In this study, we investigated the effects of a group approach versus a non-group approach on the mathematics performance of learners. A group approach refers to an arrangement in which learners sit together to discuss and solve mathematics tasks. We studied a convenience sample of low-performing Grade 10 mathematics learners using a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group. The experimental group was taught using a group approach and the control group using non-group approach instruction. To measure the effects of teaching approaches, we administered a Financial Mathematics Achievement Test (FMAT) before and after the experiment. Using a one-way analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) the study found that learners in a group approach learning environment performed significantly better than learners taught through a non-group teaching mode (p < 0.05). The theory of cognitive load was used to interpret the results. The results suggest that a group approach may be effective when teaching certain mathematics topics in Grade 10 classrooms.

  The study investigated pupils’ achievement in rational numbers, using constructivist models and traditional approach of instruction as connecting points between pupils’ prior knowledge of whole numbers concept and the new concept. Pre-test post-test non-equivalent control group quasi-experimental research design was adopted. A research question guided the study and was answered using descriptive statistics; and a formulated corresponding null hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance, using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). A sample of 103 pupils was used for the study. A test instrument titled Rational Numbers Achievement Test (RNAT) was developed, validated and used to generate data. The instrument had 0.74 reliability index of internal consistency through the use of Kuder Richardson formula 21. The results showed that different types of representation are central to conceptual understanding, and are able to resolve pupils’ difficulties and misconceptions about rational numbers. Based on these findings, it was recommended that constructivist models of instruction should be part of the main instructional approaches for the teaching-learning of mathematics at the Basic Levels of the Nigerian school system.

<p style="text-align: justify;">The performance in biology at the secondary level has not been as good as expected. This has been a matter of concern. Thus, there has been a continuous focus on exploring newer innovative learner-centered and friendly instructional strategies to enhance understanding and retention in biology. This study, therefore, determined the effects of Concept Mapping (CM) and Cooperative Mastery Learning (CML) on fostering retention in photosynthesis among secondary schools in Nyamagabe district, Rwanda. A pre-test and post-test non-equivalent control group quasi-experimental design was used. Data were obtained from 151 students taught with CM, 144 students taught with CML, and 154 students taught with Conventional Teaching Methods (CTM). The Photosynthesis Retention Test (KR-21= 0.82) was used for data collection. The data were mainly analyze d using mean and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). The results showed that the CM and CML treatment groups outperformed the CTM group in retention in photosynthesis. There was a statistically significant difference in favor of the CM between the two experimental groups. The male and female students taught using CM retained equally in photosynthesis while gender difference was revealed in the mean retention scores of the students exposed to the CML, with females retained significantly higher than males. The study concluded that the CM and CML strategies were more effective than CTM. It was suggested, among other things, that teachers should be encouraged to apply CM and CML strategies when teaching biology.</p>

<em><span lang="EN-US">Fracture occurs due to the damage of the shape and function of the bone, and the fractured patients generally experience pain. One of the interventions to reduce pain intensity in fracture patients is cold compress. This study aims to identify the effectiveness of cold compress on pain intensity in fracture patients in H. Adam Malik Hospital Medan. This is a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental design approach with an equivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The number of samples is 70 respondents consisting of 35 people for each intervention and control group, respectively, which was collated by consecutive sampling. Data analysis used paired t-test and independent t-test. The results showed that there was a significant influence before and after cold compress intervention on pain intensity (p value 0.001 (p = &lt;0.05)). There is a significant difference between the intervention with cold compresses and the hospital standard intervention on pain intensity in fracture patients (p value 0.001 (p = &lt;0.05)). It can be concluded that cold compress has a significant effect on the pain intensity in fracture patients. Cold compress is one of the nursing interventions that can help to reduce the intensity of fracture pain.</span></em>

<p>This research aims to determine the effects of brainstorming on students’ engagement in learning about probability. The method used in this research is the quasi-experimental with a non-equivalent control group. The sampling technique is in the form of a census. The data was collected through a questionnaire and analyzed by using non-parametric tests -- the Mann-Whitney U-test and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test with alpha level of 0.05. The results show that: 1) there was no significant difference on students’ engagement before and after the experiment in the group that was taught without brainstorming; 2) there was significant difference on students’ engagement before and after the experiment in the group taught with brainstorming; and 3) there was no significant difference on students’ engagement between the group that was taught with brainstorming and the group that was taught without brainstorming. The result of this research indicates that implementing brainstorming produces a positive effect on students’ engagement in learning about probability in math classes in grade XI IPA at SMA ABC Cikarang.</p><p><em><span class="showMoreLessContentElement" style="display: inline;">BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRAK</span>: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan pengaruh penerapan brainstorming terhadap keterlibatan siswa dalam mempelajari topik peluang.Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah quasi-eksperimen dengan desain non-equivalent control group. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuisioner dan dianalisis dengan uji non-parametrik, yaitu uji Mann-Whitney U dan uji Wilcoxon Signed-Rank dengan taraf signifikansi 0.05.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: 1) tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam keterlibatan siswa antara sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan di grup yang diajar tanpa brainstorming (hasil uji Wilcoxon Signed-Rank: ); 2) ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada keterlibatan siswa antara sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan di grup yang diajar dengan brainstorming (hasil uji Wilcoxon Signed-Rank: ); dan 3) tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada keterlibatan siswa antara grup yang diajar dengan brainstorming dan tanpa brainstorming (hasil uji Mann-Whitney U: ). Hasil dari penelitian ini mengindikasikan bahwa penerapan brainstorming memberikan pengaruh yang positif terhadap keterlibatan siswa dalam mempelajari peluang di pelajaran matematika kelas XI IPA SMA ABC Cikarang.</em></p>

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of a combination of problem-based learning and group investigation (PBL Go-In) methods on the competence of the Motorcycle Engineering and Business Program students. This study is an experimental implementation method using quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group design. The results of the study obtained the application of the PBL Go-In model consisting of 7 stages, namely, presentation of problem situations, investigation and exploration, formulation of tasks, learning activities, analysis of progress, presentation, and assessment. The results of the analysis suggest that there are differences in the level of competency of students before and after the PBL Go-In method is implemented. The percentage of students passing minimum grade of 75 before treatment was 8.7%, and after treatment became 82.6%. Thus, it can be said that PBL Go-In learning model is potential to improve the students competence.

This study investigated the effects of Cueing questions as instructional scaffolding on Secondary school students‟ interest in biology in Udi Education Zone, Enugu State. Quasi-experimental design, specifically the Pre-test, Post-test, Non-equivalent control group design was used. Three research questions and three null hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. A sample of 140 students from four intact classes purposively selected from government co-educational secondary schools in Udi Education Zone, were used for the study. The main instrument for the study was Biology Interest Inventory (BII) which was developed, validated and used for data collection. The data collected from BII was trail tested for reliability using Cronbach Alpha statistics. Reliability index of 0.86 was obtained which guaranteed the use of the instrument for the study. The treatment group was taught selected biology concepts using cueing questions as instructional scaffolding while the control group was taught without the cueing questions. The study lasted for 6 weeks. Data were analysed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions while analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05% level of significance . The findings indicated that cueing questions used as scaffold was more effective than the one without scaffold in enhancing interest in Biology. The finding equally indicated that there was a significant interaction effect of gender and strategies on students‟ mean interest scores in Biology.

Background : In 2013 based on the WHO (Word Health Organization) records the incidence ofappendicitis it was quite high in the world. The issues that occur mortality of appendicitis is21.000 people, for female population is more high than men. Furthermore, accordings to therecords measuremants of Kementrian Kesehatan Republik Indonesia in 2012 is 596.132 peopleand in 2013 increased to 621.435 people. In Indonesia the incidence of appendicitis infest thehighest rank between the other emergency abdomen cases from the result survey of HouseholdHealth Survey or SKRT. The profile of Kesehatan Kabupaten/Kota West Java Province in 2015was gived statement about the pattern of appendicitis at the age group ranges 5 ± 44 years old forhospitalized patients was 24,2%.Research Objective : The purpose in this research is to find out the effect of Mozart’s classicalmusic therapy towards the changes of pain scale in postoperative appendicitis patients in DahliaRoom Bogor Hospital.Research Methods : The type of this research is an experiment with quasi-experimental designand Non Equivalent Control Group design. The population in this studies are all of the post operative appendicitis patients in Dahlia Room Bogor Hospital, with 26 samples researched thatusing saturated sampling techniques, and the retrievel to complete the material informations wereused interview techniques at the preliminary studied and observation sheet when the research wasbegin. Results of the study :There is shown the differences result of the pain scale before and afterintervention group as 0,005, and the differences in the results of the pain scale before and after the control group as 1,000, and the effect of classic mozart’s music therapy towards the changes ofpain scale for post operative appendicitis in Dahlia Room Bogor Hospital as 0,007 (p < 0,05).Conclusion : There is a effect of Mozart's classic music therapy toward the changes of pain scalefor postoperative appendicitis patients in Dahlia Room Bogor Hospital. The results of thisresearchmight become knowledge for post operative patients to reduce pain scale by combiningmedical and non-treatment medical.

This study focused on determining the influence of SAEP on knowledge gain in secondary school agricultural education among Form Three students in Migori County, Kenya. It zeroed on analysing the differences in knowledge gained in agriculture between two groups, one taking part in SAEP and the other not taking part. It utilised quasi-experimental design, particularly the pre-test and post-test none-equivalent control group design incorporating a sample of 384 forms three agriculture students in Migori County. A test for measuring learning outcomes was used to collect data before and after the programme. Analysis of data was done using SPSS (Version 22). Descriptive statistics were used to present and describe data while inferential statistics were used test hypotheses at α = 0.05. The study established that there was a statistically significant difference in the acquisition of knowledge of specific agriculture content between secondary school agriculture students exposed to SAEP as opposed to the control group.

The development of GeoGebra media is a technology contribution to the education's world, especially mathematics. The use of GeoGebra media and  its association with egrang game aim to instill the concept of parallelism, perpendicularity, crossing, and slope of the line. This study aims to see how the students mathematics understanding ability is and whether the enhancement of it by using Geogebra media is better than ordinary learning. The samples were students in grade VIII  at SMPN 1 Cibinong in 2019/2020. The number of samples is 60 students. This research is a quasi-experimental research design with a non–equivalent control group. The instrument was a test (pretest and posttest)  to see the n gain of understanding ability. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test. The results are students mathematics understanding ability with Geogebra is not better than without Geogebra and the enhancement of it by using Geogebra media  is  better than without Geogebra media at SMPN 1 Cibinong in 2019/2020. This study investigated the effect of three play strategies on academic performance of low achiev-ing Basic 1 pupils in primary schools in Oyo State, Nigeria. A quasi-experimental research design using pretest, posttest, control group was adopted where pupils screened to have low achievement scores were selected from schools randomly assigned to treatment groups. Participants met on dif-ferent treatment strategies for eight weeks of two contact hours each. Academic performance was assessed before and after treatment with data analysed using Analysis of Covariance. Results in-dicated that the three play strategies are effective in improving pupils’ academic performance (F (3 124) = 310.566; p <0.05). Based on the findings, it was recommended that any of the play strate-gies could be effectively utilized in improving the academic performance of low achieving pupils.
