Background: People with chronic illness are particularly dependent on adequate health literacy (HL), but often report difficulties in accessing, understanding, appraising, and applying health information. To strengthen the HL of people with chronic illness, in-depth knowledge about how they deal with health information is crucial. Methods: To this end, quantitative data from the Second Health Literacy Survey Germany (HLS-GER 2) and qualitative data from seven focus group discussions were used to examine the interest in health information, preferred sources of information as well as experiences and challenges with information management among people with chronic illness. Results: The results show that people with chronic illness have a great interest in health information and use very different sources of health information, preferring personal information from physicians most. The results also point to several challenges in health information management that seem to be influenced by the illness duration as well as by the experiences made with the respective sources. Conclusions: Overall, the study provides important starting points for intervention development for the provision and communication of health-related information, but also to research on health information behavior and HL.

This three-stage national longitudinal survey of 300 respondents evaluated the impact on levels of nutrition knowledge of a specially designed television programme. These levels were assessed among subgroups using different sources of health information. The study was fielded before programme viewing, within three days of programme viewing and about six months after programme viewing. Up to five sources per respondent were obtained. Health information sources analysed included magazines, television, newspapers and doctor/clinic/hospital. Results showed that knowledge levels consistently increased among all groups after programme viewing and also across time ( p<0.001). In general, media users showed higher levels of knowledge than their non-user counterparts; however, only magazine users showed higher and significant differences in knowledge. Programme viewing led to an increased selection of television and newspapers as sources of health information. Magazine use and the use of doctors as health information sources remained the same after programme viewing.

This paper reports on a health literacy study that explored adolescents’ conceptualizations of health information appraisal as a social practice in Latvia. The study was guided by phenomenography, a qualitative research approach used to describe people’s conceptions of a particular phenomenon. A purposive, maximum variation sampling was used, and 24 adolescents were recruited to take part in the study, ranging from 13 to 16 year-olds. Semi-structured interviews were undertaken for data collection. A phenomenographic method for data analysis was performed using the guidelines proved by Sandberg. The data analysis presented seven categories of description and an outcome space representing the adolescents’ qualitatively different conceptions of health information appraisal. The implications for health education in school are discussed.

The highest cumulative proportion of HIV / AIDS cases is at the age of 20-29 years (32.5%), 30-39 years (30.7%), 40-49 years (12.9%), 50-59 years (4.7 %), and finally 15-19 years of age (3.2%). This data indicates that adolescents 15-29 years are a vulnerable population and need to be targeted in the HIV AIDS prevention program in Indonesia and provide an illustration that adolescents need correct health information so as not to be infected by HIV. This study aims to improve adolescent knowledge through health education using video media. This research is a quasi-experimental research (quasi-experiment) that is providing health education about HIV / AIDS using video media. The videos used in this study are conventional HIV / AIDS videos and Jambi HIV / AIDS video dialogue. Data analysis uses bivariate analysis of T test for unpaired groups. The results showed that the average knowledge of students about HIV / AIDS after being given health education using Conventional Video media in SMA Negeri 8 Murao Jambi Regency in 2018 was 64.24. While the average knowledge of students about HIV / AIDS after being given health education using the Jambi Language Dialogic Video media in SMA Negeri 8 Muaro Jambi in 2018 was 76.44. There is a significant difference between respondents' knowledge given health education using conventional video media and using the Jambi Language Dialogic video media (p-values 0.00 and α 0.05). This means that the use of the Jambi Language Dialogic Video media is more effective than the Conventional Video media in providing information about HIV / AIDS to students of SMA Negeri 8 Muaro Jambi Regency in 2018.

Abstract Purpose of the article There is relatively a big number of brands in the market of laptops nowadays in Albania. It appears that the number of brands offered in this market could easily be compared to the number of brands in Europe and even broader. The purpose of this study is to help Albanian vendors understand the criteria that consumers take into consideration when they make the decision to purchase a laptop. Methodology/methods The research is based on the collection and the analyses of the primary data collected through interviews to people like managers or employees who work in the sector of trading laptops or in businesses like education where laptops are broadly used recently; then a survey is done through a questionnaire delivered to customers who already own and use a laptop and customers who are potential buyers of laptops. Scientific aim The aim of the research is to identify if there are any relationships between the demographics of the consumers and the criteria of buying a laptop; on the other hand, to find out how is the relationship between the demographics and the features of different brands. Findings The study found out that Albanian consumers have good knowledge of laptops and their brands, and they use different sources of information for making their decisions in buying a laptop; it is found that there are relationships between some demographics like age or gender and the appraisal for some attributes of the laptops like price, design and high graphics card; it is also found that some technical features and other attributes of using laptops are some of the determinants that influence the laptops’ purchases. Conclusions It is realized that one of the most important demographics of the consumers is their age. Some core features like RAM, ROM, battery life, processor quality, light weight or attributes that are connected to the purposes of using the laptop computers like practicality and mobility in using them, work and studying processes, quick access to the internet are determinant factors which influence the decision making process of purchasing a laptop. I would recommend that future researches be focused also on the relationship between the customers’ income and their preferred brand or ranking brands according to the customers’ preferences. Such studies should also extend outside the city of Tirana.

BACKGROUND Serious public health problems, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, can cause an infodemic. Sources of information that may cause an infodemic include social networking services; YouTube, which consists of content created and uploaded by individuals, is one such source. OBJECTIVE To survey the content and changes in YouTube videos that present public health information about COVID-19 in Japan. METHODS We surveyed YouTube content regarding public health information pertaining to COVID-19 in Japan. YouTube searches were performed on March 6, 2020 (before the state of emergency), April 14 (during the state of emergency), and May 27 (after the state of emergency was lifted), with 136, 113, and 140 sample videos evaluated, respectively. The main outcome measures were: (1) The total number of views for each video, (2) video content, and (3) the usefulness of the video. RESULTS In the 100 most viewed YouTube videos during the three periods, the number of videos on public health information in March was significantly higher than in May (p = .02). Of the 331 unique videos, 9.1% (n = 30) were released by healthcare professionals. Useful videos providing public health information about the prevention of the spread of infection comprised only 13.0% of the sample but were viewed significantly more often than not useful videos (p = .006). CONCLUSIONS Individuals need to take care when obtaining information from YouTube before or early in a pandemic, during which time scientific evidence is scarce.
