Technology has been successfully attracting human’s life, including in education. It can be seen that there are a lot of online learning especially in English language learning that can be accessed by everyone in everywhere. In Indonesian context, Ruangguru is an example of an online course that most popular used nowadays. This paper aims at exploring the way of teaching practices that used by teachers and challenges they faced in teaching English in Ruangguru. This study is a descriptive qualitative using interview as the instrument of data. The respondents of this present study are teachers who teach English from different level of students and learning programs that were chosen by snowball sampling. This study found that most of the teachers have similar methods of teaching such as preparing materials reading and having knowledge before delivering lesson to students. The teachers also faced corresponding challenges such as internet connection and difficult question that should be answered directly.

Since March 2020, the case of coronavirus disease or known as Covid-19, has become a global pandemic. According to UNESCO, schools are closed in about 100 countries due to a public health emergency, including Indonesia. The condition forces teachers to make the transition of the way they teach from face to face learning to online learning. This study investigated EFL teachers’ Perception of online English language learning. Their perceptions were analyzed in three aspects: perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and their attitude toward online English language learning. This study employed a descriptive design with a qualitative approach. A survey questionnaire and interview were used in this study to elicit the responses of 102 Junior High School English teachers in Bandung. This study's findings revealed that the participants showed a positive perception of the usefulness and ease of use of online learning systems during pandemic Covid-19. Still, more than half of the teachers didn’t agree on the effectiveness of it. Even though the teachers face many online teaching problems, they could show the right attitude toward using technology to teach online.

<p>This study examines the frequency and pattern of interpersonal interactions between the learners and instructors of an online English language learning course offered at a Vietnamese university. The paper begins with a review of literature on interaction type, pattern and model of interaction followed by a brief description of the online environment and its learners and instructors. The online messages extracted from the communication forums were analysed using simple descriptive statistics and content analysis techniques in the light of Salmon’s (2003) model of online teaching and learning to explore the frequency and pattern of interaction. The results of the study indicate that after a high level of engagement at the beginning of the course, the learners’ interaction dropped and different patterns interaction were found in the three communication forums of the online course.</p>

Non formal education is an important education type that helps the availability and continuity of education where formal schooling is not available. English language learning assumes a significant role in the National Educational program. Despite its importance, English Language learning is a problematic area for learners in the formal and non-formal education systems. This research intends to explore the importance of using mobile assisted language learning (MALL) in non-formal English language environments in Pakistan. The population of this research comes from various institutions all over Punjab, Pakistan, where 60 non - formal learners were chosen through simple random sampling method. The research design was experimental whereas test (pre and post) was used as a tool to collect data. The findings present that MALL created a significant impact on English Language learning of non-formal learners. It further ascertained that MALL can be an attractive and result oriented method in non-formal settings.

Purpose of the study: The purpose of this study is to explore the merits and demerits of a formative assessment technique used in an English language learning program in Sindh. The teachers teaching the English language to the students of rural Sindh in an English language program implemented a formative assessment technique and in the end, shared their views about the effectiveness of the program. Methodology: The research is based on a qualitative method. Formative assessment was conducted in a language teaching program in rural Sindh. At the end of the program, 6 male and 12 female teachers, who were selected on purposive sampling method, participated in a focused group interview to share their views about the merits and demerits of the formative assessment technique. The data was analyzed using content and thematic analysis. Main Findings: The merits of the formative assessment technique used were reported as helpful in identifying the learning gaps, providing constructive feedback, identifying the students’ strengths, empowering the teachers, and creating a stress-free assessment. Similarly, the demerits were reported as being time-consuming, unconventional assessment strategies, and creating a lack of professional development to adopting a new strategy. Applications of this study: Many language teachers regularly implement formative assessment in their language classrooms and are always in search of some good material to make their formative assessment more fruitful and result-oriented. This study will be useful for such teachers. They can benefit from the findings of the study and improvise their method of formative assessment. Novelty/Originality of this study: The study is one of its kinds using the teachers’ perspectives to explore the effectiveness of drawbacks of formative assessment technique. People who have recently joined the teaching fraternity must be inquisitive about various techniques of assessment. This study is going to assist them in not only deciding whether they want to implement formative assessment in class, but it will also prepare them in advance to encounter the limitations of formative assessment and take necessary measures to address these limitations.

This paper aims to analyse the instructional syntax for an online learning environment in English language learning. The data collection used lesson plans in a Spain-based English Academy. The research method used Hemphill’s engagement criteria to find the syntax characteristic in the lesson plans instructions. Also, the study analysed the factors of engagement during the learning session. The study revealed the frequencies of the instructional syntax used by EFL teachers and how these instructions engage the students. The lessons plans were coded to find the most syntax used and the engagement criteria. The result identified ‘ask’ is the most used syntax with 15.3% while inquiries method  (38.9%) was using the most in teaching students online. Moreover, the distribution item of engagement factors as EFL online teachers’ focus group discussion shows how the engagement model can be used for English learners. This study will contribute as an expanding method of English language learning in an online setting widely.

The present study discusses Muslim religious scholars' attitudes in the sub-continent when it was under British rulers' influence.The study focuses on the causes of religious scholars' indifference and their hostile attitudes towards the English language in the pre-partition era. The data has been collected from various fatawa books written by Muslim religious scholars during the pre-partition period. Researchersanalyse the fatawas (religious decrees) under the paradigm of Islam and English language and attitudes of religious scholars in the pre-partition era.The fatawashas been examined through a content analysis of the text. The study's findings reveal that Muslim religious scholars wereagainst English language learning and teaching to such an extent that they issued Fatawas declaring that learning and teaching English was illegitimate (Najaiz) because they believed that Christian missionaries were against Muslims and Islam. Thefindingsfurther suggest that future English language curriculum planning should considersociety's cultural and religious requirements so that everyone in the community can learn English according to their needs. The study also highlightsculturalharmonyfrom the perspectiveofEnglish languagelearning.

<p>For effective language learning and teaching, both learners' skills and assumptions should gain enough interest from their teachers. For the sake of that idea, students should have the opportunity to express their preferences regarding the ways of teaching and learning English language. Having in mind the idea that learners' preferences of the ways of teaching English language are vital importance their learning, we asked students at an English language department in a Jordanian private university to state their views on how they prefer to learn English. As a further step, teachers working at the same department with the same students were also asked to express their views regarding the extent of their awareness of their students' learning preferences. The data obtained uncovered significant results suggesting a need for a closer cooperation and collaboration among students and their teachers concerning how English language learning activities should be re-arranged and implemented in the classroom.</p>

Interaction plays a critical role in both traditional and online learning processes. For online learners of English, interaction with the course content is especially vital because it provides them with necessary knowledge in language competence and contributes to the success of online learning. This paper presents the findings of a study about learner-content interaction in an online English language learning course implemented at a university in Vietnam. The study findings reveal that the learners were confident in using the online course, but they did not particularly appreciate its usefulness. The study suggests that in the context where online language learning is at infancy like Vietnam, providing continuous technical support is crucial to promote autonomous learning.

The purpose of this study is to discover, describe and explain the development model of character-based English language in senior high schools to improve student’s achievement. This study is designed to approach research and development, the research is followed up by studying, investigating, and understanding as well as how the model-based development of English Language learning character develop. The sample of the study consists of 30 teachers who are taken from 8 senior high schools in Banda Aceh that have the same background and characteristics. To produce a model of teaching English in senior high schools in Banda Aceh, the model is conducted systematic steps in the form of the process of action, reflection, evaluation, and innovation. The method used is direct observation, questionnaires, interviews, seminars, and development. Furthermore, this research is expected to produce English language-based learning model character in accordance with the national culture.

This article presents the results of analyzing data extracted from the learning management system of an online English language learning course delivered at a university in Hanoi. Using quantitative analytical method, the author investigated the level of interaction between the students of two English departments of the university with content of the online course. The study results show that the completion rates for the students were high and that there were not many differences in the scores for the start tests, end-of-lesson tests and average scores for the practices between students of the two departments. The study results also indicate that there is a relationship between the average scores of doing the practices and those of the start/end-of-lesson tests. It can be suggested that instructors of the course should urge and encourage learners to complete all the practices in a more serious manner for better quality of online learning.
