Under the requirement of energy savings and emission reduction in China, building energy consumption, which occupies a rising proportion of the total energy consumption in society, has become the focus of energy conservation research. Public buildings with a high-energy consumption level have become the most important part of energy conservation research. It is of great practical significance and social value to study energy conservation in large public buildings. In this paper, a large office building is taken as an example. First, a simulation model is constructed by using the energy consumption simulation analysis method, and the reliability of the model is verified by a comparison with the actual energy consumption. Second, based on the model, the thermal design parameters of six building envelope structures, including the external wall heat transfer coefficient, are analyzed in the order of energy-saving sensitivity. Based on the results of the sensitivity analysis, suggestions for each factor are presented. Finally, considering the mutual influence of each parameter on the building energy consumption, the orthogonal design method is used to arrange the test, and the optimal scheme combination of the energy-saving effect is analyzed, which can provide decision support for the energy saving of public building envelopes.

At present, people pay more attention to the energy consumption of building electrical design, the use of energy-saving design can maximize the energy conservation resources, and ultimately increase the pace of social sustainable development. Therefore, the energy-saving designers involved in the need to follow the economic rational, safe and feasible benchmark to select the appropriate energy-saving measures to increase research and development of new technologies, new products and new energy, the concept of sustainable development to be implemented. In view of this, this paper mainly analyzes the energy saving technical measures in the electrical design of thebuilding.

The continuing importance of energy conservation in the building sector has drawn major attention to energy audits of existing buildings in different climates. In this paper, the energy conservation potential of a residential building located in Iran’s cold climate was investigated through an analysis of its actual energy consumption and through computer simulation. The building base-load was determined using a linear regression method based on existing energy bills, and was used to validate the computer simulation of its energy usage. The impact of typical energy saving solutions was evaluated for three cost refurbishment scenarios: low, medium and high. The results show that the existing construction and envelope materials fail to meet the national standards of Iran, but insulating the envelope was found to be a more cost-effective measure than modifying the windows. The results also demonstrate that although the use of energy-saving solutions has a significant impact on energy consumption, even the most economic solutions investigated will have a payback period longer than one decade. Thus, with current energy prices the reviewed energy conservation strategies are not economically justified in Iran from the consumer perspective, as investment in the methods considered typical in other parts of the world will not show a return for at least a half-century.

Since the 90's of last century, energy conservation project of civil architecture has been started in China. Till now, civil builings’ energy consumption, especially public buildings is still serious, which is caused by many factors and the duty mechanism is one of the most important factors. The paper analyzed the prerequisites to launch the duty mechanism, those who should take the responsibility to launch the duty mechanism, responsibility system of the duty mechanism and how to realize the duty mechanism.

High energy consumption is an important issue affecting the operation and development of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). This paper seeks energy-saving opportunities from three aspects: energy application, process optimization, and performance evaluation. Moreover, effective energy-saving can be achieved from the perspective of energy supply and recovery by using green energy technologies, including wastewater and sludge energy recovery technologies. System optimization and control is used to reduce unnecessary energy consumption in operation. Reasonable indexes and methods can help researchers evaluate the application value of energy-saving technology. Some demonstration WWTPs even can achieve energy self-sufficiency by using these energy conservation technologies. Besides, this paper introduces the challenges faced by the wastewater treatment industry and some emerging energy-saving technologies. The work can give engineers some suggestions about reducing energy consumption from comprehensive perspectives.

Abstract. In view of the status of existing buildings in northwest of Liaoning, most of which are lack of energy-saving practices and appear poor comfort, this paper starts from the energy saving concept, aims at figuring out the energy saving measures for cold regions, such as northwest of Liaoning province. The research includes analyzing energy-saving methods, steps and initiatives. Based on these, this paper also proposes specific technical practices to overcome the shortcomings of the existing buildings on energy conservation, and gives advices on how to reduce energy consumption and improve the quality of people’s living and working environment.

Efficient energy use is critical for the success of any industrial facility since reduced energy consumption through energy conservation/saving programs can benefit not only consumers and utilities, but society in general as well. In particular, reduced energy consumption generally leads to reduced emissions of greenhouse gases and other air pollutants into the environment. It also helps reduce the operational costs in the facility. There is a strong need to take some energy saving measures in every plant/ facility. Although these may be quite diverse, some of these measures include thermal insulation, use of more efficient equipment, heat recovery systems, high efficiency lighting, changing the fuel, reducing the cost of compressed air, and enhancing productivity. In this study, some certain energy conservation measures are considered for assessing a packaging film manufacturing facility in Gaziantep, Turkey. Taking advantage of dry and hot climates of the city, cooling compressor inlet air by evaporative cooling technique is also assessed. Our investigation shows that there is a huge room for energy conservation measures. The total savings potential are expected to be 869,350 YTL (about $725,000) representing about 16% of the total energy consumption. The payback periods for the identified measures are justified. We believe that the results are typical rather than exceptional for the industrial sector in Turkey.

PurposeWith the problem of environment and energy becoming prominent, energy conservation and emission reduction have received more attention. In the using process, buildings not only have the inherent energy consumption but also have the energy consumption of equipment that is installed for improving the indoor environment. This study aims to investigate how to reduce the energy consumption of buildings through utilizing natural resources.Design/methodology/approachThis paper briefly introduces three objective functions in the building energy-saving model: building energy consumption, natural lighting and natural ventilation. Genetic algorithm was used to optimize the building parameters to achieve energy conservation and comfort improvement. Then a two-story rental building was analyzed.FindingsThe genetic algorithm converged to Pareto optimal solution set after 10,000 times of iterations, which took 61024 s. The lowest energy consumption of the scheme that was selected from the 70 optimal solutions was 5580 W/(m2K), the lighting coefficient was 5.56% and Pressure Difference Pascal Hours (PDPH) was 6453 h; compared with the initial building parameters, the building energy consumption reduced by 3.40%, the lighting coefficient increased by 11.65% and PDPH increased by 9.54%.Originality/valueIn short, the genetic algorithm can effectively optimize the energy-saving parameters of buildings.
