Experiencing trauma will impact a child's development, specifically physically, psychologically (mentally), and emotionally. There is much research on how trauma affects child development, and more information is being addressed on interventions to ameliorate the impact of the symptoms of trauma children experience. Schools play an important role in working with traumatized children and their families. It is through effective collaboration, communication, cognitive behavior interventions, mindfulness techniques to teach self-awareness, social awareness, self-management, responsible decision making, and relationship skills where schools and families may best support the child's growth and development.

Abstract: All children experience the process of growth and development in life. In order to reach optimal development, the child needs to get the appropriate stimulation provided with the right method. At the age of 0 to 7 years, children learn to use limbs so that the most appropriate stimulation for children aged 0 to 7 years is to use limbs as a medium of learning. This is in line with the techniques performed on sensory integration programs. But unfortunately not many parents know this. This issue often creates problems in child development. The purpose of this community service is to raise the awareness of parents to conduct teaching and learning process in ways appropriate to the age and stages of development owned by children so that children can be optimally developed. This activity is done by making activity planning, determining the location of activities and doing psychoeducation program on the parents of children at Darul Syifa Wal Aitam Foundation that located at Kranji, Bekasi. This activity is an attempt to improve parental knowledge about the importance of sensory integration and the impact it gains when the child's sensory is not well integrated. The benefit of this community service is the increased knowledge of parents about the use of sensory integration methods so that it can be used to optimize the growth of their children.

The study is concerned with the emotional intelligence in the surveyed organizations and its impact on them as well as on its employees. The researcher collected data and information from primary and secondary sources through preparing a questionnaire and determining its four axes: self-awareness, self-control, emotional balance and adopting the democratic style at work and distributing it to managers and their assistants in the banks mentioned in the study population. The study reached to the following results:1. The study found that there is a relationship between self-awareness (self-realization) and the effectiveness of leadership in decision-making, where leaders exceed all their problems in the past, be able to determine the feelings of others toward them, show enthusiasm in dealing with employees, enjoy making friends with them, and deal objectively with all the issues in the organization.2. The study found that there is a relationship between self-control and the effectiveness of leadership in decision-making, where leaders are open to employees in a codified method to keep calm, feel scared of talking in meetings, do not feel a sense of anger at criticizing any of the employees, involve their emotions and feelings when discussing with any employee, show their anger during discussing with any employee, make others feel they are liked during discussion and finally listen well and not interrupting others.3 - The study found that there is a relationship between the emotional balance and the effectiveness of leadership in decision-making, where leaders held themselves accountable after each discussion, sit in quiet and contemplative sessions after work, are able to solve problems quietly, and are characterized with flexibility in dealing with their problems.4. The study found that there is a relationship between adopting the democratic style and the effectiveness of leadership in decision-making, where leaders do not allow others to participate in the traditional decisions, consult some employees when making decisions, involve employees in taking vital decisions, collect data and information before making decisions, delegate some employees with decision making, hold employees responsible for the wrong decision, and employ emotions when trying to convince others with a certain decision. The study recommended that there should be programs to develop the leadership ability to strengthen the sense of the self-awareness of managers and other employees in the field of decision-making. Furthermore, Leaders should exceed all their previous events that may adversely affect the work of the organization not allowing them to affect them negatively when making decisions or dealing with employees. The study also calls for leaders and managers to control themselves while dealing with employees and not allowing anger at work to control them leading to hasty decisions resulting from the impact of anger or instability. They also should choose the proper and convenient time to study the alternatives and select the appropriate alternative to achieve the goals and objectives of both the organization and employees far from all the negative attractions. The study called for employees in management and decision-making in the surveyed organizations to hold quiet sessions after work to review their work and relationships arising from working with employees; self-accountability is one of the best means that verifies and activates the emotional intelligence among employees in the organization, especially the decisions issued and the problems they face as well as their review for the proposed solutions. The study recommended organizations to prepare training programs to develop the emotional intelligence of all employees either managers or subordinates of the surveyed organizations and make the emotional intelligence a part of the culture of the organization to reach to its dimensions so as managers can be role models for other employees. It also recommended to adopt the democratic style in management to remove the physical and moral barriers between managers and other employees, involve employees in decision-making and achieve their needs and desires and finally increase the social gatherings among all employees outside work, such as holding concerts, seminars and trips so as employees can get closer to each other in an environment of love and contentment. The study also calls for researchers to pay greater attention to the emotional intelligence due to its significant role in raising the morale of employees and achieve satisfaction and goals of the organization.

The aim of this study was to analyze students' social and emotional competencies through the integration of Think Pair Share (TPS) and a Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) approach to topics related to Acids and Bases. Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.. The study involved thirty-five 11th grade students in one of private school in Jakarta and was conducted between January and April, 2017. A qualitative methodology was employed to analyze students’ social and emotional competencies using interviews, classroom observations, reflective journals, and student worksheets. The application of a SEL approach was carried out by integrating it with a TPS strategy. In the Think stage students were given the opportunity to explore their understanding of acids and bases and to solve problems individually. In the Pair stage they could communicate their insights to the group, and in the Share stage they had occasion to present their group perspectives and respond to others. The five social and emotional competences found in this study were; self awareness, self management, social awareness, relationship management, and responsible decision making. Self awareness was demonstrated by understanding a student’s abilities, their needs, and their self- confidence. Self management was indicated by a student’s ability to manage pressure, plan strategies, and seek help. Social awareness competencies were analyzed through the development of students' attitudes to diversity and how they demonstrated care for friends. Relationship management competencies were identified by observing a student’s ability to manage friendships, how they overcame differences, and whether they provided assistance to each other. The responsible decision making competency was determined by observing how students made decisions when trying to solve a problem and whether they were able to plan a strategy when facing pressure. Whilst integrating SEL the researchers were challenged by the need to empower students, encourage teachers to stimulate students’ social and emotional competencies, and to manage time constraints. Integrating SEL into chemistry learning provided opportunities for students to develop their social and emotional competencies through independent thinking activities, group discussions, and presentations to their peers.

It is with sadness that I substitute for Dr. Debuskey today in presenting Dr. Harry Gordon-whom we both admire so much-with the C. Anderson Aldrich Award in Child Development. We both have felt the impact of Dr. Gordon's teaching and attitudes about children (and, in turn, are indebted to Dr. C. Anderson Aldrich, whom we honor today). I wish to read to you the biographical sketch which Dr. Debuskey prepared for this occasion. In a letter to Mr. Sehring regarding this sketch, Dr. Debuskey wrote, "I have deep affection for Dr. Gordon and find it difficult to restrict my comments to the cold facts." I, too, have this difficulty and feel a kinship with his comments, which follow. "Dr. Harry H. Gordon is truly a man of great versatility. He has engaged, with vigor and enthusiasm and uncommon effectiveness, in many areas of compelling interest, among which, of course, eminently resides child development. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, on August 4, 1906, in a family traditionally devoted to scholarship, service, and concern for others. He is a choicescion of that heritage. He was educated at Cornell University and received his basic pediatric training at Montefiore, New Haven, and the New York hospitals. He encountered and was deeply influenced by several of our distinguished professional pioneers. "Dr. Gordon, early in his career, engaged in fundamental research on the nutritional developmental needs of premature and neonatal infants. This beautifully designed project, recorded in an exciting series of articles, created the scientific foundation for understanding the growth and development of a child in this critical, initial stage in his life.
