The study examined the structure and marketing efficiency of cassava in Ado-Ekiti Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Nigeria. Primary data were obtained using structured questionnaires and multistage sampling method was employed to select 183 respondents comprising 93 farmers and 90 marketers. The Herfindahl-Hirschman Index and Gini Coefficient were used to measure the degree of market concentration and the nature of competition in the market. The Herfindahl-Hirschman indices were 0.323, 0.346, and 0.316 for farmers, wholesalers, and retailers, respectively, suggesting that the market was uncompetitive at all levels. The computed values of Gini coefficient for cassava farmers, wholesalers, and retailers were 0.532, 0.465, and 0.569, respectively, indicating uneven distribution of income and uncompetitive market conditions. Two channels of cassava marketing were identified and the study demonstrates that the farmer-wholesaler-retailer-consumer channel had higher marketing efficiency and thus provides marketers with better opportunities for making more profits. Based on the findings, it is recommended that micro credit facilities should be made accessible to market actors to encourage investment and improve efficiency in cassava marketing. This study was conducted in the Dutsinma local Government area of Katsina State on the lessening of the prevalence of poverty through fish production. The primary data used were obtained using structured questionnaires administered to eighty (n = 80) fishermen in the study area. Descriptive statistics, Gini coefficient and profitability analysis were employed to analyze the data. The result showed that 53% of the fishermen were young, 100% were males and 85% were married. Some of the fishermen (52%) had a family size of between 1 and 5. Also 53% had acquired Quranic edification. Results from the study exposed those fishermen use their income to re-invest into fishing activities. The Gini coefficient value of 0.53 indicates that there wereinequalities in the distribution of income. The poverty status of the fishermen showed that 23% and 35% of them were core poor and non-poor respectively. It was also found that fishing was a profitable venture and 100% of the fishermen were faced with inaccessibility to credit facilities. Therefore, it was concluded that the production of fish in this area may lowerthe levels of poverty easily of adopted by re-investment in thissector.

The study examined the effect of marketing intermediaries on onion prices in Benue state, Nigeria. A multistage sampling method was employed to select 150 onion sellers in the study area. Primary data were collected using a structured questionnaire administered to respondents. Data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics, marketing efficiency and Gini coefficient. The study revealed that the majority (66.7%) of the respondents were female, 46.7% were married with an average age of 38 and an average income of ₦96684.00. The result also showed e marketing efficiency of 5.19 indicating that the product was efficient in the study area and Gini coefficient of 0.29 indicating that onion marketing is perfectly competitive. Transportation and storage facilities constituted the greatest challenge faced by onion sellers in the study area. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that the sellers should form cooperatives to promote bulk purchase which will, in turn, reduce transportation charges as well as enable them to achieve the benefits from economies of scale.

This study assessed youth participation in cashew nut marketing in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State, Nigeria. It specifically described the socioeconomic characteristics of the youths, examined the profitability of youth involvement in cashew nut marketing, assessed the efficiency and performance of youth in cashew nut marketing, and determined the level of market integration in cashew nut marketing. A three staged random sampling method was used to select 120 youth involved in cashew nut marketing for the study. Relevant primary data obtained through structured questionnaire were analysed using descriptive statistics, gross margin model, marketing efficiency, and Pearson price correlation. Findings of the study showed a mean age and marketing experience of 37 years and 10 years respectively. Gross margin obtained was N 445, 563.90 per annum, N14, 811.11 per bag and N185.11per kg with a high efficiency level of 654%. The level of integration (0.415) between Awo and Enjema markets was significant 5%. Youth are encouraged to consider cashew nut marketing as an option to reduce unemployment and improve their welfare.

The study examined level of savings among maize farmers in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Nigeria. Multistage sampling procedure was used to select 80 respondents in the study area. Primary data were collected using well-structured  questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Multiple Linear Regression. The results show that half of the  respondents (50.0%) were within the age bracket of 21 - 40 years with a mean age of 42 years. Majority (83.8%) of the respondents were married. About 26.2% of the respondents had between 11 and 15 years of farming experience. More than half (56.2%) of the respondents belong to one cooperative association or another. Most of the respondents (81.2%) had access to extension contact with 46.3% of the respondents operating savings accounts with commercial banks. Household size (0.819**), farming experience (-0.589**), membership of association (-5.635**) and revenue from maize farming (0.00028**) were significant at 5% and constitute major determinants of savings in the study area. It is recommended that efforts should be made to increase earnings from maize farming through improved productivity by appropriate extension service. Also, savings with the financial institutions by the maize farmers should be encouraged through whittling down of administrative bottlenecks and, through extension of collateral-free credit facilities to them. The study focused on marketing and value of additions of timber in Ife East Local Government, Osun state Nigeria. Specifically, the study examined the market efficiency, determined the profitability of the timber business, examine the level of value addition and the constraints facing the timber industry. Data were collected with the use of primary and secondary data. Primary data needed for the study were generated from structured questionnaire. Fifteen sawmills were randomly selected and one hundred and fifty questionnaires were distributed to the timber marketer and furniture m firm. One hundred and forty eight were retrieved. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive and budgetary analyses. The result showed that males had the highest percentage (89.2%). Majority of the respondents were within the age range of 40 -50 years (83.8%) and most were married (81.8%) it was further revealed that (67.6%) had regular supply of their product and the means of transportation was lorry (44.6%). The study also revealed that benches with 42% added more value addition to the industry. It showed that the year 2013 had the highest efficiency with 2.6. The budgetary analysis showed that the average revenue for the industry for the year 2012-2018 ranged between N2, 285,108.45, 889,107.12. It also revealed that the total profit for the timber ranged between 7, 340, 54.59 and 2,304,897.47.government policy, inadequate facilities in the market, inadequate facilities in the market, inadequate credit facilities, inadequate power supply and high cost of transportation were some of the constraint faced by the timber industry in Ife East Local Government. The study investigated the prevalence of tick infestation among pet dogs in Jalingo Metropolis, Taraba State. The study area was fragmented into five study sites namely Kona, Magami Mayo-gwoi, Mile Six and Nukkai areas. Thirty samples were collected from each study sites using random sampling method. The prevalence of ticks infestation on dogs recorded was 80%. Prevalence was significantly different between the sites (χ2 = 13.333, p =0.0098). Amongst the tick genera observed, Ammblyomma had the highest prevalence, 44 (29.3%) followed closely by Ixodes spp., 41 (27.3%), and the least was Dermacentor, 33 (22.0%). Dogs of 108 (72.0%) of the respondent were vaccinated. Dogs of 82 (54.7%) of the respondents received treatment for diseases. Only 71 (47.3%)  respondents used medicated soap, acaricide or chemicals to control dog ectoparasites. Attitudes of dog owners contributes directly or indirectly to tick infestation of dogs in Jalingo metropolis.

This paper reports findings from a study carried out to investigate the profitability of snail marketing in Ibadan North East Local Government area of Oyo State. Structured questionnaires and interview schedules were designed to obtain information on socio-economic characteristics, operational capital and source, years of experience in the business and constraints to snail marketing. Seventy snail marketers, randomly selected from three major markets which are Oje, Agodi gate and Agugu market;. The data collected were analyzed using frequency table, percentage, gross margin, Benefit/ Cost ratio and Marketing Efficiency analyses. Majority (94.3%) of the respondents were female while 5.7% were male. 31.5% were between the ages of 51-60years with mean age of 54.9 years. It was also shown that 50% source their capital through personal savings between N11,000-N20,000 and 47.1% with 5-9years experience. The cost and return analysis revealed that total revenue was N1, 457,700.00k and total cost was N1, 285,320.00k while gross margin    was N172, 380.00k and benefit- cost ratio was 1.13 which implies that for every N1.00 invested the marketer will make a return of N1.13k on every snail sold, Marketing efficiency was 88%. Major constraints to snail marketing in the study area were poor market patronage (87.1%) and seasonality (82.9%). Snail farming is advocated since it is a profitable agribusiness and can be achieved through cooperatives and micro credit facilities. Also, marketing of snail in the area    should be restructured and standardized to command frequent patronage and command higher price value.

This study aims to analyze the characteristics of educated workforce and to determine the effect of variables of age, education, wage level, skills and gender on duration of looking for work by educated worker in Jambi City. The data used in this study are primary data obtained from questionnaires and direct interviews with a total sample of 110 respondents. Sampling in this study uses a multistage sampling method that is sampling in stages. Data analysis methods used are descriptive and quantitative analysis. The analytical tool used is the OLS (Ordinary Least Square) method. The results of this study indicate that the independent variables simultaneously have a significant effect on duration of looking for work. Partially the variables of age, education, wage level have a significant effect on duration of looking for work, while the skills and gender variables have no significant effect on the duration of looking for work.

The worsening state of poverty among rural farmers in Nigeria’s Cross River State has attracted great concern from government and its agencies but farmers’ perception of poverty and welfare is little understood. In this study, it was determined whether and how the social variables of income, healthcare and education affect farmers’ perception of poverty and welfare in Boki Local government area. Primary data were derived from one hundred (100) respondents, randomly drawn from the study area using standard questionnaires and analysed using the chi-square technique. There was a significant direct relationship between income level, health care, education and nutrition on one hand and welfare of farmers on the other. Evidence from this field study strongly suggests that poverty alleviation programmes and infrastructural projects should be extended to rural areas for improved welfare and livelihood. However, farmers do not necessarily perceive poverty based only on the variables studied.

The paper reviews research tradition of accessibility level and spatial distribution of student in public secondary school in gombe local government area, Gombe state. Primary and secondary data were used for the study. Primary data was collected using questionnaire and a hand-held GPS receiver to capture the coordinate points of schools and other relevant data. Secondary data include administrative map, population figures of both students and Teachers, Names and addresses of the secondary schools in the study area. The data were analyzed using geographic information techniques. From the data survey carried out, the result of the analysis showed the accessibility level and spatial distribution of school in Gombe were seventeen (17) public senior secondary and total number of students were nineteen thousand and eleven (19,011). The nearest neighbor analysis (NNA) for the spatial pattern of school were carried out based on each ward in study area which as ten (10) wards in each ward revealed two major spatial distributions. The spatial pattern of the Gombe LGA has Nearest Neighbour Ratio (NNR): 3.385087, Bolari East ward with NNR: 3.385087 and Shamaki wards NNR: 1.600148, which showed dispersed pattern, while Jekada Fari ward with NNR: 0.214890, Pantami ward with NNR: 0.226863, and Herwo Gana wards with NNR: 0.185239, were showed clustered pattern. The nearest neighbor index shows clustered pattern for all the wards in the local government area except Bolari East and Shamaki wards that has dispersed pattern of distribution. The implication of these two patterns means that accessibility is poor in the study area. Students travel than normal to overcome the function of distance.
