term health benefits are not prioritised by users. There is also limited information about how recipients of cookstoves perceive the health benefits of clean cooking interventions. We therefore conducted a qualitative study alongside the Cooking and Pneumonia Study (CAPS).MethodsQualitative methods and the participatory methodology Photovoice were used in an in-depth examination of health perceptions and understandings of CAPS trial participants. Fifty participants in five CAPS intervention villages collected images about cooking. These were discussed in village-level focus groups and in interviews with 12 representative participants. Village community representatives were also interviewed. Four female and eight male CAPS fieldworkers took part in gender-specific focus groups and two female and two male fieldworkers were interviewed. A thematic content approach was used for data analysis.ResultsWe found a disconnect between locally situated perceptions of health and the biomedically focused trial model. This included the development of potentially harmful understandings such as that pneumonia was no longer a threat and potential confusion between the symptoms of pneumonia and malaria. Study participants perceived health and well-being benefits including: cookstoves saved bodily energy; quick cooking helped maintain family harmony.ConclusionA deeper understanding of narratives of health within CAPS showed how context-specific perceptions of the health benefits of cookstoves were developed. This highlighted the conflicting priorities of cookstove intervention researchers and participants, and unintended and potentially harmful health understandings. The study also emphasises the importance of including qualitative explorations in similar complex interventions where potential pathways to beneficial (and harmful) effects, cannot be completely explicated through biomedical models alone.

In the Marxist theoretical system, "family" is a very important theoretical category, which is not only the "mystery" Marx and Engels has been trying to solve, but also an important reflection of Marxist philosophy. Marx and Engels held the conviction that the development of the family went through the consanguinity family, the Punaluian family, the paring family and the monogamous family. Marital relationship is the basis of forming a family; blood relationship is the bond of forming a family; family is the organizational form of human social life. Those are the essential characteristics of family. In the new era, while promoting the harmonious development of family, we must know the harmonious marriage relationship is the foundation of family harmony, and that the harmonious parent-child relationship is the key to family harmony. Meanwhile, we should pay attention to the harmonious unity of family and society.

Purpose: To investigate the dynamics of family harmony involving children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Methodology: Research was conducted using an instrumental case study on 20 participants (10 couples). Data were analyzed in two stages: quantitative content analysis and qualitative thematic analysis. Result: Results indicate the strengthening dynamics of family harmony involving children with ASD. Specifically, parents increasingly develop closeness as they focus on parenting. The commitment between husband and wife is also strengthened as they develop supportive communication patterns and search for various solutions to overcome conflicts and crises in the family. In dealing with conflicts, for example, the role of each family member is clearly delineated, and discussion among family members is encouraged. Other factors that affect family harmony include family acceptance of child’s condition, extended moral and material support by the family, the process and progress of child care, length of marriage, length of care for children, family income, and level of education of parents. Differences exist between the determinants of family harmony in families with children with ASD and those of a general family. Applications/Originality/Value: The condition of children with ASD might strengthen family harmony. Family harmony is an important concept, but the research on the dynamics of family harmony involving children with ASD is limited.
