Sentiment analysis denotes the analysis of emotions and opinions from text. The authors also refer to sentiment analysis as opinion mining. It finds and justifies the sentiment of the person with respect to a given source of content. Social media contain vast amounts of the sentiment data in the form of product reviews, tweets, blogs, and updates on the statuses, posts, etc. Sentiment analysis of this largely generated data is very useful to express the opinion of the mass in terms of product reviews. This work is proposing a highly accurate model of sentiment analysis for reviews of products, movies, and restaurants from Amazon, IMDB, and Yelp, respectively. With the help of classifiers such as logistic regression, support vector machine, and decision tree, the authors can classify these reviews as positive or negative with higher accuracy values.

E-commerce is a website or mobile application platform that help people to buy products. Before purchasing the product, customer will decide to buy it or not by reading the review from previous buyer. There is a problem that there are a lot of review so it will take a long time for customer to read it all. This research will be using sentiment analysis method to classify the review data. Sentiment analysis or opinion mining is a machine learning approach to classify and analyse texts or documents about human’s sentiments, emotions, and opinions. In this research, sentiment analysis was used to classify product reviews from e-commerce websites into positive or negative classes. The results could be processed further and be used to summarize customers' opinions about a certain product without reading every single review. The goal of this research is to optimize classification performance by using feature selection technique. Terms Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency (TF-IDF) feature extraction, Backward Elimination feature selection, and five different classifiers (Naïve Bayes, Support Vector Machine, K-Nearest Neighbour, Decision Tree, Random Forest) were used in analysing the sentiment of the reviews. In this research, the dataset used are Indonesian language and classified into two classes(positive and negative). The best accuracy is achieved by using TF-IDF, Backward Elimination and Support Vector Machine (SVM) with a score of 85.97%, which increases by 7.91% if compared to the process without feature selection. Based on the results, Backward Elimination feature selection succeeded in improving all performance for all classifiers used in this research.


Opinion Mining (OM) is also called as Sentiment Analysis (SA). Aspect Based Opinion Mining (ABOM) is also called as Aspect Based Sentiment Analysis (ABSA). In this paper, three new features are proposed to extract the aspect term for Aspect Based Sentiment Analysis (ABSA). The influence of the proposed features is evaluated on five classifiers namely Decision Tree (DT), Naive Bayes (NB), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Conditional Random Fields (CRF). The proposed features are evaluated on the Two datasets on Restaurant and Laptop domains available in International Workshop on Semantic Evaluation 2014 i.e. SemEval 2014. The influence of proposed features is evaluated using Precision, Recall and F1 measures. The proposed features are highly influencing for aspect term extraction on classifiers. The performance of SVM and CRF classifiers with proposed features is more influencing for aspect term extraction compared with NB, DT and KNN classifiers.

Social media writing content growing make a lot of new words that appear on Twitter in the form of words and abbreviations that appear so that sentiment analysis is increasingly difficult to get high accuracy of textual data on Twitter social media. In this study, the authors conducted research on sentiment analysis of the pairs of candidates for President and Vice President of Indonesia in the 2019 Elections. To obtain higher accuracy results and accommodate the problem of textual data development on Twitter, the authors conducted a combination of methods to conduct the sentiment analysis with unsupervised and supervised methods. namely Lexicon Based. This study used Twitter data in October 2018 using the search keywords with the names of each pair of candidates for President and Vice President of the 2019 Elections totaling 800 datasets. From the study with 800 datasets the best accuracy was obtained with a value of 92.5% with 80% training data composition and 20% testing data with a Precision value in each class between 85.7% - 97.2% and Recall value for each class among 78, 2% - 93.5%. With the Lexicon Based method as a labeling dataset, the process of labeling the Support Vector Machine dataset is no longer done manually but is processed by the Lexicon Based method and the dictionary on the lexicon can be added along with the development of data content on Twitter social media.

Sentiment analysis of product reviews on e-commerce platforms aids in determining the preferences of customers. Aspect-based sentiment analysis (ABSA) assists in identifying the contributing aspects and their corresponding polarity, thereby allowing for a more detailed analysis of the customer’s inclination toward product aspects. This analysis helps in the transition from the traditional rating-based recommendation process to an improved aspect-based process. To automate ABSA, a labelled dataset is required to train a supervised machine learning model. As the availability of such dataset is limited due to the involvement of human efforts, an annotated dataset has been provided here for performing ABSA on customer reviews of mobile phones. The dataset comprising of product reviews of Apple-iPhone11 has been manually annotated with predefined aspect categories and aspect sentiments. The dataset’s accuracy has been validated using state-of-the-art machine learning techniques such as Naïve Bayes, Support Vector Machine, Logistic Regression, Random Forest, K-Nearest Neighbor and Multi Layer Perceptron, a sequential model built with Keras API. The MLP model built through Keras Sequential API for classifying review text into aspect categories produced the most accurate result with 67.45 percent accuracy. K- nearest neighbor performed the worst with only 49.92 percent accuracy. The Support Vector Machine had the highest accuracy for classifying review text into aspect sentiments with an accuracy of 79.46 percent. The model built with Keras API had the lowest 76.30 percent accuracy. The contribution is beneficial as a benchmark dataset for ABSA of mobile phone reviews.

Firms are turning their eye towards social media analytics to get to know what people are really talking about their firm or their product. With the huge amount of buzz being created online about anything and everything social media has become ‘the' platform of the day to understand what public on a whole are talking about a particular product and the process of converting all the talking into valuable information is called Sentiment Analysis. Sentiment Analysis is a process of identifying and categorizing a piece of text into positive or negative so as to understand the sentiment of the users. This chapter would take the reader through basic sentiment classifiers like building word clouds, commonality clouds, dendrograms and comparison clouds to advanced algorithms like K Nearest Neighbour, Naïve Biased Algorithm and Support Vector Machine.

Sentiment analysis is one of the recent areas of emerging research in the classification of sentiment polarity and text mining, particularly with the considerable number of opinions available on social media. The Algerian Operator Telephone Ooredoo, as other operators, deploys in its new strategy to conquer new customers, by exploiting their opinions through a sentiments analysis. The purpose of this work is to set up a system called “Ooredoo Rayek”, whose objective is to collect, transliterate, translate and classify the textual data expressed by the Ooredoo operator's customers. This article developed a set of rules allowing the transliteration from Algerian Arabizi to Algerian dialect. Furthermore, the authors used Naïve Bayes (NB) and (Support Vector Machine) SVM classifiers to assign polarity tags to Facebook comments from the official pages of Ooredoo written in multilingual and multi-dialect context. Experimental results show that the system obtains good performance with 83% of accuracy.

This paper aims to apply and compare the performance of the three machine learning algorithms–support vector machine (SVM), bayesian logistic regression (BLR), and alternating decision tree (ADTree)–to map landslide susceptibility along the mountainous road of the Salavat Abad saddle, Kurdistan province, Iran. We identified 66 shallow landslide locations, based on field surveys, by recording the locations of the landslides by a global position System (GPS), Google Earth imagery and black-and-white aerial photographs (scale 1: 20,000) and 19 landslide conditioning factors, then tested these factors using the information gain ratio (IGR) technique. We checked the validity of the models using statistical metrics, including sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, kappa, root mean square error (RMSE), and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). We found that, although all three machine learning algorithms yielded excellent performance, the SVM algorithm (AUC = 0.984) slightly outperformed the BLR (AUC = 0.980), and ADTree (AUC = 0.977) algorithms. We observed that not only all three algorithms are useful and effective tools for identifying shallow landslide-prone areas but also the BLR algorithm can be used such as the SVM algorithm as a soft computing benchmark algorithm to check the performance of the models in future.

Technology field following how era keep evolving. Social media already on everyone’s daily life and being a place for writing their opinion, either review or response for product and service that already being used. Twitter are one of popular social media on Indonesia, according to Statista data it reach 17.55 million users. For online business sector, knowing sentiment score are really important to stepping up their business. The use of machine learning, NLP (Natural Processing Language), and text mining for knowing the real meaning of opinion words given by customer called sentiment analysis. Two methods are using for data testing, the first is Lexicon Based and the second is Support Vector Machine (SVM). Data source that used for sentiment analyst are from keyword ‘ShopeeFood’ and ‘syopifud’. The result of analysis giving accuracy score 87%, precision score 81%, recall score 75%, and f1-score 78%.


The World Wide Web has boosted its content for the past years, it has a vast amount of multimedia resources that continuously grow specifically in documentary data. One of the major contributors of documentary contents can be evidently found on the social media called Facebook. People or netizens on Facebook are actively sharing their opinion about a certain topic or posts that can be related to them or not. With the huge amount of accessible documentary data that are seen on the so-called social media, there are research trends that can be made by the researchers in the field of opinion mining. A netizen’s comment on a particular post can either be a negative or a positive one. This study will discuss the opinion or comment of a netizen whether it is positive or negative or how she/he feels about a specific topic posted on Facebook; this is can be measured by the use of Sentiment Analysis. The combination of the Natural Language Processing and the analytics in textual form is also known as Sentiment Analysis that is use to the extraction of data in a useful manner. This study will be based on the product reviews of Filipinos in Filipino, English and Taglish (mixed Filipino and English) languages. To categorize a comment effectively, the Naïve Bayes Algorithm was implemented to the developed web system.
