The series of (LuBi)3Fe5O12 film were grown on (111) oriented GGG substrate with diameters 1, 2 and 3 inch by liquid phase epitaxy using Bi2O3-base flux. Different types of surface morphology on the grown films were observed. The films’ surface was smooth and mirror while the film thickness was less than 13 μm and becomes rough for thickness above this value. The grown films were characterized by measuring magnetization loops and magneto-optic Faraday rotation under magnetization reversal as well as ferromagnetic resonance (FMR). All films with mirror surface demonstrate the in-plane magnetization, high Faraday rotation and FMR linewidth about 0.8 Oe at 9.1 GHz and room temperature.

AbstractHgMnCdTe/CdTe photodiodes with responsivity cutoffs of up to 1.54 pm have been fabricated by liquid phase epitaxy (LPE). The mesa device structure consists of a boron-implanted mosaic fabricated on a p-type Hg1−x−yMnxCdyTe layer grown on a CdTe substrate. A reverse breakdown voltage (VB) of 50 V and a leakage current density of 1.5 × 10−4 A/cm2 at V = −10 V was measured at room temperature (295K). A 0.75 pF capacitance was also measured under a 5 V reverse bias at room temperature. This device performance based on the quaternary HgMnCdTe shows both theoretical and practical promise of superior performance for wavelengths in the range 1.3 to 1.8 μm for fiber optic applications.

The La-doped yttrium iron garnet (YIG) films with thickness up to 130 μm were grown by liquid phase epitaxy (LPE) method. All grown thick films demonstrate “mirror” and “striation” types of surface morphology that depend from film growth temperature and thickness. Addition of B2O3 is favourable to a change the surface morphology into a “mirror” one. The mechanisms of the morphological changes are discussed. It was found that the ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) linewidth appreciably depends from surface morphology of grown films. For thick films with “mirror” surface the FMR linewidth is less than 0.8 Oe and more than ten times less in comparison with films with “striation” surface.

KNbO3 thin films were grown on (100) and (110) SrTiO3 substrates by liquid phase epitaxy (LPE) technique. The film orientation and surface morphology were characterized by XRD and AFM, respectively. The limited phase diagram of K2O-Nb2O5-V2O5 system was prepared by DTA measurement to investigate the effect of V2O5 flux on the LPE growth of KNbO3 film. The use of V2O5 flux enhanced a film growth rate at lower growth temperature.

ABSTRACTWe report on preliminary studies of low (14 at.%) and high (53at.%) concentration Mn doped MgO films deposited by co-sputtering from metallic Mn and Mg targets. The structural, surface morphologies and magnetic properties of the films of different thickness were studied. All the as grown films are found to be amorphous and film surfaces are found to be flawless and homogeneous. We observe at room temperature robust ferromagnetic loops with a saturation magnetization value that is a function of film thickness reaching a maximum of ∼38.5 emu/cm3 in the Mn0.53Mg0.47O film at a thickness of ∼92 nm. In thicker films room-temperature ferromagnetic ordering is suppressed and eventually at a thickness around 120nm the expected diamagnetism of the bulk appears. The origin of ferromagnetism may be attributed to cation defects at the Mg-site.
