Although the issue of corporate culture has been taken over and addressed in the literature from various perspectives, there are very few researchers about the role of leadership and motivation in it, respectively very few researchers have addressed them as important components of the international company’s corporate culture. The present paper aims to point out that leadership and motivation can be perceived as important aspects of the international company’s corporate culture. The object of the investigation was an international company (situated in Italy) and its five subsidiaries (situated in Italy, Czech Republic, Germany, and Turkey). As the main research method, there was chosen the method of the questionnaire survey, which was attempted by all the company’s employees (totally 270 respondents). The questionnaire was divided into three separate, but logically related parts—leadership, motivation, and corporate culture, and submitted to two groups of respondents—the company’s management and its employees. In total 11 hypotheses were formulated and further evaluated by the methods of Pearson Chi-square Test, Fisher’s Exact Test, Cramer’s V coefficient, Kendall rank correlation coefficient, Eta coefficient, Spearman coefficient, Mann–Whitney U test and Wilcoxon W statistics, Kruskal–Wallis test, and Friedman’s test. The results of the research have proven that leadership and motivation are important parts of the corporate culture.

AbstractAverage Hausdorff distance is a widely used performance measure to calculate the distance between two point sets. In medical image segmentation, it is used to compare ground truth images with segmentations allowing their ranking. We identified, however, ranking errors of average Hausdorff distance making it less suitable for applications in segmentation performance assessment. To mitigate this error, we present a modified calculation of this performance measure that we have coined “balanced average Hausdorff distance”. To simulate segmentations for ranking, we manually created non-overlapping segmentation errors common in magnetic resonance angiography cerebral vessel segmentation as our use-case. Adding the created errors consecutively and randomly to the ground truth, we created sets of simulated segmentations with increasing number of errors. Each set of simulated segmentations was ranked using both performance measures. We calculated the Kendall rank correlation coefficient between the segmentation ranking and the number of errors in each simulated segmentation. The rankings produced by balanced average Hausdorff distance had a significantly higher median correlation (1.00) than those by average Hausdorff distance (0.89). In 200 total rankings, the former misranked 52 whilst the latter misranked 179 segmentations. Balanced average Hausdorff distance is more suitable for rankings and quality assessment of segmentations than average Hausdorff distance.

Introduction: Acute scrotum is a common surgical condition. Ultrasound along with Doppler plays an important role in differentiating the various causes. Purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of ultrasound in identifying the various causes of acute scrotum. Methods: All patients with history of acute scrotum presenting to the Department of Radiology were included in the study. Scrotal ultrasound was performed with a linear 7.5 to 12-MHz transducer with abundant acoustic gel. Imaging was done in longitudinal and transverse planes with Power Doppler and Color Doppler. The testes, epididymis, spermatic cord, scrotal wall and inguinal region were evaluated. Kidney, Ureter and Bladder region was evaluated for possibility of calculus. Final diagnosis was made based on clinical outcome, follow up, intraoperative findings and histopathology when available. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS version 18 for windows. Descriptive analysis was done. Non parametric correlation between side and torsion was done using Kendall Rank Correlation Coefficient. Results: There were altogether 50 patients available for statistical analysis. Age of the patients ranged from 14 to 65 years with mean age of 34.7±14.7 years. Most common age group was 21 to 40 years. Inflammatory pathology was the most common pathology of actual scrotal pain. There was no significant correlation between side of pain and testicular torsion. Conclusion: Inflammatory pathology was the most common cause for actual scrotal pain. The most common age group was 21 to 40 years.

The benthic invertebrate fauna and the stomachs of brown trout and river blackfish in a section of the Aberfeldy River, Victoria, were sampled regularly from October 1971 to November 1972. The ranges of food organisms utilized by the two species were very similar as were the proportions of the different food categories. Kendall rank correlation coefficients indicated that the diets of the two fishes were similar on all but the July sampling date. Due to apparent differences in habitat prefer- ences this similarity in diets may be regarded as giving rise to indirect competition.

Abstract E-government readiness is an important indicator of the quality of a country’s technological and telecommunication infrastructure and the ability of its citizens, businesses and governments to adopt, use and benefit from modern technologies. To measure and compare selected countries, a lot of benchmarking and ranking indices have been introduced since the beginning of the century. With the increasing importance of trends such as cloud computing, open (big) data, participation tools or social media, new indicators and approaches need to be introduced in the measuring of the e-government development, and the existing indices should to be updated, redefined and restructured. Therefore, this article explores the structure of the existing e-government development indices to show the main indicators and trends. Then, it proposes and implements a new framework to evaluate e-government development using these new trends in ICT. It also examines and compares a basic background on the e-government development, benefits and risks of cloud computing, open (big) data and participation tools in the public sector. Based on the newly proposed framework, the e-government development index is calculated for each EU Member State to clearly identify the indicators to have an influence on the e-government development. In the last part, these results are compared to the already existing indices to validate the conformity of the rank methods using Kendall rank correlation coefficient.

The assessment of the qualitative characteristics of the organization of the educational process by the departments of a regional university, in particular, Penza State University (PSU), for undergraduate students of economics is given. The following materials and scientific research methods are applied: questionnaire survey, ranking method, calculation of the Kendall rank correlation W test and the nonparametric Kruskal–Wallis H test. The departments involved in teaching undergraduate students of economics of PSU were assessed according to the level of their activity in organizing research work of students, the professionalism of teachers and methodological support of classes, the demand for the electronic LMS of the university. It is noted that the quality of the educational process at the university is determined by the personal and professional characteristics of the teachers of the departments and the level of organizational and methodological support of classroom studies. Moreover, the gender, place of residence and status of the students’ parents affect the results of assessing the quality of education from the standpoint of students.

The purpose of this article is to analyze the effect that halving has on the fair market value of bitcoins. The main hypothesis of the study is that the decline in the cost of miners’ remuneration for mining is a significant factor that affects the price of cryptocurrencies. The article examines the factors that regulate the issuing process. The significance of a limited supply of bitcoin is detailed in the article, as well as the mechanism for the implementation of the issue of new bitcoins. The study compares the historical inflation data of the US dollar and the projected data on the inflation of bitcoin. The article analyzes the main technical element of cryptocurrency – halving – when the miner’s reward is halved. This analysis includes the mathematical methods of statistical data processing. Research results show that reducing remuneration by half every four years leads to an increased market value of the cryptocurrency. This relationship is clearly illustrated by the Kendall rank correlation method. The results of the study can have a significant impact on the fundamental assessment of bitcoin and can also enable investors to assess any of the existing and operating cryptocurrencies according to this method.

With the wide application of lithium batteries, battery fault prediction and health management have become more and more important. This article proposes a method for predicting the remaining useful life (RUL) of lithium-ion batteries to avoid a series of safety problems caused by continuing to use the battery after reaching its service life threshold. Since the battery capacity is not easy to obtain online, we propose that some measurable parameters should be used in the battery discharge cycle to estimate battery capacity. Then, the estimated capacity is used to replace the measured value of the particle filter (PF) based on the Kendall rank correlation coefficient (KCCPF) to predict the RUL of the lithium batteries. Simulation results show that the proposed method has high prediction accuracy, stability, and practical value.
