Presenting Large and Complex Information Sets on Mobile Handhelds

The opportunity to access information at any time and any place caused a boom in the development of small mobile devices in recent years. Due to their application, these handhelds become smaller and handier, which leads to new challenges in human-computer interaction. Due to limited resources of these devices new paradigms for information presentation and interaction facilities are needed. We take this into account by applying concepts for interaction and display of information from the field of information visualization to mobile pocket-sized devices. We focus on concrete problems caused by presenting huge images and large hierarchies in such environments. Moreover, we introduce an effective technique for browsing the World Wide Web via mobile handhelds. The presented techniques offer an improved support in navigation, orientation and interaction that enables the user to browse, interpret and handle presented information much more easily.

The explosion of information in the World Wide Web is overwhelming for readers with limitless information. Large internet articles or journals are often cumbersome to read as well as comprehend. More often than not, readers are immersed in a pool of information with limited time to assimilate all of the articles. As technology advances, it becomes more convenient to access information on-the-go, i.e., portability of information by utilizing mobile devices. In this research, a semantic and syntatic based summarization is implemented in a text summarizer to solve the information overload problem whilst providing a more coherent summary. The objective is to integrate WordNet into the proposed system aka TextSumIt which condenses lengthy documents into summarized text. The empirical experiments show that it produces satisfactory preliminary results on Android mobile phones.

Computer technology is constantly improving the means of people with a disability to access information. From the earliest electronic bulletin board systems, to listserv software on mainframe networks, to gophers, and now world wide web software, access to a vast amount of disability-related information is becoming much easier and affordable. A brief overview of these developments and several resources for disability-related information are presented in this review.

Accessing the Web from mobile devices is a popular practice. Trends show that the mobile space is becoming the method through which many consumers access content – both through native and web applications. These applications have expanded the browsing experience, but have also complicated the development process. A need exists for a simple, uniform solution which HTML5 is attempting to address. HTML is a mark-up language, now on its fifth edition, used for structuring and presenting content on the World Wide Web. Because of the large increase in users of mobile devices, internet access on these devices is widely used. The creation of web sites, web documents, and applications are done with HTML5, as it is compatible with both PC and mobile device browsers. However, with its lengthy development process, it is not yet apparent if HTML5 can incorporate the demands of developers in a changing environment. This paper provides an overview of the use of HTML5 in structuring and presenting content on the World Wide Web and compatibility issues on mobile browsers, key features, tool’s, and the advantages and disadvantages on the mobile web devices as well as the state of the mobile web.

The development and growth of the Internet has revolutionized not only the way we access information, but the way we present it as well. Prior to the advent of the World Wide Web, most learning presentations were audio, textual, or video publications that were viewed linearly, or planned learning activities that were presented in a linear fashion. The learner may have listened to a lecture, completed a sequence of activities, read a chapter in a textbook, followed along on a tour, or watched a film or video to gain the information needed to learn a new concept – and opportunities to adjust the presentation sequence were limited. Linear presentations (lectures, expositions, demonstrations, activity sequences, etc.) can be seen as efficient from the perspective of the instructor and the institution. They aim to maximize the overall learning effects for a target audience by identifying the state of understanding and needs of the average learner, and then creating and reusing a fixed presentation to meet those typical needs. These presentations are often well polished and can be effective for large portions of their target audiences.

The development of the world wide web and of Education 2.0. to Education 3.0. and Education 4.0. pose new challenges to the inclusive paradigm of higher education (HE) A study was conducted with the method of content analysis for the processes of inclusion in HE in the conditions of the new challenges. The applied research method is – quantitative content analysis of language categories – words and expressions that have a specific coding in the field of inclusive higher education and are located in the World wide web. Language categories are selected as census units according to the indicators time and frequency of occurrence in the world wide web. The quantitative content analysis method is applied with several groups of census units or conceptual schemes for inclusive higher education. The variations of the census units in the dynamics and correlation of the specified indicators manifest the interest shown in the problems of inclusive higher education by society, scientific analysis and scientific terms of the inclusive higher education, and the application of the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence for realization of the process of inclusive education. Specific emphasis is placed on the development of inclusive higher education from Education 2.0 to Education 4.0. The results demonstrate a change in HE to inclusive processes through personalized and self-determined training of students with different abilities and different potential in inclusive HE 3.0 and initial development of inclusive HE 4.0.

The changing nature of chemical information literacy over 50 years is examined by a comparison of a number of guides to chemical literature and information. It is concluded that: an understanding of the world of information is the sole aspect to have remained important and essentially unchanged over time; that knowledge of sources, ability to access information and ability to organize information have been of importance throughout, but have changed their nature dramatically; and that evaluation of information has gained in importance since the advent of the World Wide Web. The link between chemical structure and corresponding substance information is the most significant threshold concept. Information literacy in chemistry is strongly subject-specific.

The ubiquity of the World Wide Web facilitates the deployment of highly distributed applications. The emergence of Web databases and applications has introduced new challenges related to their organization, access, integration, and interoperability. We present a dynamic architecture and system for describing, locating, and accessing data from Web databases and applications. We describe a scalable middleware for efficient data and application access that we have built using the available technologies. The resulting system is called WebFINDIT. It is a scalable and uniform infrastructure for accessing heterogeneous and autonomous databases and applications.

I discuss the burgeoning World Wide Web and how it can be used to aid astronomy teaching.I supply a list of a variety of useful Web sites.The World Wide Web was invented 5 years ago at CERN, which is now translated as the European Laboratory for Particle Physics, as a way of aiding access to information from remote sites. The invention of graphic interfaces, notably Mosaic by a group at the National Supercomputer Center in Illinois and then Netscape Navigator as a private development by many of the original Mosaic people, led to an explosion in use of the Web. Millions of people around the world are now able to access information from over 100,000 Web sites.There is much astronomical information on the Web, though that information make up only a small fraction of all the information available through this medium.
