The adsorption behaviors of V(V) and Mo(VI) on the collagen fiber immobilized bayberry tannin (IBT), a new kind of adsorption, were investigated. It was found that at 323K, pH=2.0, the adsorption capacities of V(V) on 0.100g adsorbent was 1.03mmol/g in 100ml of 1.960mmol/L V(V) solution, and that of Mo(VI) was 0.86mmol/g at 323K, pH=4.0, with 100ml of 1.042 mmol/L Mo(VI) solution. The effect of pH on the adsorption capacity of V(V) and Mo(VI) was conspicuous. The adsorption capacity of Mo(VI) decreased with pH increasing, and the maximal adsorption capacity of V(V) was observed at pH4.0. Langmuir equation was used for the description of adsorption isotherms of V(V), while Freundlich equation could be well described that of Mo(VI). The adsorption kinetics of V(V) and Mo(VI) can be well described by the pseudo-second-order-rate model and the adsorption capacities calculated by this model are very close to those experimentally determined. The adsorbent can be regenerated by using 0.1mol/L HCl and 0.02mol/L EDTA in tune as desorption agent after the adsorption of V(V) and Mo(VI). In the desorption process V(V) and Mo(VI) were utilized respectively. These facts implies that the adsorbent can be used for the separation of V(V) and Mo(VI) in aqueous.

This paper presents a study on the adsorption of structurally different C.I. Acid Red 1(AR-1) and C.I. Acid Yellow 4(AY-4) from aqueous solution by a series water-insoluble crosslinked cationic starches with different degrees of substitution (DS) synthesized by a dry process. The adsorption quickly establish equilibrium within 15 min. The effective adsorption took place at the initial pH of 2-10 and pH of 2-8 for AR-1 and AY-4, respectively. The adsorption capacity of the two acid dyes increased with the increasing of DS of the crosslinked cationic starches. The adsorption capacity of AY-4 was almost two times higher than that of AR-1 under the present conditions. It was found that the adsorption kinetics of the two acid dyes on the crosslinked cationic starch was well described with the pseudo-second-order model (R2>0.99). Further, the Langmuir isotherm agreed well with the experimental data (R2>0.99). Besides, the thermodynamic parameters are shown.

1, 10-phenanthroline and triethylamine modified palygorskites were prepared by microwave irradiation, and characterized with FT-IR technique. The effects of contact time, adsorbent dosage, and pH value of the initial solution on the adsorption characters of Mn2+ were investigated. The adsorption of Mn2+ from aqueous solutions using 1, 10-phenanthroline or triethylamine modified palygorskites were investigated. Experiment results indicated that 1,10-phenanthroline and triethylamine molecules have been successfully grafted to palygorskite. The adsorption was rapid during the first 5 minuts and equilibrium were attained within 60 minutes in the initial concentration of Mn2+ of 50 and 100 mg•L-1, and fast adsorption in the first 10 minutes and slowly increased with the contact time due to the adsorption of palygorskite. The 1, 10-phenanthroline modified palygorskites had higher adsorption capacity than triethylamine modified palygorskites. Compared with natural palggorskites, the Mn2+ ions adsorption capacities of palggorskite modified by 1, 10-phenanthroline or triethylamine were significantly improved. There were less difference in the adsorption capacity between different dasages of 1, 10-phenanthroline modified palygorskites, but the adsorption capacity of Mn2+ adsorbed onto triethylamine modified palygorskites decreased with increasing the dosages. A Lagergren pseudo-second order model best described the kinetics of adsorption of Mn2+ onto the modified palygorskites.

Research results were presented for equilibrium and kinetics of uranium sorption by AM-p-2 strong-base anionite from model sulphuric solution. Kinetic experimental data agreed with the pseudo second-order model while equilibrium ones – with the modified Langmuir-Freundlich equation. Testing of the anionite including sorption-desorption process operations used at uranium-mining industrial facilities showed that the resin had high sorption-desorption characteristics.

The corn stalk/montmorillonite(CS/MMT) nanocomposite was prepared by a solution intercalation technique. The effects of the initial pH value of Pb2+ solution, contact time and the dosage of adsorbent on the adsorption capacitiy of CS/MMT nanocomposite for Pb2+ were investigated. The adsorption kinetics and isotherms of nanocomposite were also studied. The results indicated that with the initial pH value increasing, the adsorption capacity of the CS/MMT nanocomposite increased. Compared with the adsorption capacity of CS (6.32 mg/g), the nanocomposite exhibited the higher adsorption capacity (31.95 mg/g). The adsorption behaviors of CS/MMT nanocomposite showed that the adsorption kinetics was in accorded with pseudo-second-order equation and the adsorption isotherms followed the Langmuir and Freundlich equation.

An investigation was conducted on the adsorption of oxymatrine (OMT) on a spherical cellulose adsorbent embedded with wattle bark tannin. The results showed that the adsorption of the OMT on the adsorbent was solution pH dependent and the adsorption process followed the Freundlich adsorption isotherm. The adsorption kinetics of the OMT on the adsorbent could be well described by the pseudo-second-order rate model. And, the adsorption capacity calculated by the pseudo-second-order rate model was close to the experimental data. Desorption and regeneration experiments showed that the OMT adsorbed on the adsorbent could be easily recovered by 50% methanol solution.

<p>In Colombia, a mineral rich in MnO2 is extracted from the mines of Mallama, Nariño. In this work we studied the adsorption capacity of this mineral for Fe(II) dissolved in aqueous solution of open systems. The characterization was done through ICP-AES, XRF and Raman spectroscopy. The effect of different pretreatments on the mineral with oxidizing agents such as KMnO4 and NaClO was evaluated. Studies of equilibrium and kinetics of adsorption showed that the mechanism fits well to the Langmuir isotherm and its kinetics to a model of pseudo-second order. At the conditions studied was found that the adsorption capacity for the mineral modified with KMnO4 and NaOCl were 59.209 and 51.279 mg/g respectively. It is concluded that the mineral is a potential alternative in water treatment.</p>

Abstract In this study, biochar was prepared from Alternanthera philoxeroides (AP) under O2-limited condition at 350 °C (LB) and 650 °C (HB) and treated with aging by HNO3/H2SO4 oxidation. Structural changes of the biochar after aging treatment and the treatment's effect on Pb(II) absorption were explored. The results showed that oxygen-containing functional groups, aromatic structure and surface area of the biochar increased after the aging treatment. However, the integrity of the tubular structure was broken into fragments. The adsorption process of Pb(II) was in accordance with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and fitted by the Langmuir model. With the increase of pH, the adsorption capacities of Pb(II) increased gradually, and the adsorption effect was best at pH 5. The aged HB presented a decrease of the carboxyl group, which caused less adsorption capacity of Pb(II) than that of aged LB. The maximum adsorption capacities of Pb(II) on fresh biochar at 350 °C and 650 °C were 279.85 and 286.07 mg·g−1 and on aged biochar were 242.57 and 159.82 mg·g−1, respectively. The adsorption capacity of HB for Pb(II) was higher than that of LB, and the adsorption capacity of aged biochar for Pb(II) decreased obviously, which might be attributable to changes in physicochemical properties of biochar after the aging treatment.

The new adsorption material was prepared by grafting the larch tannin onto aminated silica beads with the glutaraldehyde as the cross-linking agent. The adsorption properties of Pr3+and Nd3+on the new adsorbent material in aqueous solution were investigated. The results showed that the equilibrium adsorption capacities of this adsorbent to Pr3+, Nd3+were 402.12mg/g, 305.43mg/g at 303K when the initial concentrations of each ions were 442.7mg/L, 432.6mg/L, respectively and the pH value was 5.5; the maximum adsorption quantities of each ions were 576.34mg/g, 497.02mg/g at 303K when the initial concentrations of each ions were 704.5mg/L, 721.0mg/L, respectively and the pH value was 5.5. The effect of pH value was significant to the equilibrium adsorption capacity, the optimum pH values of this material to Pr3+and Nd3+were both 5.5; while the effect of the temperature was not obvious to the equilibrium adsorption capacity. The adsorption thermodynamics meet Freundlich equation, and the adsorption kinetics data of this adsorbent to Pr3+, Nd3+fitted with the pseudo-second-order rate equation dynamics model.

Calcium pretreatedHevea brasiliensissawdust has been used as an effective and efficient adsorbent for the removal of copper ion from the contaminated water. Batch experiment was conducted to check the effect of pH, initial concentration, contact time, and adsorbent dose. The results conclude that adsorption capacity of adsorbent was influenced by operating parameters. Maximum adsorption capacity found from the batch adsorption process was 37.74 mg/g at pH of 5.6. Various isotherm models like Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin were used to compare the theoretical and experimental data, whereas the pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, and intraparticle diffusion models were applied to study the kinetics of the batch adsorption process. Dynamic studies were also conducted in packed-bed column using different bed depths and the maximum adsorption capacity of 34.29 was achieved. Characterizations of the adsorbent were done by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy.
