Technology and particularly Cloud technology can definitely prove to be a powerful tool in linking the physical to the virtual world by allowing an escape and freedom from the two-dimensional world of paper-based teaching and learning. Balance is therefore achieved while educators and students access and create digital information on top of the physical world. Technology is everybody's favorite thus educators should definitely consider integrating them in their teaching in order to increase motivation. In the era of technology, access to on-line information is at the end of learners' and educators' fingertips. Simple but appealing electronic tools like mind maps, blogs, online quizzes or games, QR codes, digital educational platforms and infographics can boost inspiration, promote collaborative learning and make engagement more effective. This chapter will provide a theoretical background and showcase projects that exemplify the aspects highlighted here, each one from a different perspective.

The advance of Internet towards Web 2.0 conveys the potential it has in a wide range of scopes. The ongoing progress of the Web technology and its availability in teaching and learning, as well as a students’ profile increasingly more used to managing an important amount of digital information, offers lecturers the opportunity and challenge of putting at students’ disposal didactic tools making use of the Internet. Programming is one of the essential areas taught in university studies of Computer Science and other engineering degrees. At present, it is a knowledge acquired through tutorial classes and the practice with different tools for programming. This paper shows the acquired experience in the development and use of a simple compiler accessible through a Web page. In addition it presents a teaching proposal for its use in subjects that include programming languages lessons. OLC - On-Line Compiler - is an application which greatly lightens the student’s workload at the initial stage of programming. During this initial period they will neither have to deal with the complexities of the installation and the configuration of these types of tools, nor with the understanding of multiple options which they present. Therefore students can concentrate on the comprehension of the programming structures and the programming language to be studied.

The article proposes a novel annotating method of sufficient capacity and intended not only on-line but for off-line using for information preservation all advantages of two-dimensional barcodes. The semantic annotations are embedded directly into the reasonably chosen area of the image and bound by spatial identifiers with corresponding regions. The embedding method deals with the different quality requirements of the regions. Two-dimensional QR codes are used as the physical carrier of the annotation, providing the industrial grade for information detection, resilience and error correction capabilities. The annotation is distributed in a series of QR codes for efficient use of the available space. The results reveal that the spatial domain based technique is faster and has higher data embedding capacity than JPEG 2000 based. The amount of embedded information preserving the acceptable image quality in both proposed embedding cases is higher the average length of the presented original descriptions.

Quantitative recording of electron patterns and their rapid conversion into digital information is an outstanding goal which the photoplate fails to solve satisfactorily. For a long time, LLL-TV cameras have been used for EM adjustment but due to their inferior pixel number they were never a real alternative to the photoplate. This situation has changed with the availability of scientific grade slow-scan charged coupled devices (CCD) with pixel numbers exceeding 106, photometric accuracy and, by Peltier cooling, both excellent storage and noise figures previously inaccessible in image detection technology. Again the electron image is converted into a photon image fed to the CCD by some light optical transfer link. Subsequently, some technical solutions are discussed using the detection quantum efficiency (DQE), resolution, pixel number and exposure range as figures of merit.A key quantity is the number of electron-hole pairs released in the CCD sensor by a single primary electron (PE) which can be estimated from the energy deposit ΔE in the scintillator,

This research is aimed at investigating the readiness of History subject teachers in teaching and learning with the help of i-Think mind maps at secondary schools in the district of Setiu, Terengganu. The amount of sample chosen is 59 History teachers from secondary schools which consists of trained teachers without taking into account their specialisation. As a whole, the research findings show that respondents have a high readiness level in implementing their teaching and learning process with the help of i-Think mind maps in secondary schools. The findings also show that there is a difference in teacher readiness between history teacher and non-history teacher and between those that went to courses and those who did not. Furthermore, there is a difference in the attitude, skill and usage level of i-Think mind maps in teachers that are experienced and those less experienced. However, research findings for experienced and less-experienced teachers showed that there are no significant differences in the level of knowledge on the concept of i-Think mind maps.

TELD stands for “Teaching by Examples and Learning by Doing.” It is an on-line courseware engine over the World Wide Web. There are four folds of meanings in TELD. First, TELD represents a teaching and learning method that unifies a number of contemporary methods such as Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in medical education, Project-Based Learning (PBL) in engineering education, and Case Method (CM) in business education. Second, TELD serves as a Web server for hosting teaching and learning materials especially based on the TELD method. A variety of on-line facilities are provided for editing and uploading course materials such as syllabus, schedule, curriculum, examples of case study, exercises of mini-project, formative and summative assessments, etc. Third, TELD is a courseware search engine where educators are able to register their course materials and search for materials suitable for a particular course. In contrast with general-purpose search engines, TELD is set up for the special purpose of education. Therefore, the time and efforts spent on surfing are expected to be reduced dramatically. Finally, TELD is an on-line virtual classroom for electronic delivery of electronic curriculum materials. In addition to providing the lecture notes, TELD not only provides discussion questions for conducting in-class discussions and homework as formative assessment but also provides facilities for students to plan and submit their group work. This article presents an overview of the TELD courseware engine together with its background and underlying philosophy.
