The aim of the present study was to evaluate the relationship between febrile convulsion, serum iron levels and whole blood parameters. This cross-sectional case-control study included patients aged 6 months-6 years-old brought to the department of pediatrics of Kütahya ParkHayat Hospital with febrile convulsions between January 2015 and December 2019. The patients were divided into two groups as: febrile with convulsions (study group; n= 47) and febrile without convulsions (control group; n= 35). Both groups were age and sex-matched. Some blood parameters such as mean serum iron, ferritin, Hb and MCV levels were used to compare the groups. Mean serum iron levels of the study and control groups were 33.7 ± 2.1 μg/dL and 56.3 ± 7.4 μg/dL (p<0.05), and serum ferritin levels were 27.3 ± 6.2 ng/mL and 31.1 ± 2.1 ng/ mL (p>0.05), respectively. Mean hemoglobin levels of the study and control groups were 10.6 ± 1.7 g/dL and 11.1 ± 1.4 g/dL (p <0.05), and mean MCV levels were 71.1 ± 1.2 fL and 73.2 ± 1.1 fL (p>0.05), respectively. In the light of the findings of this study, the low serum iron and ferritin levels may be reinforcing factors for developing febrile convulsion. However, multicentre studies with more patients are needed to reach a precise conclusion.

It is difficult to find publications comparing rotation kinematics in large joints of the lower limbs and pelvis during gait in patients after single-bundle (SB) reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACLR) with double-bundle (DB) ACLR of the knee. The aim of this study was to compare rotation kinematics in ankle, knee, and hip joints and the pelvis during gait in the 14th week after SB and DB ACLR. The subjects were males after SB (n=10) and DB (n=13) ACLR and a control group (n=15). The values of kinematic parameters were recorded during internal (IR) and external (ER) rotation in the joints during gait using the BTS SMART. The SB ACLR group obtained significantly higher values of ER in the involved knee comparing to DB ACLR and controls and excessive IR in the hip comparing to controls. In the DB ACLR group, excessive ER was noted in the involved leg's foot. Comparing with the DB ACLR and control groups, SB ACLR subjects had more substantial disorders of rotation kinematics in the lower limb joints. However, in both ACLR groups, 14 weeks of postoperative physiotherapy were not enough to fully restore rotation kinematics in joints of the lower limbs during gait.

Increased resistance to adverse factors, including the radiation – an important factor in maintaining the health and productivity of animals in remote period after the accident. Therefore it is important to develop tools and methods to enhance natural resistance and immune status of the animals kept in contaminated areas. At the moment not enough information on the impact of adaptogens on natural resistance and reproductive ability of farm animals in the chronic effect of small doses of radiation and especially with regard to territorial characteristics. The purpose of research was to study the possibility of using adaptogens to improve resistance and reproductive ability of cows in the area of radioactive contamination in remote period after the accident in terms of Kiev Polissya. Research adaptogens action on the state of natural resistance and reproductive ability of cattle in the remote period after the accident was studied in stock of dairy cows in the Agricultural production cooperative «Mriya» Ivankivsky district Kyiv region (third zone of radioactive contamination). According to the principle par-analogues was formed groups of cows Ukrainian black and white dairy cattle (62 heads). In the experiment studied radiological features welfare of cows, their overall performance and physiological state resistance. As used adaptogens: еleutherococcus, and trіvit tetravit. Efficacy was assessed by drugs hematologic indices Independence period. Monitored the course of generations, postnatal period, as the udder. To reveal hidden pathological processes conducted laboratory tests of milk sexual heat slime, postnatal excretion. Determination of radioactive contamination of water, feed conducted by generally accepted methods. Biometric data processing, obtained during the investigations carried out by M.A. Plohynskym and using the computer program Microsoft Excel 2010. In the Agricultural production cooperative «Mriya» Loose cows kept on deep litter of straw. Soil contamination 82,2 ± 10,14 kBq / m2. Total activity diet of 3450 Bq / day. In analyzing the morphological blood parameters of cows, found that the number of red blood cells and white blood cells in the control and experimental groups within physiological norms. In the leukocyte formula cows all groups, certain types of leukocytes, with the exception of young forms of neutrophils, were within physiological norms or at their lower limit. Number of young neutrophils constitute 2,0-5,3% After applying Eleutherococcus young eosinophils decreased by 50.9% tetravit - by 58.8%; tryvitu - were left unchanged. "Shift left" core neutrophils can be seen as a manifestation of lack of usefulness of the hematopoietic system. This kind of physiological miyelopoyezu irritation that is caused by a violation of neurohumoral regulations in the body. In the analysis of biochemical blood parameters of cows, cows significant differences in the experimental and control groups is not installed. Indicators were at the lower border of physiological norm, carotene was lower third of the index rules. When used Eleutherococcus Independence period was 88,3 ± 2,03, tryvitu-85,4 ± 6,20, tetravit – 55,8 ± 7,87 days. The difference between control and experimental groups was, respectively, 4.7, 24.1 and 38 days. That application tryvitu and tetravit Independence period decreased to 1-1,8 sexual cycle. All animals as experimental and control groups provided obstetric aid. Reproductive system disease diagnosed in all groups, the application of adaptogens their number decreased by 10-20%. Conclusions. The use of adaptogens positive impact on the performance of natural resistance and reproductive ability of cows. Based on the research we can conclude that the use of adaptogens enhances natural resistance performance, and improved reproductive capacity of animals.

AbstractThe aim of the study was to assess the changes of blood parameters in 12 three-week-old Polish Merino sheep subjected to experimental jaagsiekte sheep retrovirus (JSRV) infection.Material and Methods: Haematological (WBC with leukocyte subpopulations: GRA, LYM, MID, and RBC, MCV, MCH, MCHC, HGB, HCT, PLT, and MPV) and biochemical blood parameters (acid/base balance, cation/anion content, and gasometry) were determined in blood samples collected one month after JSRV infection, then at four-week intervals for five consecutive months. Results: A decrease in RBC, HCT, MCV, PLT, MPV, and LYM values in comparison with controls was found in the last month of observation. On the other hand, at the same time, an increase in HGB, MCH, MCHC, WBC, MID, and GRA indices was observed. Moreover, at the end of experiment blood gasometric indices such as pCO2, HCO3, and tCO2, and Na and K ion concentrations were higher in the affected lambs than in the healthy animals. The pH values of the challenged animals exhibited less alkaline character than in the case of controls, which was associated with a decrease in O2% saturation. However, the majority of differences between JSRV inoculated and control groups was not statistically significant. Conclusion: The observed changes in the examined blood parameters can be considered as prodromal symptoms in the preclinical phase of adenocarcinoma development associated with JSRV infection.

Aim. The aim of the study was to develop the model for establishing early diagnosis of hypertension in patients with gout. The model was based on data of 24-hour blood pressure monitoring.Material and Methods. A total of 69 patients with gout were enrolled in a single-stage cross-sectional prospective study. Three study groups were assigned as follows: group 1 (main group) comprised hypertensive men with gout (n = 41); group 2 (comparison group) comprised normotensive men with gout (n = 28); group 3 (control) included relatively healthy men  (n = 30). Daily blood pressure monitoring was performed on an outpatient basis using a BPLab device (Peter Telegin, Russia).Results. The significant intergroup differences were found in the following parameters: lowest, mean, and highest 24-hour systolic blood pressure (SBP) values in patients of main and comparison groups (р < 0.001) and in patients of main and control groups (р < 0.001); mean and maximum 24-hour diastolic blood pressure (DBP) values in patients of main and comparison groups (р < 0.001) and in patients of main and control groups (р < 0.001); lowest, mean, and highest 24-hour pulse blood pressure (PBP) values in patients of main and comparison groups (р < 0.001) and in patients of main and control groups (р < 0.001); mean, and maximum 24-hour PBP values in patients of comparison and control groups (р < 0.001). Median values of the lowest, mean, and highest 24-hour SBP in hypertensive patients with gout were significantly higher than the corresponding values in normotensive patients with gout and healthy men of group 3 (p < 0.001). Median values of mean and maximum 24-hour DBP in main group were higher than the corresponding values in comparison group and control group (p < 0.001). Median values of the lowest, mean, and highest 24-hour PBP in hypertensive patients with gout exceeded the corresponding values of patients of control group (p < 0.001). Median values of the mean and maximum 24-hour PBP in main group exceeded the corresponding values of patients of comparison group (p < 0.001). Based on the binary logistic regression model, the prognostic algorithm for hypertension development in gout patients was created using the parameters of 24-hour blood pressure monitoring as predictors and the cut-off K value. If the value of K was > 0.54, then the hypertension development was predicted in gout patients. The sensitivity of developed diagnostic model was 0.84, and the specificity was 0.95.Conclusion. Тhe proposed model, based on the assessment of average-daily values of the lowest, mean, and highest SBP, allowed to establish early diagnosis of hypertension in patients with gout with the accuracy of up to 90%.

Background Older and elderly suffer more and usually have more than one chronic disease. In most cases, each condition requires constant pharmacotherapy. On average, the clinical examination of patients aged 60 and older reveals at least four or five different chronic pathological states in various phases and stages. Disease interference changes the classical clinical picture, increases the number of complications and their severity, affects the quality of life and prognosis, as a result - complicated medical diagnostic process and reduced compliance. The presence in the elderly both mental and physical illness significantly affects the quality of life. Psychological interventions aimed at a patient's awareness of the disease and methods of its treatment, the creation of therapeutic alliance and the prevention of self-medication, according to our hypothesis, contributes to compliance and quality of life improvement in polymorbid elderly patients suffering from mental disorders. Methods In the study took part 325 patients who underwent inpatient treatment at the gerontopsychiatric department signed provided informed consent. The study had a design of a randomized controlled clinical trial. Patients were randomized to experimental and control groups in a ratio of 3 to 1 based on age and gender. The study group of 238 people received standard treatment and psychological interventions. A comparison group of 87 people had only standard treatment. Patients were evaluated for quality of life with SF-36 scale and compliance with Morisky Medication Adherence Scale. Results We have seen significant intergroup differences on the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale in the baseline period. Consequently, its results were not be taken into account in the final analysis. Before treatment patients’ quality of life between the study groups did not differ statistically (p = 0.317). After the treatment, a statistically significant difference in life quality between experimental and control groups was found (p <0.001). A strong direct correlation was noted between changes in quality of life in SF-36 scale (rs = 0.5; p <0.001) and clinical treatment group, which included the patient. Patients with a younger age demonstrated a more significant improvement in their quality of life (r = -0.149; p = 0.007). A greater improvement in life quality was observed in patients with a lower cognitive function deficit in the MMSE score (r = 0.282; p <0.001). Among the self-treated patients, there were significant changes in SF-36 score after treatment (rs = 0.119; p = 0.033). The obtained data confirm that psychotherapeutic interventions (psychoeducation, compliance therapy, and pharmacomania prevention training) contribute to the life quality improvement of gerontopsychiatric patients. Conclusion Usage of the psychotherapeutic program during standard treatment, aimed at the psychoeducation, creation of a therapeutic alliance and the reduction of pharmacomania (especially with regard to self-medication with barbiturates) promoted positive changes in the quality of life in the study sample. Our data confirm the need for interventions designed for improving the quality of life in the polymorbid elderly patients with mental disorders.

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is a collective term for the positional and geometric isomers of a conjugated diene of linoleic acid (C18:2, n-6). The aims of the present study were to evaluate whether levels of hepatic α-tocopherol, α-tocopherol transfer protein (α-TTP), and antioxidant enzymes in mice were affected by a CLA-supplemented diet. C57BL/6 J mice were divided into the CLA and control groups, which were fed, respectively, a 5 % fat diet with or without 1 g/100 g of CLA (1:1 mixture of cis-9, trans-11 and trans-10, cis-12) for four weeks. α-Tocopherol levels in plasma and liver were significantly higher in the CLA group than in the control group. Liver α-TTP levels were also significantly increased in the CLA group, the α-TTP/β-actin ratio being 2.5-fold higher than that in control mice (p<0.01). Thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances were significantly decreased in the CLA group (p<0.01). There were no significant differences between the two groups in levels of three antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and catalase). The accumulation of liver α-tocopherol seen with the CLA diet can be attributed to the antioxidant potential of CLA and the ability of α-TTP induction. The lack of changes in antioxidant enzyme protein levels and the reduced lipid peroxidation in the liver of CLA mice are due to α-tocopherol accumulation.
