As Beijing is trying to build a global city, its energy security has become very significant. In recent years, Beijing's energy consumption increases steadily. And the government has taken lots of measures to optimize its energy consumption structure, promote utilization of renewable energy and pay attention to energy conservation. By a series of efforts, Beijing has made some achievements in the field of energy.

As an internal driving force to promote economic growth, residents’ consumption also has an important impact on energy consumption. Based on the difference of consumption structure between urban and rural residents, this paper introduces the income gap variable of urban and rural residents, analyzes the impact of urban and rural residents’ consumption on energy consumption, and provides reference for the implementation of energy conservation and emission reduction policies. On this basis, the author believes that the government should take flexible measures to control energy consumption according to the differences between urban and rural areas, make accurate efforts, and steadily promote the implementation of energy conservation and emission reduction.

Iran, endowed with abundant renewable and non-renewable energy resources, particularly non-renewable resources, faces challenges such as air pollution, climate change and energy security. As a leading exporter and consumer of fossil fuels, it is also attempting to use renewable energy as part of its energy mix toward energy security and sustainability. Due to its favorable geographic characteristics, Iran has diverse and accessible renewable sources, which provide appropriate substitutes to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Therefore, this study aims to examine trends in energy demand, policies and development of renewable energies and the causal relationship between renewable and non-renewable energies and economic growth using two methodologies. This study first reviews the current state of energy and energy policies and then employs Granger causality analysis to test the relationships between the variables considered. Results showed that renewable energy technologies currently do not have a significant and adequate role in the energy supply of Iran. To encourage the use of renewable energy, especially in electricity production, fuel diversification policies and development program goals were introduced in the late 2000s and early 2010s. Diversifying energy resources is a key pillar of Iran’s new plan. In addition to solar and hydropower, biomass from the municipal waste from large cities and other agricultural products, including fruits, can be used to generate energy and renewable sources. While present policies indicate the incorporation of sustainable energy sources, further efforts are needed to offset the use of fossil fuels. Moreover, the study predicts that with the production capacity of agricultural products in 2018, approximately 4.8 billion liters of bioethanol can be obtained from crop residues and about 526 thousand tons of biodiesel from oilseeds annually. Granger’s causality analysis also shows that there is a unidirectional causal relationship between economic growth to renewable and non-renewable energy use. Labor force and gross fixed capital formation cause renewable energy consumption, and nonrenewable energy consumption causes renewable energy consumption.

Taiwan intends to be nuclear free by 2025. This study employs the Lotka–Volterra competition model for sustainable development to analyze the emissions–energy–economy (3Es) issue to make appropriate policy suggestions for a nuclear-free transition. It also offers a new approach to naming the 3E relationship. The literature review shows that the environmental Kuznets curve accompanies the feedback and conservation hypotheses. In the 3E dynamics relationship analysis, the model shows a good mean absolute percentage error (<15%) for the model estimation. The key findings are as follows: 1) the fossil fuel-led economy exists; 2) CO2 emissions are reduced with nuclear energy consumption; 3) renewable energy is far from scale; 4) a complementary effect exists between fossil fuel and nuclear energy consumption; and 5) gas retrofitting and phasing out of nuclear seem imminent. In the energy transition, Taiwan drastically cuts nuclear energy without considering energy diversity due to which troubles might ensue. The priority issue for Taiwan’s energy mix is energy security. To deal with these concerns, this study suggests the government could improve energy efficiency, build a smart grid, develop carbon capture and storage, and reconsider putting nuclear energy back into the energy mix before renewable energy is scaled.

AbstractThis study aims to determine the implementation of new energy and renewable energy policies in the context of national energy security. The research method used is legal research that uses a regulatory approach. The results of the study show that the implementation of new energy and renewable energy policies in the context of national energy security has proceeded as it should. This can be seen from the role of the government in making policies (beleid) and management actions (bestuursdaad), arrangements (regelendaad), management (beheersdaad) and supervision (toezichthoudensdaad) for the purpose of maximizing the people's prosperity. In the background of low-carbon economy, the development of geothermal resources has many benefits, which will promote energy conservation, help to improve the energy consumption structure. The occurrence state of geothermal resources in high-tech zone of Baotou is described in detail, including geothermal storage layer, geothermal storage cap rock, geothermal channel and heat, and its hydrogeochemical characteristics. The genetic mechanism of geothermal resources is analyzed. The temperature of deep geothermal is predicted. The prediction is proved that it has a certain reliability.

In this paper, we tried to contribute to the previous literature by analyzing the relationship between renewable energy consumption, socio-economic factors and health in the presence of a stringent environmental policy and lobbying power. Using a Panel Vector Auto-Regressive (PVAR) technique, we specifically examine the role of the government effectiveness and the lobbying pressure in moderating the impact of renewable energy consumption on CO2 emissions, economic growth and health factor considering the case of Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Net Oil Importing Countries (NOICs) from 1996 to 2019. Our analysis shows that (i) environmental policy stringency and good governance will induce a rise in the level of renewable energy consumption; (ii) lobbying power and interest groups discourage the renewable energy sector’s development since the add in economic growth of these economies is not oriented towards renewable energy projects; (iii) a rise in renewable energy consumption, perhaps generated by renewable energy policies, should favor the improvement of public health. Finally, the political implications of the findings are summarized and discussed.

Energy sovereignty in Indonesia is experiencing problems with a decline in national energy security. Indonesia's energy system is currently facing serious challenges. The imbalance in the condition of energy supplies with national energy needs, especially the oil and gas sector and efforts to fulfill national energy needs in a sustainable manner are the main problems of this nation in the energy sector. It is absolutely necessary to have strategic efforts in the field of creating new and renewable energy. Although the government has issued various policies to catch up, but to realize national energy security, it is necessary to urgently regulate the development of renewable energy as a form of supporting national energy security. As for the formulation of the problems raised in this study are: support national energy security in Indonesia? 2) what is the urgency of regulating the development of renewable energy as a form of supporting national energy security? This research will use normative juridical research and supported by empirical juridical research so that it will be able to see the conditions of developing renewable energy as a form of supporting national energy security in Indonesia. To realize this, it is necessary to urgently regulate the development of renewable energy as a form of supporting national energy security.


Electricity demand in India is increasing at a rapid pace because of growth in Economy, urbanization, infrastructure development and the living standard of people. According to the United Nation’s world population prospects (2017), India’s population is 1.34 billion which will go grow further and surpass China by 2025[1]. According to the IMF, the Indian economy is expected to grow by 7.5% in FY19-20 and 7.7% in FY20-21[2]. Increased population and growth in GDP are associated with increased energy demand. India’s primary energy consumption was 754 Mtoe in 2017 and expected to reach 1928 Mtoe in 2040[3]. Major energy demand is from the Industrial sector which was 51% of total primary energy consumption in 2017 and expected to reach 990 Mtoe, by 2040 [3]. Rising energy demand and dependence on coal-based energy generation capacity, leading to the emission of Green House Gases (GHG). Most of India’s Greenhouse gas emissions are from energy sector having 68.7% contribution in overall greenhouse gas emission. Agriculture, Industrial process land-use change and forestry (LUCF), and waste, contributed 6.0%, 3.8% and 1.9% respectively in overall GHG emission in 2014. [4]. Reducing the GHG emission in India is a major challenge in front of the Government as the Government has to maintain sustainable growth with the contribution in mitigating the effect of climate change. Govt. has pledged to Paris Agreement for the reduction in emission intensity of GDP by 33-35% by 2030 below 2005 level [5]. In the reduction of GHG emission, energy efficiency's contribution is estimated at approx. 51% [6]. The industrial sector can contribute most in reducing GHG emission and contributes to nationally determined contribution. Industry consumes 40%-45% of total energy consumption and motor-driven system consumes 70% [7] of total Industrial energy. Most of the energy in Industries are consumed to run the motor for various purposes and consumes a major chunk of energy which can be reduced to a significant level by replacing the standard motor with energy efficient motor. 90% of the motor in Indian industries are IE1 or below IE1 standard [8] and required replacement. By installing the energy efficient motor, the industry can save huge energy, cost and reduce CO2 emission. Observing the opportunity for energy saving by energy efficient motor, this paper aims to analyze how energy efficient motor is capable of reducing energy consumption, and how it can contribute to energy conservation. Methodology adopted in this paper is secondary research, that answers to questions like; why Industry need energy efficient motor, how energy efficient motor can save energy and increases efficiency, cost-benefit analysis of installing energy efficient motor, barriers to the installation of energy efficient motor and solution to those barriers in migration from the standard motor to energy efficient motor in India.

With the development of information technology, computer and network have been widely applied into the area of energy consumption, energy conservation and pollution reduction. Information technology brings convenience into energy conservation and environment protection management, but at the same time, it also brings security issues. In the area of energy consumption, a lot of sensitive data related to national economy and society are on-line collected. Once data theft, it will bring immeasurable losses. Furthermore, data transmission between the existing energy consumption monitoring equipment and platform has no unified interface or standard. So this paper designed a chip, used as core chip in gateway, for compatibility, standards and safety during transmission, which will provide hardware and technical support for the government and enterprises to carry out monitoring of energy consumption and conservation, to achieve energy conservation and emissions reduction targets.
