β-Ni (OH)2nanospheres have been successfully synthesized with nickel nitrate as nickel source and stronger ammonia water as precipitant by the hydrothermal method. The phase and the morphologies of the samples have been characterized and analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning electron microscope (SEM). XRD shows that the phase of the samples isβ-Ni (OH)2. SEM confirms that the increase of the reaction temperature is propitious to the synthesis ofβ-Ni (OH)2nanospheres, which are synthesized at at 180 °C for 48 h with pH=9 by the hydrothermal method.

CuO flower-nanostructures are successfully synthesized with CuCl2 as copper source and Na2CO3 as auxiliary salt at 180 °C for 24 h via the simple hydrothermal method. The phase and the morphologies of the samples have been characterized and analyzed by XRD (X-ray diffraction) and SEM (Scanning electron microscope), respectively. XRD analysis shows that the phase of as obtained samples is CuO. SEM analysis confirms that the increase of the reaction temperature is propitious to synthesize CuO flower-nanostructures while the increase of the reaction time is not in favor of their synthesis. The influence of the increase of the auxiliary salt on the morphology of CuO flower-nanostructures is not remarkable. The mechanism of the formation of CuO flower-nanostructure is discussed.

Flower-like β-Ni(OH)2 and nanoflakes have been successfully synthesized with nickel nitrate as nickel source and stronger ammonia water as precipitant via the hydrothermal method. The phase and the morphologies of the samples have been characterized and analyzed by XRD (X-ray diffraction) and SEM (Scanning electron microscope), respectively. XRD shows that the phase of the samples is β-Ni(OH)2. SEM confirms that The low reaction temperature is propitious to the synthesis of flower-like β-Ni(OH)2, and with the increase of the reaction time the nanoflakes of flower-like β-Ni(OH)2 become much thinner. However, The high temperature is in favor of the synthesis of β-Ni(OH)2 nanosflakes, and with the further increase of the reaction temperature.

In this, work, a series of REVO4 (RE = La, Pr, Nd) nanoparticles were successfully fabricated by the hydrothermal method. The as-synthesized REVO4 nanoparticles were characterized by various techniques of X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The photocatalytic activities of obtained products were investigated by photodegradation of moderacid red RS and direct yellow GX under visible light. The NdVO4 photocatalyst showed higher discoloration of organic dyes than LaVO4 and PrVO4. About 64% moderacid red RS was degraded within 150 minutes catalyzed by the catalyst NdVO4.

In this paper, the hydrothermal-assisted liquid phase deposition (HT-LPD) method has been developed to prepare TiO2 films. The crystalline structures and morphologies of as-prepared TiO2 films were analyzed using an X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). It was found that the HT-LPD TiO2 film showed good crystallinity with preferrred orientation along c-axis. Moreover, the as-prepared TiO2 films consisted of two layers, with the tiny nanoparticles as the underlying layer and the flower-like clusters as the upper layer. The photoelectrochemical measurements revealed that, when illuminated by the white light, the HT-LPD TiO2 films exhibited a more negative photopotential value and an increased photocurrent value with elevated reaction temperature, excepting for the sample prerared at 150 °C. In summary, the TiO2 films prepared by the improved LPD method could be served as the promising photoanode for the photoelectrochemical applications.

The effect of the neodymium content on mechanical properties of the electro-brush plated nanoAl2O3/Ni composite coating was investigated in this paper. The microstructure and phase structure were studied with scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The hardness and abrasion properties of several coatings with different neodymium content were studied by nanoindentation test and friction / wear experiment. Results show that the coatings are much finer and more compact when the neodymium was added, and the hardness and abrasion property of the coatings with neodymium were improved obviously. Besides, the small cracks conduced by the upgrowth stress in the coatings were ameliorated when the rare earth neodymium was added. The improvement mechanism was further discussed.

In this paper, the effects of briquetting pressure on the performance of in-situ formed Sialon in Al2O3-C refractory bricks are investigated. The phase compositions and microstructure of the Al2O3-C refractory were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM).The results show the briquetting pressure hardly has effect on the phase of the sintered specimens, two new phases of Sialon with a Z value of 2 and SiC formed. The micrographs of Sialon crystals have the shape of both column and tabular column, but with a cone tip in the specimens sintered at 200MPa and 300MPa and smooth tip in specimens sintered at 400MPa and 500MPa.

Numerous methods have been used to produce high purity TiC. There is no previous study has been reported on the formation using single elemental powders of Titanium (Ti) and Carbon (C) with addition Nickel (Ni) by tungsten inert gas (TIG) weld method. In this work, TiC was synthesized via TIG method by arc melting elemental powder mixture of Ti and C at ~5 second (s) and 80 ampere (A). The effect Ni contents on TiC formation was investigated. The mixed raw material was ball milled for 24 hours followed by synthesis via TIG method. The arced samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning electron microscope (SEM). It was revealed, that small amount of Ni additive to the metal powder allows the production of dense and tough TiC.

Phase equilibria were studied in the system Ni-Sn-Bi. Special attention has been paid to the identification of the recently found ternary phase. For this purpose samples were synthesized using intimately mixed powders. After annealing and quenching, all alloys were analyzed by scanning electron microscope and by X-ray diffraction. The results give evidences about the existence of a ternary compound with approximate formula Ni6Sn2Bi to Ni7Sn2Bi. Overlapping of some neighboring diffraction peaks of this phase with NiBi and Ni3Sn_LT is the reason for the difficulties related to the X-ray diffraction identification of the ternary phase.
