The necessity of explicating metatheoretical assumptions regarding the view on reality in cientific practical theological research This article is the second in the research project “Metatheoretical assumptions in Practical Theology”. In this project – as indicated in the previous article − a group of reformed theologians is elucidating and discussing their metatheoretical and other perspectives regarding research in Practical Theology. In this article the necessity to explain metatheoretical assumptions concerning a view on reality, is discussed from a reformed perspective. The practical theological implications of a view on reality with its roots in the sixteenth-century protestant Reformation are critically compared with an alternative view on reality in the contemporary context which focuses more on the horizontal dimension of the action events taking place in praxis. This comparison is done with a view to responding to this alternative view in a responsible way. Essential characteristics of the sixteenth-century reformed view on reality seem to be its Scripture-determined vision and theocentric focus as well as the way in which human life and actions are represented as reflections of the “imago Dei”. The need to critically reflect on these characteristics and to newly align this view on reality with respect to challenges posed in the contemporary context, is explored.

The necessity of reckoning withmetatheoretical assumptions in scientific practical-theological research This article is the first in the research project “Metatheoretical assumptions in Practical Theology”. The research problem has to do with the lack of explicitexpression of metatheoretical assumptions against the background of a plurality in scientific approaches to the discipline. Sometimes researchers do not explicity state their theological and other approaches. In this project a group of reformed practical theologians explicitly state their metatheoretical theological and other perspectives and explain their vantage points inresearching the praxis. The necessity to explain metatheoretical assumptions pertaining to the assumptions about reality, the hermeneutical process in understanding, explaining and changing actions in praxis, and the nature and task of scientificresearch, is discussed from a reformed perspective.

Between the execution of Gerolamo Savonarola at Florence in May 1498 and the execution of Giordano Bruno at Rome in February 1600, western Christendom was convulsed by the protestant reformation, and the subject of this paper is the effect that that revolution had on the Italy that nourished and martyred those two unique yet representative men: unique in the power and complexity of their personalities, representative because the one sums up the medieval world with all its strengths and weaknesses while the other heralds the questing and questioning modern world in which we live.

The reflection on film will be situated within the framework of popular culture and livedreligion as recognised themes within the discipline of practical theology. It is argued that theperspective of viewers is of importance within the process of meaning-making. By focusing onthe experience and meaning-making through the act of film-watching the emphasis is not somuch on the message that the producer wishes to convey but rather on the experience that iscreated within the viewer. Experience is not viewed as only emotional, but rather that, at least,both the cognitive and emotional are key in the act of watching a film. It is therefore arguedthat this experience that is seldom reflected on by viewers could serve as a fruitful platform formeaning-making by the viewer. In a context where there seems to be a decline in institutionalisedforms of religion, it is important to investigate emerging forms of religion. Furthermore, theturn to the self also makes people’s experiences and practices in everyday life valuableresources for theological reflection. This reflection could provide a theoretical framework forespecially empirical research on how film as specific form of media serves as a religiousresource and plays a role in the construction of meaning and religious identity.

This article suggests that the topic “children” received considerable attention in the post-Reformation era – the period of CA 1565-1725. In particular, the author argues that the post-Reformation Reformed sources attest of a significant interest in the education and parenting of children. This interest not only continued, but intensified during the sixteenth-century Protestant Reformation when much thought was given to the subject matter. This article attempts to appraise the aim of post-Reformation Reformed sources on the topic “children.”

Letter exchange occupies a significant and growing role in the activities of the Protestant Reformers. This chapter offers explanations for its growing significance in the evolution of the Protestant Reformation. It analyses what over a century of investment in editing the correspondence of the magisterial Reformers has achieved. It offers a yearly profile of the surviving editorial correspondence. At the same time, it underlines the limitations of our concentration on the letters of magisterial Reformers by examining the role of letter exchange in the political evolution of the Protestant Reformation in the sixteenth century, and especially in the context of the coalitions at a distance that sustained it. It ends by evoking martyr letters, as found in the martyrologies of John Foxe and Jean Crespin, but also in a devotional context in Hutterite and Anabaptist dissenting traditions.

This chapter focuses on the Protestant Reformation of the sixteenth century. Following Henry VIII's break with Rome in 1531, the English Reformation led Britain into a protracted struggle with the two great Catholic powers, Spain and France, for the next 300 years. The long-term effect was to define Britain as the leading Protestant power; but more immediately, it posed a far greater threat to England than Islam, and effectively destroyed the rationale for crusading activities. In this situation, the Islamic empires actually became a valuable balancing factor in European diplomacy. Henry's readiness to deal with the Muslim powers was far from eccentric during the sixteenth century. Both King Francis I of France and Queen Elizabeth I of England took the policy of collaboration much further.

The bivium of human life, narrated in the myth of Hercules and symbolized by the Pythagorean Y, was a recurring motif in Spanish theater since the second half of the sixteenth century. Lope de Vega already developed it in one of his most remote sacramental plays, Comedia del viaje del hombre. In Viaje del alma, auto sacramental of Lope composed around 1599, on the occasion of the double royal wedding of Philip III with Margaret of Austria and the infanta Isabella Clara Eugenia with the archduke Albert of Austria, and published in El peregrino en su patria, the crossroads is represented through two opposing ships, of which the playwright offers us an accurate description that has its origin in the iconographic tradition in force at the time

Resumen: La obra de Martín Lutero asienta sus raíces en factores culturales, sociales y económicos, madurados en la Alta Edad Media, y que hicieron fecundo el terreno para la proclamación, expansión geográfica y desarrollo doctrinal de la Reforma protestante. Atrapado por la palabra de Dios, el doctor de Wittenberg, un hombre de fe sencilla y sincera, descubre un nuevo modo de relacionarse con Dios por la «sola fe», la «sola gracia», y la «sola Scriptura», de cara a la justificación/salvación del ser humano. Este singular hallazgo desbanca la doctrina de la iglesia católica medieval, el papa y jerarquías eclesiásticas, indulgencias, reliquias y santos, celibato y vida monástica. Trapped by the word of God, Luther, a man of simple and sincere faith, discovered a new way of relating to God by sola fide, sola gratia, and sola Scriptura, faced with the justification/salvation of the human being. This unique discovery defeated the doctrine of the medieval Catholic church, the pope and ecclesiastical hierarchies, indulgences, relics and saints, celibacy and monastic life. Like wise, Luther through the strength of his Word opened up a horizon of freedom for human life and society, a new way of accessing the world and society, which would guide the trajectory taken by humans and modernity to this day.Key words: Luther, faith, the word of God, justification/salvation, Protestant Reformation, freedom, modern world.

Like the limits of crime, crimes against human life and body are also very dangerous in terms of their effects, so the Qur'an has fixed their punishment for them. Islamic law has set specific punishments for it, and it does not allow any kind of crime to be reduced. These crimes have schakled the very basis of society and they have to be dealt with severely. The basic elements of society are the need to protect the structures on which the lives and deaths of society depend. These crimes can be basically divided into two types: 1.Crimes against human beings (e.g. murder) 2.Crimes against the human body. There is a long way to go around, and in the meantime, this kind of research is needed, the seriousness of which is far greater than the rest of researches. This article examined the crimes against humanity in the light of Islamic law.
