The ZnTe alloy was prepared as  deposited thin films on the glass substrates at a thickness of 400±20 nm using vacuum evaporation technique at pressure (1 × 10-5) mbar and room temperature. Then the thin films under vacuum (2 × 10-3 mbar) were annealing at (RT,100 and 300) °C for one hour. The structural properties were studied by using X-ray diffraction and AFM, the results show that the thin films had approached the single crystalline in the direction (111) as preferred orientation of the structure zinc-blende for cubic type, with small peaks of tellurium (Te) element for all prepared thin films. The calculated crystallite size (Cs) decreased with the increase in the annealing temperature, from (25) nm before the annealing to (21) nm after the annealing. The images of atomic force microscopy of all thin films appeared a homogenous structure and high smoothness through roughness values that increased slightly from (1.4) nm to (3.4) nm. The optical properties of the ZnTe at (RT,100 and 300) °C were studied transmittance and absorbance spectrum as a function of the wavelength. The energy gap was found about (2.4) eV for the thin films before the annealing and increased slightly to (2.5) eV after annealing at 300 °C

In this work, SnO2 and (SnO2)1-x(ZnO)x composite thin films with different ZnO atomic ratios (x=0, 5, 10, 15 and 20%) were prepared by pulsed laser deposition technique on clean glass substrates at room temperature without any treatment. The deposited thin films were characterized by x-ray diffraction atomic force microscope  and UV-visible spectrophotometer to study the effect of the ZnO atomic ratio on their structural, morphological and optical properties. It was found that the crystallinety and the crystalline size vary according to ZnO atomic ratio. The surface appeared as longitudinal structures which was convert to spherical shapes with increasing ZnO atomic ratio. The optical transmission and energy gap increased with increasing ZnO atomic ratio.

In this work, the effect of substrate temperature on structural and optical properties of V2O5 thin films has been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD); SEM and transmission. The films mince has been prepared by Reactive Chemical Spraying technology in Liquid Phase (RCSLP) on glass substrates preheated at (350, 400, 450 and 500 °C). The X-ray diffraction analysis confirms that all layers are polycrystalline, and the preferred orientation of V2O5 is the (001) plane. The morphology of V2O5 thin films are porous nature and their particle’s shape is three-dimensional. The transmittance and absorbance of thin film were measured from which the optical constants (Energy gap, Refractive index, Absorption coefficient, Extinction coefficient and Optical dielectric constant) were determined.

There has been growing interest in developing new semiconducting polymers for applications in optoelectronics (OLEDs) due to their exceptional processability and appealing characteristic of manipulating electronic and optical properties by tuning of molecular structure and self-assembling. This study is an investigation on the interplay among supermolecular organization and optical properties of thin films of the poly[2-(2-ethylhexyloxy)-5-methoxy]-1, 4-phenylenedifluorovinylene (MEH-PPDFV) conjugated polymer, which has fluorinated vinylene units. This interplay is elucidated exploiting atomic force microscopy, spectroscopy ellipsometry, photoluminescence and electroluminescence. Thin films of MEH-PPDFV have been deposited by drop casting on indium-tin-oxide (ITO), quartz and glass substrates. The dependence of polymer chains self-organization and morphology on substrate surface is presented. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that the presence of F-atoms in the vinylene units of the MEH-PPDFV yields a blue optical band gap with the maximum of the fundamental HOMO-LUMO transition at 331 nm and photoluminescence at 458 nm. The OLED built with the above polymer shows a very stable blue-greenish electroluminescence that is also achieved at 504 nm.

In this work, vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) thin films were prepared using rf magnetron sputtering on silicon wafer and glass substrates from V2O5 target at 200 °C substrate temperature, followed by annealing at 400 and 500 °C in air for 2 h. The prepared thin films were examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), forier transform infra-red spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-visible absorbance, and direct current coductivity to study the effects of annealing temperature on their structural and optical properties. The XRD analysis exhibited that the annealing promoted the highly crystallized V2O5 phase that is highly orientated along the c direction. The crystalline size increased from 22.5 nm to 35.4 nm with increasing the annealing temperature to 500 °C. The FTIR spectroscopy showed the enhancement of the characteristics band for the V2O5 with increasing annealing temperature to 500 °C. The optical study showed that the energy gap for the sample deposited on glass slides decreased from 2.85 eV, for as deposited sample, to 2.6 eV upon annealing the sample to 500 °C. There was a linear dependence between sensitivity and relative humidity (RH) at the range from 25% to 70%, while the behavior was exponential  at high RH range.

In this work, the structure properties of nano Lead sulfide PbS thin films are studied. Thin samples were prepared by pulse laser deposition and deposited on glass substrates at wavelength 1064nm wavelength with a various laser energies (200,300,400,500)nm. The study of atomic force microscope (AFM) and X-ray diffraction as well as the effect of changing the laser energy on the structural properties has been studied. It has been observed that the membrane formed is of the polycrystalline type and the predominant phase is the plane (111) and (200). The minimum grain size obtained was 16.5 nm at a laser energy about 200 mJ. The results showed that thin films of average granular sizes (75 nm) could be prepared. As for the optical properties, the effect of changing the laser energy on them was studied, and it was found that they have direct allowed transitions in the range of (1.55 to 2.45) eV

In this paper structural and optical properties of CdSe thin films with different thickness deposited by thermal evaporation under vacuum onto glass substrates are presented. The structural investigations performed by means of XRD technique showed that the films have a polycrystalline and hexagonal (würtzite) structure. The values of some important parameters of the studied films (absorption coefficient and optical bandgap energy) are determined from transmission spectra. The values of the optical bandgap energy (Eg) calculated from the absorption spectra, ranged between 1.67 - 1.74 eV.

We have studied the optical properties of nanocrystalline silicon (nc-Si) film deposited by plasma enhancement chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) on porous aluminum structure using, respectively, the Photothermal Deflection Spectroscopy (PDS) and Photoluminescence (PL). The aim of this work is to investigate the influence of anodisation current on the optical properties of the porous aluminum silicon layers (PASL). The morphology characterization studied by atomic force microscopy (AFM) technique has shown that the grain size of (nc-Si) increases with the anodisation current. However, a band gap shift of the energy gap was observed.

Undoped and Co-doped zinc oxide (CZO) thin films have been prepared by spray pyrolysis technique using solution of zinc acetate and cobalt chloride. The effect of Co dopants on structural and optical properties has been investigated. The films were found to exhibit maximum transmittance (~90%) and low absorbance. The structural properties of the deposited films were examined by x-ray diffraction (XRD). These films, deposited on glass substrates at (400? C), have a polycrystalline texture with a wurtzite hexagonal structure, and the grain size was decreased with increasing Co concentration, and no change was observed in lattice constants while the optical band gap decreased from (3.18-3.02) eV for direct allowed transition. Other parameters such as Texture Coefficient (Tc), dislocation density (?) and number of crystals (M) were also calculated .
