In an attempt to incorporate human factors into technical failures as accident causal factors, researchers have promoted the concept of human factor analysis. Human factor analysis models seek to identify latent conditions within the system that influence the operator’s action to trigger an accident.  For an effective application of human factor analysis models, a domain-specific model is recommended. Most existing models are developed with category/subcategory peculiar to a particular domain. This presents challenges and hinders effective application outside the domain developed for. This paper sought to propose a human factor analysis framework for Ghana’s mining industry. A comparative study was carried out between three dominated accident causation models and investigation methods in literature; AcciMap, HFACS, and STAMP. The comparative assessment showed that HFACS is suitable for incident data analysis based on the following reason; ease of learning and use, suitability for multiple incident analysis and statistical quantification of trends and patterns, and high inter and intra-coder reliability. A thorough study was done on HFACS and its derivative. Based on recommendations and research findings on HFACS from literature, Human Factor Analysis, and Classification System – Ghana Mining Industry (HFACS-GMI) was proposed. The HFACS-GMI has 4 tiers, namely; External influence/factor, Organisational factor, Local Workplace/Individual Condition and, Unsafe Act. A partial list of causal factors under each tier was generated to serve as a guide during incident coding and investigation. The HFACS-GMI consists of 18 subcategories and these have been discussed. The HFACS-GMI is specific to the Ghanaian Mines and could potentially help in identifying causal and contributing factors of an accident during an incident investigation and data analysis.   Keywords: Human Factor Analysis, Causal Factor, Causation Model, Mining Industry

A common interest of all shipping industry stakeholders is safe and accident-free shipping. To reach that goal, one of the most important actions that can be done is to analyze previous marine accidents. It means finding causes of accidents and, based on the analysis results, implementing effective corrective measures that can help reduce such undesired events in the future and improve safety efforts in shipping. Since it is widely accepted that human error accounts for 80–85% of all marine accidents, the research was focused on the human factor analysis in marine accidents. In this paper, 135 marine accident reports recorded in the UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) database from 2010 to 2019 were analyzed. The analysis aimed to categorize causal factors and discover the ones that are the most common. The Human Factor Analysis and Classification System for Maritime Accidents (HFACS-MA) method was used to be able to do so. Furthermore, multiple linear regression was used to determine the relationship between the number of accidents and the most common HFACS-MA causal factors. The research revealed that the causes of marine accidents are primarily dependent on two human factor categories and confirmed that by influencing those human factors categories, the number of marine accidents could be reduced and shipping safety improved in general.

Abstract. The Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS) methodology was applied to accident reports from three African countries: Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa. In all, 55 of 72 finalized reports for accidents occurring between 2000 and 2014 were analyzed. In most of the accidents, one or more human factors contributed to the accident. Skill-based errors (56.4%), the physical environment (36.4%), and violations (20%) were the most common causal factors in the accidents. Decision errors comprised 18.2%, while perceptual errors and crew resource management accounted for 10.9%. The results were consistent with previous industry observations: Over 70% of aviation accidents have human factor causes. Adverse weather was seen to be a common secondary casual factor. Changes in flight training and risk management methods may alleviate the high number of accidents in Africa.

Abstract: A house is a basic need for every human’s life. It is not only a place for shelter, but also a place for a family to live, to have social interaction between them, to raise the children, and to give the values of life. Padma Residence is a modern residence which is built by PT. Surya Coco Jaya. Most of its residents make changes to their houses after they occupy it. The main purpose of this study is to observe changes toward the initial design by comparing the initial design and present condition, recording the present condition of the house when it has occupied by determine architectural elements which are changed, determining causal factors of changes, and finding out dominant causal factors toward alteration of architectural elements of the house at Padma Residence, Bantul, Yogyakarta while it is occupied. Methods used in data collecting are literature study and a field survey. A field survey includes observation, interview, and distributing questionnaires to 25 respondents who are the owners of houses in this residence. Data analysis used table which compare the initial design and nowadays condition. The result of data processing and analyzing reveals that the owners do physical changes at their houses while they occupy them, particularly at the front appearance of the house. The changes include the addition of canopies at carport and changes in the layout of the rooms, such as kitchen, dining room, and backyard. A dominant factor which has caused those changes is the function of rooms which is added to the house.Keywords: residence, physical changes, the additon of functionAbstrak : Rumah merupakan kebutuhan utama bagi kehidupan setiap manusia. Selain sebagai tempat untuk berlindung, rumah juga merupakan wadah atau tempat manusia atau sebuah keluarga melangsungkan kehidupannya. Perumahan Padma Residence merupakan sebuah hunian modern yang dibangun PT. Surya Coco Jaya dan sebagian besar penghuninya melakukan perubahan pada rumah tinggalnya saat ditempati. Tujuan utama penelitian ini adalah mengetahui perubahan terhadap desain awal rumah tinggal dan kondisi rumah tinggal tersebut saat ditempati dengan mengetahui unsur-unsur arsitektural yang berubah pada desain rumah tinggal saat ditempati di Perumahan Padma Residence, Bantul, Yogyakarta. Metode penelitian dilakukan dengan studi literatur dan survei lapangan. Survei lapangan meliputi pengamatan, wawancara, dan penyebaran kuesioner kepada 25 responden yang merupakan pemilik rumah tinggal di perumahan tersebut. Hasil dari pengolahan dan analisis data menunjukkan bahwa pemilik rumah melakukan perubahan fisik pada rumah tinggalnya saat ditempati, terutama pada tampilan depan bangunan, perubahan yang dilakukan adalah menambahkan kanopi pada carport, peletakan ruang seperti dapur, ruang makan, dan taman belakang. Faktor-faktor yang menjadi penyebab perubahan tersebut adalah pertambahan fungsi ruang.Kata kunci: rumah tinggal, perubahan fisik, pertambahan fungsi

The purpose of this study is to create a new tool capable of diagnosing the severity of internet addiction (IA) and is based on the nine IGD criteria. These same criteria were suggested by the APA in the last edition of the DSM-51. A sample was recruited with a method of convenience and 300+ participants were recruited through different forums and social networks. The construct validity of the IDS9SF test was achieved through factor analysis and nomological validity. The concurrent validity, criterion and reliability of the test itself have been thoroughly investigated through the most common and consolidated data analysis techniques, confirming that the same test has sufficient psychometric properties to be used also in the Italian territory. Furthermore it is necessary to remember that this preliminary research is only valid in the field of data and statistics with all the limitations of the case and cannot be used for a real clinical evaluation.

With numerous efforts undertaken by both industry and academia to develop and implement autonomous merchant vessels, their safety remains an utmost priority. One of the modes of their operation which is expected to be used is a remote control. Therein, some, if not all, decisions will be made remotely by human operators and executed locally by a vessel control system. This arrangement incorporates a possibility of a human factor occurrence. To this end, a variety of factors are known in the literature along with a complex network of mutual relationships between them. In order to study their potential influence on the safety of remotely-controlled merchant vessels, an expert study has been conducted using the Human Factors Analysis and Classification System-Maritime Accidents (HFACS–MA) framework. The results indicate that the most relevant for the safety of this prospective system is to ensure that known problems are properly and timely rectified and that remote operators maintain their psycho- and physiological conditions. The experts elicited have also assigned higher significance to the causal factors of active failures than latent failures, thus indicating a general belief that operators’ actions represent the final and the most important barrier against accident occurrence.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the general and specific gratifications that drive users’ choice of different social media. Sina Weibo and WeChat in China were selected for the current study. Two separate empirical surveys were conducted and 368 valid data were collected from Chinese university students experienced in using Sina Weibo or WeChat. Exploratory factor analysis, paired t test and independent-samples t test were employed for data analysis. The results identify four general gratifications for using different social media: hedonic gratification, affection gratification, information gratification and social gratification. In addition, factor structure of information gratification is different for different social media. Furthermore, the strength of each gratification differs to varying degrees across the use of different social media. Information gratification plays the most salient role in using Sina Weibo, whereas affection gratification is the most important motive for the use of WeChat. Also, the use of Sina Weibo can better fulfill individuals’ information and hedonic gratifications, while individuals prefer to use WeChat for achieving gratifications of social and affection.
