In order to study the physical phenomena and mechanical properties of cutters when cutting rock, a test apparatus for cutting performance of cutters of large excavation equipment is established. The test apparatus is composed of a vertical loading system, a rotary loading system, a control system and a test system. Tests of different cut penetrations and spacings were carried out using the test apparatus. Meanwhile, the real-time images of the cutting process and forces acting on the cutters were obtained. The result shows that the test apparatus has good practicality and reliability, and it provides a laboratory test method to study the cutter-rock coupling mechanism and cutting performance of cutters.

In order to study the influence parameters for the wiper-windscreen friction, a test system was built, using an assembly of a car plane auto rear window glass, with the electrical motor, the wiper mechanism and also a wiper with a modified arm (by inserting a transducer to measure the friction force, based on tensometric strain gauges). Also on the wiper arm, on the opposite side of the arm/blade connection (located approximatelly at the middle of the blade length) a loading system was mounted. Different loading forces can be applied to the blade contact by gravity by simple changing the mass placed on this system. A large number of experiments were performed for different combinations of the values for the blade oscillating period and for the normal force in dry and wetted conditions for the blade-windscreen contact. The obtained results, reveal a direct correlation of the friction force with the load mass and with the relative speed in the contact (blade moving period). A higher friction occurs for the dry contact. This force has a higher increasing tendency for this contact than for the wetted contact when a stabilisation tendency of the friction force occurs.

It is meaningful to further explore the hardware and software functions of MTS loading system widely used in building structure test at home and abroad. This paper proposes a kind of seismic pseudo-dynamic test method based on internal command control of software. Three programs including monitor station, sincycle test and rampcontrol test were developed by VB, and the connection with NetSLab platform was completed via master-slaver network, then the test system was established. A single degree of freedom hybrid test of single span bridge was carried out, and a short column of CFRP reinforced was used to be an experimental element. Secondary load for the partial damaged model was implemented to research the mechanics performance of the specimen. The result confirms that the established system is capable of conducting the pseudo-dynamic hybrid test. The hybrid test demonstrates that the proposed internal command control method is feasible and effective, which can provide reference for the system development and seismic research.

This paper describes a tilt table test method for measuring the shear resistance between flowlines and supporting soils. This shear resistance is important in considering buckling and walking in the design of flowlines. A significant challenge in measuring the shear resistance is the very low effective normal stresses that exist at the interface in field conditions. Since the measured stresses will be small, even small amounts of friction in a test device can adversely affect the results. The tilt table method overcomes this problem by using gravity to apply the normal and shear stresses to the soil-flowline interface, eliminating the need for a mechanical loading system. A set of test results is presented to demonstrate how the test method can be used to measure the resistance between the flowline and the soil. These results illustrate that the type of flowline coating and the effective normal stress affect the shear resistance.

Abstract An analytical method is described for detection of endogenous disease-associated prion protein in the buffy coat fraction from the blood of sheep infected with scrapie. The method has been improved and evaluated for its performance in the preclinical diagnosis of ovine transmissible spongiform encephalopathies. The test system uses a protocol for sample preparation that includes extraction and concentration and a test method that uses a liquid-phase competitive immunoassay for prion protein. Antibodies directed to a peptide sequence at the C-terminus of the prion protein (PrP) and a fluorescein-labeled peptide conjugate are used in the assay. Free zone capillary electrophoresis with laser-induced fluorescence for detection is used to separate the antibody-bound fluorescently labeled peptide and free labeled peptide. In this assay, the PrP competes with the fluorescently labeled peptide for limited antibody binding sites, which results in a reduction of the peak representing the immunocomplex of the antibody bound to the fluorescently labeled peptide. When blood samples from scrapie-infected sheep aged 712 months and of the scrapie-susceptible PrP genotypes VRQ/VRQ and VRQ/ARQ were analyzed, the abnormal PrP was found in blood samples. These results correlated with the post-mortem diagnosis of scrapie. The sheep were preclinical and appeared normal at the time of testing but later died with clinical disease approximately 12 months after testing. In older animals, and those with clinical signs, a smaller percentage of animals tested positive. This study has demonstrated that this technology can be used as a sensitive, rapid preclinical test to detect the disease-associated PrP in the blood of scrapie-infected sheep. Improvements in the extraction protocol and capillary electrophoresis conditions will enhance the robustness of this test.

The test system for technical abilities of unmanned vehicles is gradually developed from the single test to comprehensive test. The pre-established test and evaluation system can promote the development of unmanned ground vehicles. The 2009 Future Challenge: Intelligent Vehicles and Beyond (FC’09) pushed China's unmanned vehicles out of laboratories. This paper proposed to design a more scientific and comprehensive test system for future competitions to better guide and regulate the development of China's unmanned vehicles. According to the design idea of stage by stage and level by level, the hierarchical test content from simple to advanced, from local to overall is designed. Then the hierarchic test environment is established according to the levels of test content. The test method based on multi-platform and multi-sensor is put forward to ensure the accuracy of test results. The testing criterion framework is set up to regulate future unmanned vehicle contests and to assess the unmanned vehicles scientifically and accurately.

In this paper, an experimental method to quantify the capability of an automotive seat to move heat and moisture away from the heat and water source is presented. To test the method, a test apparatus was constructed that generates heat and water vapour. The apparatus was placed on a seat cushion for a fixed time period. At the end of the period, heat and water transported were measured. These integrated values were used to quantify the seat's capability to move heat and moisture and ultimately to compare seats. By the impulse test method, the passenger seat had an effusivity of 94.7 W s1/2/m2 K. A non-ventilated seat transferred 5 W of thermal energy and an average of 0.36 g/min of water in 1800 s. A ventilated seat transferred 13.9 W of thermal energy and 0.70 g/min of water in 1800 s.

Abstract A test system is described, which allows the search for compounds interfering with human sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) even in complex plant extracts. The method has been evaluated and applied to Urtica dioica root extracts. The lignan secoisolariciresinol (5) as well as a mixture of isomeric (11 E)-9,10,13-trihydroxy-11-octadecenoic and (10 E)-9 ,12,13-trihydroxy-10-octadecenoic acids (3 and 4, resp.) were demonstrated to reduce binding activity of human SHBG. Methylation of the mixture of 3 and 4 increased its activity about 10-fold.
