Analyzing the Influential Factors of Older Worker's Job Training Participation

This study explores determinants of middle-aged workers' participation in job training and provides implications to vitalizing middle-aged workers' participation in job training, using logistic regression analysis of Korea Labor Institute (KLIPS) data. As a result, among individual characteristics of older workers, residence in the metropolitan area, family relationship satisfaction, and household status have a significant effect on participation in job training. Regarding job and individual work characteristics, current work experience has a positive relationship. While for corporate characteristics, presence of unions and availability of statutory severance pay have a significant effect on participation in job training. Consequently, this study provides implications for vitalizing the older workers' participation in job training.

In recent years, more and more young people from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan have come to universities in Chinese Mainland for higher education. However, due to the differences in political, economic and cultural environment between Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions and Chinese Mainland, these young people have encountered psychological problems such as examination anxiety, interpersonal loneliness and lack of sense of meaning in life due to the related learning and life difficulties in Chinese mainland universities, which affect their growth and success. Many of the students originally thought that smoking was used in a more secluded environment to relieve stress, psychological counseling and energy recovery, but in fact smoking brings more harm. In the creation of a smoke-free campus, a variety of measures are adopted to give full play to the positive emotions of students to promote their mental health, which will help to achieve the creation of a smoke-free campus and share a healthy life on the campus. Based on the survey of a total of 658 undergraduates from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan in H University on their positive affect and mental health, the following conclusions are drawn through data analysis: undergraduates from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan in Chinese Mainland have positive affect at the upper-middle level, negative affect and overall affect at the lower-middle level; some undergraduates from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan in Chinese mainland universities have middle-level mental health status and significant differences in grade and family relationship satisfaction; family relationship satisfaction has an important impact on students' emotional and mental health; the negative emotional performance and mental health of senior students, science students and students with low family relationship satisfaction need more attention from educators. Correlation analysis shows that positive affect is positively correlated with health concerns, energy status, satisfaction and interest in life, mood status, control of emotions and behaviors, relaxation and tension, and total score of mental health (P < 0.01). Regression analysis shows that positive affect has significant positive predictive effects on six factors in mental health, such as "health concerns", "satisfaction and interest in life", "energy", "mental state", "control of emotions and behaviors", "relaxation and tension" and mental health. The enlightenment of this study lies in the suggestions that actions should be taken from the two levels of school education and home-school combination to strengthen the cultivation of positive affect of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan undergraduates in Chinese mainland universities, so as to improve their mental health level.

Purpose The purpose of the research is to conceptually define and empirically investigate the density of work experience along with individual characteristics [cognitive ability, conscientiousness, openness to experience] and examine their influence on HR competencies. Design/methodology/approach 140 Human Resource [HR] professionals and their supervisors from a service industry sector were surveyed. Conscientiousness and openness to experience were assessed using scales from a five factor inventory. Density of work experience was assessed using a profile with five distinct areas of challenge. Two measures of intelligence were used and averaged. Supervisors were asked to respond to competency items which covered business knowledge, functional expertise and change management. Findings The hypotheses were supported by the evidence in that 1. Cognitive ability had a direct positive relationship both with HR competencies and density of work experience 2. Openness to experience had a direct positive relationship both with HR competencies and density of work experience 3. Conscientiousness had a direct positive relationship with their density of work experience 4. There is a direct positive relationship between density of work experience and HR competencies Research limitations/implications The author notes the following limitations 1. Learning from each role [manager, team leader, individual contributor] was not assessed 2. The measure of density of work experience could be queried or supplemented 3. Any feedback that respondents might have received and any course corrections that may have been made were not considered Practical implications Organizations could consider increasing the density of work experience within the same role and this could have implications for progression to higher levels of pay. Employers could use an approach of gradually increasing the level of responsibility and involvement in challenging tasks of employees who are not of higher cognitive ability. Originality/value Prior to this study there had yet to be no convincing theory developed as to how individuals with specific characteristics acquire the specific competencies necessary for managerial effectiveness.

Physical activity is an important facilitator for health and wellbeing, especially for late middle-aged adults, who are more susceptible to cardiovascular diseases. Physical activity performed in green areas is supposed to be particularly beneficial, so we studied whether late middle- aged adults are more active in green areas than in non-green areas and how this is influenced by individual characteristics and the level of neighbourhood greenness. We tracked 180 late middle-aged (58 to 65 years) adults using global positioning system and accelerometer data to know whether and where they were sedentary or active. These data were combined with information on land use to obtain information on the greenness of sedentary and active hotspots. We found that late middle-aged adults are more physically active when spending more time in green areas than in non-green areas. Spending more time at home and in non-green areas was found to be associated with more sedentary behaviour. Time spent in non-green areas was found to be related to more moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) for males and to less MVPA for females. The positive association between time spent in green areas and MVPA was the strongest for highly educated people and for those living in a green neighbourhood. This study shows that the combined use of global positioning system and accelerometer data facilitates understanding of where people are sedentary or physically active, which can help policy makers encourage activity in this age cohort.

This study aims to determine the effect of individual characteristics and motivation on the performance of BUM Desa operational operators in Bantul Regency. This study uses a survey method that is data collected using a questionnaire. Populations in this study were operational operators of BUM Desa in Bantul Regency as many as 82 people, and the selected sample of 54 people. The sampling method uses a convenience sampling method. The collected data is then analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis methods. The results showed that the work experience and motivation affect the performance of BUM Desa, while gender, education and age did not affect the performance of BUM Desa. This shows that education and age do not guarantee a person's ability to carry out their duties and obligations. The results of this study are expected to be considered by the Village Government in preparing Human Resources to manage the BUM Desa. If BUM Desa is managed by the right Human Resources, has qualified capabilities and appropriate qualifications, then BUMDes can run according to the plans that have been made.


One hundred combatants’ families were surveyed in order to identify the features of psychosocial functioning of the demobilized combatants and their wives and to compare them with the satisfaction of the respondents’ marital relations, to determine the possible sources of maintaining the balances family interaction and objectives for further psycho-corrective work. It was found that despite that all the examined men had previous psychotraumatic experience, and most of them had psychic disorders of post-traumatic content, caused by the post-stress response, the married couples who were satisfied with their family relationship (28%) showed the success of psychosocial functioning by all the investigated criteria (problems with social functioning, social and psychological adaptation, quality of life) as compared to those married couples who were dissatisfied with marital relationships (72%). The obtained data will become the basis for the development of a complex of means of psycho correction and psychological support for the combatants’ families.
