In ship pitch balance system, serious flow impact and water hammer occur because of the turning on and off of valve during the procedure of water-shift. Flow area of the ball valve used most on ship was derived, and mathematical models of pressure lost before and after valve were formulated. Besides, considering the fact of water-shift balance system, an AMESim model was established based on improved traditional throttle model. And the validity of AMESim model was ascertained by comparing simulation results of stable pressure before and after valve with calculated values from mathematical models. Then, with the AMESim model, impact characteristics of water-shift pipeline were investigated when adopting various valve switch rules, length of pipelines before and after valve and using an accumulator in system. From that, methods to reduce pipeline impact were proposed, which make good references for noise control of ship pitch balance system.

Firstly, according to the structure characteristics of precision centrifuge, the mathematical model of its dynamic balancing system was set up, and the dynamic balancing scheme of double test surfaces, double emendation surfaces were established. Then the dynamic balance system controller of precision centrifuge was designed. Simulation results show that the controller designed can completely meet the requirements of precision centrifuge dynamic balance control system.

ABSTRACTFEM simulation of micro-rotating-structures was performed for local measurement of residual stresses in thin films. A sensitivity factor is introduced, studied and tabulated from the simulation results. The residual stress can be evaluated from the rotating deflection, the lengths of rotating and fixed beams, and the sensitivity factor. The micro-structure technique was applied to measure residual stresses in both silicon nitride and polysilicon thin films, before and after rapid thermal annealing (RTA), and further confirmed by wafer curvature method. Residual stresses in polysilicon films at different RTA stages were also characterized by micro-Raman spectroscopy (MRS). The experimental results indicate that micro-rotating-structures indeed have the ability to measure spatially and locally residual stresses in MEMS thin films with appropriate sensitivities.

Lotka–Volterra population competition model plays an important role in mathematical models. In this paper, Julia set of the competition model is introduced by use of the ideas and methods of Julia set in fractal geometry. Then feedback control is taken on the Julia set of the model. And synchronization of two different Julia sets of the model with different parameters is discussed, which makes one Julia set change to be another. The simulation results show the efficacy of these methods.

The traffic-flow characteristics on an experimental, 20-km-long three-lane highway section in Finland were studied. The sections of highway that have a separate passing lane consist of three lanes. The central lane is assigned alternately to each direction as a passing lane with a length of 1.05 to 1.70 km. The lengths of the no-overtaking zones between successive passing lanes are 1.5 to 4.0 km. The traffic-flow characteristics on the three-lane highway have been observed by comprehensive before-and-after field studies and complementary simulations. Because it was possible to use passing lanes, the number of overtakings on the three-lane highway was remarkably higher than on the former two-lane highway. The overall average travel speeds were slightly higher, and the speed decreased a little more slowly with increasing flow on the three-lane compared with the two-lane highway. Overall platooning and mean platoon lengths decreased as a result of platoon dispersal on the passing lanes. The speeds used in the passing lanes were clearly higher than in the basic lanes. According to the simulation results, the optimum length for a single passing lane was between 0.5 and 2.5 km depending on flow rate and measure of effectiveness. For the actual three-lane highway conditions, passing lanes 1.0 to 1.5 km long seemed to bring the most benefits.

This paper presents a data-driven method to detect vehicle problems related to unintended acceleration (UA). A diagnostic system is formulated by analyzing several specific vehicle events such as acceleration peaks and generating corresponding mathematical models. The diagnostic algorithm was implemented in the Simulink/dSpace environment for validation. Major factors that affect vehicles’ acceleration (e.g., changes of road grades and gear shifting) were included in the simulation. UA errors were added randomly when human drivers drove virtual cars. The simulation results show that the algorithm succeeds in detecting abnormal acceleration.

The present work aimed to outline the need to investigate different fields of research to interpret the structural behaviour of a monument as complex as the Colosseum. It is shown how defining the numerical models first. then refining them, followed by interpretation of results. is strictly linked with the inforination gathered from historical records and observation of the ~nonumenta s it is today. The study is confined to the area of the Valadier abutment. analysing its state and its seismic behaviour before and after the XIX century restoration using different ilumerical tools, from the elastic modal analysis to the non linear step by step time history direct integration. The procedure comparati\ely evaluates the reliability in the interpretation of the results and identifies future lines or research.

The reasons for the occurrence of an impact when closing a butt erfl y valve installed on pipelines that discharge sludge water from horizontal sedimentation tanks of treatment facilities are considered. The assumption about the possibility of water hammer was experimentally refuted. It is hypothesized that the cause of the impact is the disruption of the fl uid fl ow when fl owing around a fl at plate at critical angles of att ack. A numerical experiment was carried out, which consists in modeling the movement of a water fl ow in a completely fi lled, closed space of a pipe. As a result of the experiment, it was revealed that the fl ow stall was caused by the formation of zones of high and low pressure, respectively, before and after the valve. This provides additional energy to increase the closing torque, comparable to the force of a pneumatic actuator, and results in an impact.

AbstractTo mitigate more casualties from the COVID-19 outbreak, this study assessed optimal vaccination scenarios, considering some existing healthcare conditions and some assumptions, by developing SIQRD (Susceptible-Infected-Quarantine-Recovery-Death) models for Jakarta, West Java, and Banten, in Indonesia. The models included an age-structured dynamic transmission model that naturally could give different treatments among age groups of population. The simulation results show that the timing and period’s length of the vaccination should be well planned and prioritizing particular age groups will give significant impact on the total number of casualties.

Achieving the low-latency constraints of public safety applications during disaster could be life-saving. In the context of public safety scenarios, in this paper, we propose an efficient radio resource slicing algorithm that enables first responders to deliver their life-saving activities effectively. We used the tool of stochastic geometry to model the base station distribution before and after a disaster. In addition, under this umbrella, we also proposed an example of public safety scenario, ultrareliable low-latency file sharing, via in-band device-to-device (D2D) communication. The example scenario is implemented in NS-3. The simulation results show that radio resource slicing and prioritization of first responders resources can ensure ultrareliable low-latency communication (URLLC) in emergency scenarios.

The aim of this study was to compare the effect and durability of perturbation and vestibular exercises on balance and the risk of falling in people with visual impairment (VI). Thirty-six men with VI were divided into three groups, including a control and two experimental (perturbation and vestibular) groups. The experimental groups performed perturbation and vestibular exercises for 4 weeks and three sessions per week. Biodex balance system was used to assess balance and falling risk before and after training interventions. To evaluate the effects within and between groups at three levels of measurement: pre-test, post-test, and durability effect between three groups, repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) and one-way ANOVA were used. Repeated measures ANOVA test showed that both experimental groups showed significant improvements in static balance, dynamic balance, and falling risk. In comparison between the groups, the results showed that in the post-test and durability stages, there was a significant difference between the groups and the perturbation exercise group had a greater effect on the dependent variables. Due to the effectiveness of exercises, it is recommended that people with VI pay attention to balance-based perturbation exercises to strengthen the somatosensory system and vestibular exercises to strengthen the vestibular system.
