Static and Fatigue Analysis on a Wing Spar Joint for a Light Jet Aircraft Structure Using 2024 T351 Material

The main objective of this paper is to present prototype of wing spar joint using CATIA V5 software to study the behavior of wing spar joint as per actual working condition and to perform structural analysis of the wing spar joint based on condition of cyclic loading (fatigue loading). Determining the loading modes in the spar joint is subjected to static load and fatigue loads which should be taken into account in the evaluation of the strength and fatigue life. Initially, the components were modeled with CATIA V5 and imported to MSC PATRAN; MSC NASTRAN is used as a solver. From the obtained maximum tensile stresses, fatigue analysis was carried out to find fatigue life of the spar joint with different fatigue load spectra.

To ascertain the grounding corrosion coefficient parking on the ground is the key to evaluate the airframe calendar life. The influence of pull and press load on the grounding corrosion coefficient was evaluated in this paper. The main results are as follows. First, the fatigue life always follows the logarithmic normal distribution after pre-corrosion for pull fatigue loading and press fatigue loading. But the scatter of fatigue life for the wing down-panels is reduced with the fatigue life, and the scatter of fatigue life for the wing up-panels is not changed. The second, the coefficient of the wing up-panels test sample is not changed with the increase of the corrosion calendar life. But, the coefficient of the wing down-panels test sample descends with the increase of the corrosion calendar life.

Concerning the structural applications of steel fiber reinforced expanded-shales lightweight concrete (SFRELC), the present study focuses on the flexural fatigue performance of SFRELC superposed beams with initial static-load cracks. Nine SFRELC superposed beams were fabricated with the SFRELC depth varying from 50% to 70% of the whole sectional depth, and the volume fraction of steel fiber ranged from 0.8% to 1.6%. The fatigue load exerted on the beams was a constant amplitude sinusoid with a frequency of 10 Hz and a fatigue characteristic value of 0.10; the upper limit was taken as the load corresponded to the maximum crack width of 0.20 mm at the barycenter of the longitudinal rebars. The results showed that with the increase of SFRELC depth and the volume fraction of steel fiber, the fatigue life of the test beams was prolonged with three altered failure modes due to the crush of conventional concrete in the compression zone and/or the fracture of the tensile rebar; the failure pattern could be more ductile by the prevention of fatigue fracture by the longitudinal tensile rebar when the volume fraction of steel fiber was 1.6% and the reduction of crack growth and concrete strain in the compression zone; the fatigue life of test beams was sensitive to the upper-limit of the fatigue load, a short fatigue life appeared from the higher stress level and larger stress amplitude of the longitudinal rebar due to the higher upper-limit of the fatigue load. The methods for predicting the stress level, the stress amplitude of the longitudinal tensile rebar, and the degenerated flexural stiffness of SFRELC superposed beams with fatigue life are proposed. With the optimal composites of the SFRELC depth ratio and the volume fraction of steel fiber, the controllable failure of reinforced SFRELC superposed beams could be a good prospect with the trend curves of fatigue flexural stiffness.

For the bolts on the experiment table, there are two main kinds of forces, namely, shear force and tensile force. This paper will test these two different forces that the bolts received, verifying their compliance with the service life. Finding out which situation is better by comparing the safety coefficient under the static load and the fatigue life under the fatigue load. And then put forward some reasonable measures for improving to make the bolts meet the fatigue life of the experiment platform.

Background:: In the process of high-speed driving, the wheel hub is constantly subjected to the impact load from the ground. Therefore, it is important to estimate the fatigue life of the hub in the design and production process. Objective:: This paper introduces a method to study the fatigue life of car hub based on the road load collected from test site. Methods:: Based on interval analysis, the distribution characteristics of load spectrum are analyzed. The fatigue life estimation of one - dimensional and two - dimensional load spectra is compared by compiling load spectra. Results:: According to the S-N curve cluster and the one-dimensional program load spectrum, the estimated range fatigue life of the hub is 397,100 km to 529,700 km. For unsymmetrical cyclic loading, each level means and amplitude of load were obtained through the Goodman fatigue empirical formula, and then according to S-N curve clusters in the upper and lower curves and two-dimensional program load spectrum, estimates the fatigue life of wheel hub of the interval is 329900 km to 435200 km, than one-dimensional load spectrum fatigue life was reduced by 16.9% - 17.8%. Conclusion:: This paper lays a foundation for the prediction of fatigue life and the bench test of fatigue durability of auto parts subjected to complex and variable random loads. At the same time, the research method can also be used to estimate the fatigue life of other bearing parts or high-speed moving parts and assemblies.

This paper presents fatigue behaviors and the stiffness degradation law of concrete continuous beams with external prestressed carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) tendons. Three specimens were tested under fatigue loading, and the influence of different load levels on the stiffness degradation and fatigue life were studied, and it was found that the stiffness degradation of three test specimens exhibited a three-stage change rule, namely rapid decrease, stable degradation, and sharp decline, but there are obvious differences in the rate and amplitude of stiffness degradation. The load level has a significant influence on the fatigue life of the test specimens. An analytical model with load level considered was proposed to calculate the residual stiffness and predict the stiffness degradation, which is in good agreement with the test results. The model of stiffness degradation presents a possible solution for practical engineering applications of concrete continuous beams with externally prestressed CFRP tendons subjected to different fatigue loadings.

The forging die material, a high strength steel designated W513 is considered in this paper. A fatigue damage model, based on thermodynamics and continuum damage mechanics, is constructed in which both the previous damage and the loading sequence are considered. The unknown material parameters in the model are identified from low cycle fatigue tests. Damage evolution under multi-level fatigue loading is investigated. The results show that the fatigue life is closely related to the loading sequence. The fatigue life of the materials with low fatigue loading first followed by high fatigue loading is longer than that for the reversed loading sequence.

This study developed a fatigue reliability method for evaluating and improving the key parts on railway vehicles, which was applied to real structures. The study involved a type of single-arm current collector, while its contact shoe often collapsed in operation and needs improvements. The dynamic stress data from the actual line was tested and converted to load spectra based on damage consistency rule, and then the fatigue life of the contact shoe structure was achieved. The calculation result comes to correspond to its operation life. Based on the method, an improving plan for the structure was developed under optimizing algorithms.

Nozzles in cylindrical vessels have been of special interest to designers for some time and have offered a field of activity for many research workers. This paper presents some static and fatigue tests on five designs of full size pressure vessel nozzles manufactured in two materials. Supporting and other published work is reviewed showing that on the basis of the same maximum stress mild steel vessels give the same fatigue life as low alloy vessels. When compared on the basis of current codes it is shown that mild steel vessels may have five to ten times the fatigue life of low alloy vessels unless special precautions are taken.

Railway vehicle structure fatigue life consumption monitoring can be used to determine fatigue damage by directly or indirectly monitoring the loads placed on critical vehicle components susceptible to failure from fatigue damage. The sample locomotive carbody structure was used for this study. Firstly, the hybrid fatigue analysis method was used with Multi-Body System (MBS) simulation and Finite Element Method (FEM) for evaluating the carbody structure dynamic stress histories. Secondly, the standard fatigue time domain method was used in fatigue analysis software FE-FATIGUE and MATLAB WAFO (Wave Analysis for Fatigue and Oceanography) tools. And carbody structure fatigue life and fatigue damage were predicted. Finally, and carbody structure dynamic stress experimental data was taken from this locomotive running between Kunming-Weishe for this analysis. The data was used to validate the simulation results based on hybrid method. The analysis results show that the hybrid method prediction error is approximately 30.7%. It also illustrates that the fatigue life and durability of the locomotive can be predicted with this hybrid method. The results of this study can be modified to be representative of the railway vehicle dynamic stress test.

Purpose This paper aims to present the fatigue life behaviour of upper arm suspension. The main objectives are to predict the fatigue life of the component and to identify the critical location. In this analysis, three aluminium alloys were used for the suspension, and their fatigue life was compared to select the suitable material for the suspension arm. Design/methodology/approach CAD model was prepared using Solid Works software, and finite element analysis was done using ANSYS 14.0 software by importing the Parasolid file to ANSYS. The model is subjected to loading and boundary conditions; the authors consider a vertical force with constant amplitude applied at the bushing that connected to the tire, the others two bushing that connected to the body of the car are constraint. Tetrahedral elements given enhanced results as compared to other types of elements; therefore, the elements (TET 10) are used. The maximum principal stress was considered in the linear static analysis, and fatigue analysis was done using strain life approach. Findings Life and damage are evaluated and the critical location was considered at node 63,754. From the fatigue analysis, aluminium alloys 7175-T73 (Al 90%-Zn 5.6%-Mg 2.5% -… …) and 2014-T6 (Al 93.5%-Cu 4.4%-Mg 0.5%… …) present a similar behaviour as compared to 6061-T6 (Al 97.9%-Mg 1.0%-Si 0.6%… … .); in this case of study, these lather are considered to be the materials of choice to manufacture the suspension arms; but 7175-T73 aluminium alloys remain the material with a better resistance to fatigue. Originality/value By the finite element analysis method and assistance of ANSYS software, it is able to analyse the different car components from varied aspects such as fatigue, and consequently save time and cost. For further research, the experimental works under controlled laboratory conditions should be done to determine the validation of the result from the software analysis.
