Accompanying the development of mechanical industry, the demand for alloy materials having high hardness, toughness and impact resistance are increasing. Nevertheless, such materials are difficult to be machined by traditional machining method. Hence CNC machines are used to machine such materials, which are capable of producing fine, precise, corrosion and wear resistance surfaces. The problem of arriving at optimal levels of operating parameters has attracted the attention of the researchers and practicing engineers, for a very long time. Thus, this paper demonstrates the optimization of the process parameter of machining Inconel 718 super alloy material via., the Taguchi methodbased grey analysis. The modified algorithm adopted here was successfully used for both detraining the optimum settings of machine parameters and for combining multiple quality characteristics into one integrated numerical value called grey relational grade. An attempt has been made to identify the influence of various cutting parameters i.e., speed, feed rate and depth of cut on physical part characteristics i.e., metal removal rate and surface roughness. The predictions of optimal process parameter with respect to the response are the end results of the paper.

With numerous responses established on Taguchi L9, orthogonal array coupled with current work proposes a novel methodology for optimizing machining parameters on turning of AA 6063 T6 aluminum alloy. Experimental assessments are accomplished on AA 6063 T6 aluminum alloy. Turning trails are carried out under dry cutting conditions using an uncoated carbide insert. Cutting parameters such as cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut are optimized in this effort while numerous responses such as surface roughness(Ra) and material removal rate are taken into consideration (MRR). From the grey analysis, a grey relational grade(GRG) is calculated. The optimal amounts of parameters have been identified based on the values of grey relational grade, and then ANOVA is used to determine the significant influence of parameters. To authenticate the test result, a confirmation test is executed. The result of the experiments shows that by using this method. the turning process responses can be significantly improved.

In this paper, a grey relational analysis method based on Taguchi is proposed to improve the multi-performance characteristics of VMC shoulder milling process parameters in the processing of AA6063 T6. Taking into account four process parameters such as coolant, depth of cut, speed and feed, there are three level of each process parameter in addition to two levels of coolant. 18 experiments were used by L18 orthogonal array using the taguchi method. Multi-performance features like surface roughness and material removal rate are used. Grey Relational Analysis method is used to obtain the Grey Relational Grade, and the multiperformance characteristics of the process are pointed out. Then, the Taguchi response table method and ANOVA are used to analysis data. In order to ensure the validity of the test results, a confirmation test was conducted. The study also shows that this method can effectively improve the multi-function characteristics of shoulder milling process. In his work microstructure and mechanical properties of AA6063 T6before and after shoulder milling have been investigated.

This paper presents a new approach for the optimization of the high speed machining (HSM) process with multiple performance characteristics based on the orthogonal array with the grey relational analysis has been studied. Optimal machining parameters can then be determined by the grey relational grade as the performance index. In this study, the machining parameters such as cutting speed, feed rate and axial depth of cut are optimized under the multiple performance characteristics including, tool life, surface roughness, and material removal rate(MMR). As shown experimental results, machining performance in the HSM process can be improved effectively through this approach.

The present paper highlights selection of significant machining parameters during Electrochemical grinding while machining alumina-aluminum interpenetrating phase composites by MCDM techniques. The conflicting responses like higher material removal rate, lower surface roughness, lower overcut and lower cutting force are ensured simultaneously by a single parametric combination. Control parameters like electrolyte concentration, voltage, depth of cut and electrolyte flow rate have been considered for experimentation. VIKOR is one of the multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) models to determine the reference ranking from a set of alternatives in the presence of conflicting criteria. Finally Grey Relational Analysis is performed to optimize multiple performances in which different levels combinations of the factors are ranked based on grey relational grade. Surface roughness is given more importance than other responses, using Fuzzy Set Theory considering basic objective of the process. It is observed that substantial improvement in machining performance takes place following this technique. The study highlights the effects of different process variables on multiple performances for complex process like ECG.

This study evaluates CNC milling parameters (spindle speed, depth of cut, and feed rate) on medical-grade PMMA. A single objective analysis conducted showed that the optimal material removal rate (MRR) occurs at a spindle speed of 1250 rpm, a depth of cut of 1.2 mm, and a feed rate of 350 mm/min. The ANOVA showed that feed rate is the most significant factor towards the MRR, and spindle speed (11.83%) is the least contributing. The optimal surface roughness (Ra) occurred at spindle speed of 500 rpm, depth of cut of 1.2 mm, and feed rate of 200 mm/min. The milling factors were insignificant. A regression analysis for prediction was also conducted. Further, a multi-objective optimization was conducted using the Grey Relational Analysis. It showed that the best trade-off between the MRR and the Ra could be obtained from a combination of 1250 rpm (spindle speed), 1.2 mm (depth of cut), and 350 mm/min (feed rate). The depth of cut was the largest contributor towards the grey relational grade (54.48%), followed by the feed rate (10.36%), and finally, the spindle speed (4.28%).

This paper applied Grey-Taguchi method to optimize the micro-drilling of PMMA polymer with multiple performance characteristics. The four parameters being optimized are coating layer, feed rate, spindle speed, and depth of cut. The performance of the drilling process was evaluated by two performance characteristics, namely drill wear and surface roughness. The orthogonal array, grey relational analysis, and analysis of variance were used to study the two performance indices. The optimal combination of parameters was determined by using the grey relational grade, a performance index formed by combining the two performance characteristics. The experimental results show that TiAlN-coating drills generate least wear and thus possess the longest tool life and the best holes quality. Finally, confirmation experiments were conducted to confirm the validity of the results.

This paper presents a novel approach for the optimization of machining parameters on turning of Mild Steel alloy with multiple responses based on orthogonal array with grey relational analysis. Experiments are conducted on mild steel alloy. Turning tests are carried out using coated carbide insert under dry cutting condition. In this work, turning parameters such as cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut are optimized considering the multiple responses such as Energy Consumption (EC), and Material Removal Rate (MRR). A grey relational grade (GRG) of 0.746 is determined from the grey analysis for experimental run 27 meaning the control factors of this combination exhibit a stronger relationship with the response variables. Therefore, a spindle speed of 440 rpm, a feed rate of 0.24 mm/rev, and a depth of cut of 0.75 mm is the optimal parameter combination for the turning operation. The order of importance determined for the controllable factors to the Energy Consumption, in sequence, is the feed rate, spindle speed and depth of cut; while order to the Material Removal Rate, in sequence is depth of cut, feed rate and spindle speed. Optimum levels of parameters have been identified based on the values of grey relational grade and then finally, it was observed through ANOVA that the feed rate is the most influential and significant control factor among the three cutting parameters when turning mild steel in the conventional lathe tool, in order to minimize Energy Consumption and maximize Material Removal Rate.

In this paper, the orthogonal experiments and the optimization experiments with the same metal removal rate are designed to investigate the main effects and primary interaction of cutting parameters on surface roughness and to search the optimal cutting parameter under a certain removal rate when end-milling hardened AISI H13 steel with the PVD coated carbide insert. The empirical model for surface roughness based on the orthogonal experiments and the optimization experiments with the same metal removal rate and the optimal cutting parameter were all verified. Under a certain metal removal rate, the combination of high cutting speed, small axial depth of cut and high feed, small radial depth of cut generates the best surface roughness in hard milling of AISI H13.

Turning is one of the most used metal removal operations in the industry. It can remove material faster, giving reasonably good surface quality apart from geometrical requirements. Conformity of geometry is one of the most significant requirements of turned components to perform their intended functions. Apart from dimensional requirements, the important geometrical necessities are Circularity, Straightness, Cylindricity, Perpendicularity, etc. Since they have a direct influence on the functioning of the components, the effect of the cutting parameters on them has greater significance. In this paper experiments are carried out to examine the effect of turning parameters such as cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut on responses like; straightness, roundness, surface roughness, and material removal rate during turning of AISI 4340 steel. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) is performed and the influence of parameters on each response is studied. The optimal values of parameters obtained from the study are further confirmed by conducting experiments.
