In order to determine the weldability of a new type of low alloy high strength steel, the feasibility of the proposed welding process was examined and the welding procedure qualification of a new type of ultrahigh strength steel WELDOX 1100 was carried out through the weldability test of the welded joint, the small iron research and the highest hardness test. . The test result satisfies the specification requirements and proves that the proposed welding process plan is correct and feasible. It provides a reliable basis for the preparation of welding process documents and ensures the smooth development of the company's new products.

In this paper, the properties of the base metal of the low-alloy high-strength steel 20MnTiB, the welding process and the microstructure and properties of the welded joints were studied. The results are as follows: post-heat treatment below 400°C, the strength change of the steel decreases slowly, the elongation does not change significantly, and the metallographic structure is not obvious. When the temperature is above 400, the strength is greatly reduced. And its plasticity increases remarkably, and precipitates on the grain boundary are precipitated and grown on the metallographic structure. When the line energy is in the range of 9.6~12.0kJ/cm, the mechanical properties and microstructure of the welded joints meet the requirements, and the welding process that meets the requirements is studied. Finally, the mechanical properties and microstructure of the welded joint are studied. Provide a reference for the research and application of steel.

AbstractThis study concerns the weldability of dissimilar Ultra high-strength steel (UHSS) and advanced high-strength steel (AHSS), which is used in the modern machine industry. The materials offered superior strength as well as relatively low weight, which reduces microstructure contamination during a live cycle. The choice of the welding process base of the base material (BM) and welding parameters is essential to improve the weld joint quality. S700MC/S960QC was welded using a gas metal arc welding (GMAW) process and overmatched filler wire, which was performed using three heat input (7, 10, and 15 kJ/cm). The weld samples were characterized by a Vickers-hardness test, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The test reveals a decrease of softening areas in the HAZ and the formation of the stable formation of Bainite-Ferrite for S700MC and Bainite-martensite for S960QC when the heat input of 10 kJ/cm is used. It is recommended to use the GMAW process and Laser welding (Laser beam-MIG), with an optimal welding parameter, which will be achieved a high quality of manufacturing products.

The welding of WELDOX960 ultra-high strength steel must consider not only the strength but also the toughness of the welding zone. In this paper, a new welding process with low strength matching backing layer is studied, that is, we choose ER50-6 wire for backing welding, use T union gm120 wire for MAG welding filling, and complete the cover welding. We prepared two groups of welding samples of ER50-6 wire backing welding and T union gm120 wire backing welding. Then we test the samples by optical metallography, tensile test, impact test and hardness test. The results show that the properties of the two kinds of backing weld can meet the requirements. The basic structure of the weld outside the backing layer of the two welding methods is similar, which are acicular ferrite and carbide. Using ER50-6 welding wire as backing, the microstructure of the weld is uniform and fine ferrite grain and a small amount of pearlite. Using T union GM120 high strength steel as backing, the microstructure of the weld is acicular ferrite and carbide. The toughness of ER50-6 is higher than that of T union GM120, and the hardness is lower than that of T union GM120.The research results have been successfully applied to the welding of large tonnage truck crane boom, and the enterprise has achieved high economic benefits.

Forge welding is an efficient welding method for tubular joints applicable in oil and gas industries due to its simplicity in carrying out the welding, absence of molten metal and filler metals, small heat-affected zone and high process flexibility. Prior to forging, the ends (bevels) of the joining tubes can be heated by torch or electromagnetic (EM) techniques, such as induction or high frequency resistance heating. The hot bevels are subsequently pressed together to establish the weld. The entire welding process can be completed within seconds and consistently produces superior quality joints of very high strength and adequate ductility. Industrial forge welding of tubes in the field is relatively expensive compared to laboratory testing. Moreover, at the initial stages of a new project sufficient quantities of pipe material may not be available for weldability testing. For these and several other reasons we have developed a highly efficient single station, solid state welding machine that carefully replicates the thermomechanical conditions of full-scale Shielded Active Gas Forge Welding Machines (SAG-FWM) for pipeline and casing applications. This representative laboratory machine can be used to weld tubular goods, perform material characterization and/or simulate welding and heat treatment procedures. The bevel shapes at mating ends of the tubes are optimized by ABAQUS® simulations to fine tune temperature distribution. The main aim of this paper is to establish a welding procedure for welding the tubular joints by the representative laboratory machine. The quality of the welded tubular joint was analyzed by macro/micro analyses, as well as hardness and bend tests. The challenges in optimizing the bevel shape and process parameters to weld high quality tubular joints are thoroughly discussed. Finally a welding procedure specification was established to weld the tubular joints in the representative laboratory machine.

This paper studies WELDOX960 high strength steel, analysis of the welding ability of WELDOX960 high strength steel. Analyze the weld ability of WELDOX960 high-strength steel materials, and study the influence of process parameters such as welding current, welding voltage, and welding speed on penetration depth and weld width in the automated welding process. Through this test, the welding process is optimized to ensure the weld quality. The results show that WELDOX960 high-strength steel adopts multi-layer and multi-pass welding to form better welds.

This paper mainly has carried on the analysis to the welding performance of high strength steel WH80, through the stretch and the bend test of manual welding rod, arc welding, the slanting y bevel weld crack test and the highest hardness test in welding heat-affected zone. It indicates that the WH80 steel has the good welding performance and is good material for hydraulic support.
