The new environmentally friendly materials have broad application prospects in environmental protection and the environmental governance. This paper reviewed the recent progress of the new-style environmentally friendly materials in environmental protection and the aspects of research and applications are discussed in this paper one by one of several kinds of new-style environmentally friendly materials in environmental protection and governance, and introduces the application of new environmentally friendly technology in air pollution, sewage treatment and other aspects of environmental protection. The noise pollution control, solid waste disposal, environmental monitoring and other applications are also introduced.

Fe-containing compound clinoptilolite media (Fe-M), prepared with natural clinoptilolite, was applied to be the filter media of BAF, and then the treating performance of sewage by BAFs with Fe-M and ceramsite were investigated. Because Fe-M had relatively larger surface area, better pore connectivity, higher biofilm microbial biomass, and the ion-exchanging and adsorption effect, a higher ammonia nitrogen removal efficiency was obtained in BAF with Fe-M than ceramsite; and higher phosphorus removal in BAF with Fe-M was also realized by the adsorption and precipitation effect of the leaching ferric ions. Fe-M is more suitable to be used as the filter of BAF to treat sewage wastewater than ceramsite, which has a high value of broad application prospects and engineering popularization value.

The formulation of Difenoconazole Suspension Concentrates (SC) was optimized with the orthogonal design method.Results showed that the optimum formulation separation rate was 6.6% and the decomposition rate of the active ingredient was less than 3.0% in heated storage, and accorded with the requirements of SC. It would has broad application prospects for its safer, less toxic and more environmentally friendly.

This research article examines the promotion of efficacy in the regulation of noise pollution in Kenya through devolution and public participation. The prevention of noise pollution has been recognised as a component of a clean and healthy environment. In many countries, Kenya included, comparatively little attention is paid to noise pollution, despite its importance in the urban and industrial scene.  For example, although the provisions of sections 115 and 175 of the Public Health Act and the Penal Code respectively, prohibit and criminalise public nuisance, their enforcement is outside the competence of the individual. Rarely does one hear of a court action by public health or other officers yet pollution continue to occur.  It appears that there has been total apathy by the officers concerned with the enforcement and the community affected by the nuisance. Lack of efficacy in the implementation and enforcement of the Regulations is a major reason for the existence of noise pollution in Kenya. Among the challenges faced is the lack of resources in terms of logistics to create awareness with regards to the problems associated with noise pollution. The Kenyan public are yet to appreciate and understand that noise is an unnecessary evil in the society. As the level of noise pollution rises every day at an alarming rate a serious problem is looming to the members of the public and the country in terms of the health issues, communication troubles, general nuisance, and its corresponding effects on wildlife. There is a limited research field study and gaps in this area regarding noise pollution control and how to enhance its efficacy in Kenya. New strategies, beyond the simple command and control instruments currently in place at the national level, shall help in changing behaviours in ways that shall be beneficial to the society as a whole. This paper tends to look at how the various tiers of national and county governments have embraced these principles in the promotion of efficacy in the environmental governance in Kenya, especially in noise pollution control.

From the perspective of game theory, this paper analyzed the promotion effect of government subsidy policy on environmental governance. Three main results were obtained as follows. 1. A positive effect is achieved when the government increases the amount of penalties imposed on companies and uses fines as a reward subsidy to environmental companies. Such policy can not only improve the probability of pollution control by enterprises, but also enable the government to reduce the regulatory costs in environmental issues. 2. When government departments choose small enterprises for environmental protection subsidies, they can not only greatly increase the probability of pollution control by enterprises, but also increase the complexity of government supervision. 3. The government needs to strengthen supervision to maintain the high probability of pollution control by enterprises.

Immediately after independence in 1946, the Government of India resorted to rapid industrialization to minimize outside dependence and to improve the standard of living. This, while helping the country to grow, also created problems of environmental management. Rapid deterioration of natural resources forced the Government to enact a number of legislative measures and create regulatory agencies both at central and state government levels. These agencies were given powers to effectively implement various Acts. Severe penalties, including fines and imprisonment, were envisaged for offenders of environmental Acts. Responsibilities were defined, to avoid a scapegoat approach. On the other hand, to reward industries showing a positive approach to environmental protection, a number of fiscal incentives and tax benefits were also offered. Recently, to provide more comprehensive legislation for the protection of all the components of the environment under a single agency, a new bill entitled the ‘Environmental Protection Bill, 1986' has been introduced in Parliament. This regulatory approach has started to show results, and more and more industries have started to provide pollution control facilities.

The antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are a group of unique naturally occurring anti-microbial compounds with around 50 amino acids. It represents promising therapeutic agents to the infectious disease without concerning about drug resistance. However, commercial development of these peptides for even the simplest application has been hindered by the limitations of sources, instability, toxicity and bioavailability. To improve the properties of the artificial synthesized AMPs, the modification and design are the hotspots of the AMPs research. In fact, more than half of the known AMPs are naturally modified. In this review, two types of modification strategies, biochemical modification and chemical modification were summarized. Although, the chemical modification is versatile and direct, the manufacturing cost is greatly increased compared to the antibiotics. With the recent progress of the protein modification enzyme, the biochemical modification of the antimicrobial peptide followed by heterologous expression has great application prospects.

AbstractIn recent years, it has become popular for some of countries and regions to adapt the system of governance to varied and complex issues concerned with regional development and the environment. Watershed management is possibly the best example of this. It involves flood control, water use management and river environment simultaneously. Therefore, comprehensive watershed-based management should be aimed at balancing those aims. The objectives of this study are to introduce the notion of environmental governance into the planning process, to establish a method for assessing the alternatives and to develop a procedure for determining the most appropriate plan for environmental governance. The planning process here is based on strategic environment assessment (SEA). To verify the hypothetical approach, the middle river basin in the Tokachi River, Japan was selected as a case study. In practice, after workshop discussions, it was found to have the appropriate degree of consensus based on the balance of flood control and environmental protection in the watershed.

Abstract In 2015, the All-China Environment Federation v Dezhou Jinghua Group Zhenhua Corporation Limited case was the first civil environmental public interest litigation (CEPIL) against air pollution in China. Constituting a milestone in the field of air pollution control in China, this case (i) confirms the eligibility of a non-governmental organisation (NGO) to file civil public interest litigations; (ii) discusses remedies for the ecological destruction caused by air pollution; (iii) assesses the ecological and environmental damage using the ‘virtual restoration cost’ method; and (iv) uses public apology as an innovative way for Zhenhua to assume liability. By applying and interpreting several important rules under the Environmental Protection Law of China (EPLC) for the first time, this case sets an example for future CEPILs against air pollution in China.

With soil-rock mixture (SRM) as the object of study and compaction test as the means, the paper studies the compactability of the SRM and analyzes the compactability influencing factors and engineering properties after compaction. Studies show that the soil engineering properties of compacted SRM are greatly improved, so it is a building material with broad application prospects.
