Owing, in our opinion, to faulty classification and terminology of bacterial types, it is very common, especially on the Continent and, to a lesser extent, in U.S.A., to ascribe outbreaks of food poisoning to B. paratyphosus B, the common cause of paratyphoid fever. If such a conception is true, it is obvious that B. paratyphosus B can at one time cause paratyhpoid fever, at another an outbreak of food poisoning. Further, one would expect in outbreaks of either condition that some cases would be of the one clinical type while others would exhibit the other. In particular in outbreaks of paratyphoid fever in which the vehicle of infection was some form of food, it is to be anticipated, on this view, that a considerable proportion of the cases would be of acute food poisoning type.

Women are the pioneers and key to sustainable development and quality of life in the family. Hindu culture respects women as Goddess due to this power of creativity of life inside her womb. This energy of procreation starts with menarche and ends with menopause. Ayurveda focusses on preventive and curative measures of female health. Acharya Charak mentioned “Yonishu Shuddhasu Garbham Vindati Yoshitaha” i.e., normal healthy status of Yoni (vagina) is the key factor for achieving the conception. Various gynaecological disorders like Yoni Rogas, Artava Doshas and Raktapradar hampers the achievement of conception. Raktapradar i.e., excessive excretion of men- strual blood, either in quantity or in duration is explained in Ayurvedic Classics. It is the common cause of Iron deficiency anemia & general debility. Ayurvedic intervention mentioned can be recommended as safer, feasible and effective therapy for management of Raktapradar. Keywords: Shudha Yoni, Yoni Roga, Artava Dosha, Raktapradar.

Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB), which is defined as excessively heavy, prolonged and/or frequent bleeding of uterine origin, is a frequent cause of visits to the Emergency Department and/or health care provider. While there are many etiologies of AUB, the one most likely among otherwise healthy adolescents is dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB), which is characterizing any AUB when all possible underlying pathologic causes have been previously excluded. The most common cause of DUB in adolescence is anovulation, which is very frequent in the first 2-3 post-menarchal years and is associated with immaturity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis. Management of AUB is based on the underlying etiology and the severity of the bleeding and primary goals are prevention of complications, such as anemia and reestablishment of regular cyclical bleeding, while the management of DUB can in part be directed by the amount of flow, the degree of associated anemia, as well as patient and family comfort with different treatment modalities. Treatment options for DUB are: combined oral contraceptives (COCs), progestogens, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), tranexamic acid (anti-fibrinolytic), GnRH analogues, Danazol and Levonorgestrel releasing intra uterine system (LNG IUS).

Context: Warts are one of the common diseases in India. There are various modalities used for the treatment of warts. Very few studies have been done which compare the efficacy of topical salicylic acid and 5-Fluorouracil cream in warts patients. Aim: To compare the efficacy of topical salicylic acid ointment and 5% 5-fluorouracil cream in warts patients. Settings and Design: Completely randomized design. Methods and Material: Total 300 clinically diagnosed patients of warts which were divided into three groups (each contains 100 patients) depending on the treatment modalities which includes modality I treated with 16% salicylic acid, modality II treated with 5% 5-fluorouracil and modality III treated with the combination of 16% salicylic acid and 5% 5-fluorouracil. The evaluation of therapy was done by estimating the reduction in wart volume, complete regression of lesion, absence of recurrence of treated lesion after 3 months follow up. Statistical analysis used: Significant conclusion was drawn after applying the one way Anova test of significance. Results and conclusion: In Modality III, 99.95 % clearance was seen in warts volume at 12 weeks of treatment followed by Modality I (99.67% clearance in warts volume) and Modality II (99.31% clearance in warts volume) which were statistically significant at p value <0.01 level. Combination of 5-Fluorouracil and 16% salicylic acid is best for the treatment of warts with maximum recovery from warts with minimum adverse effect.

ABSTRACT Bilateral vocal cord paralysis is the one of the common childhood laryngeal lesions. The treatment modalities include interim tracheostomy and, where needed, permanent irreversible procedures. We report a case of idiopathic bilateral vocal cord palsy in a child, which was managed effectively by the procedure of suture lateralization of the vocal cord. The procedure, its rarity and follow-up of our case is described. How to cite this article Bhate JJ, Menon UK, Madhumita K. A Stitch in Time. Int J Phonosurg Laryngol 2013;3(1):31-33.

Sugar is one of the most important elements in human nutrition. The Common Market Organisation for sugar has been a subject of considerable debate since its establishment in 1968. The European agricultural market has been criticized for its heavy regulations and subsidization. The sugar market is one of the most regulated ones; however, this will change radically in 2017 when the current system of production quotas will end. The current EU sugar market changed is structure during the last several decades. The significant number of companies left the market and EU internal sugar market became more concentrated. The aim of this paper is presentation characteristics of sugar market with respect to the supposed market failure – reduction in competition. The analysis also identifies the main drivers and determinants of the EU especially quota sugar market. In relation to paper’s aim the following results are important. The present conditions of the European sugar market have led to market failure when nearly 75 % (10 million tonnes) of the quota is controlled by five multinational companies only. These multinational alliances (especially German and French one) are also taking control over the production capacities of their subsidiaries. In most countries, this causes serious problems as the given quota is controlled by one or two producers only. This is a significant indicator of market imperfection. The quota system cannot overcome the problem of production quotas on the one hand and the demand on the other; furthermore, it also leads to economic inefficiency. The current EU sugar market is under the control of only Sudzucker, Nordzucker, Pfeifer and Langen, Tereos and ABF.

Subject. The study addresses the improvement of risk management efficiency and the quality of lending decisions made by banks. Objectives. The aim is to present the bank management with a fair algorithm for risk management motivation on the one hand, and the credit management (business) on the other hand. Within the framework of the common goal to maximize risk-adjusted income from loans, this algorithm will provide guidelines for ‘risk management’ and ‘business’ functions on how to improve individual and overall efficiency. Methods. The study employs the discriminant analysis, type I and II errors, Lorentz curve modeling, statistical analysis, economic modeling. Results. The paper offers a mechanism for assessing the quality of risk management decisions as opposed to (or in support of) decisions of the lending business when approving transactions. The mechanism rests on the approach of stating type I and II errors and the corresponding classical metric of the Gini coefficient. On the ‘business’ side, the mechanism monitors the improvement or deterioration of the indicator of changes in losses in comparison with the market average. Conclusions. The study substantiates the stimulating ‘rules of the game’ between the ‘business’ and ‘risk management’ to improve the efficiency of the entire business, to optimize interactions within the framework of internal competition. It presents mathematical tools to calculate corresponding indicators of the efficiency of internally competing entities.

The typology of rationality is one of major issues of modern philosophy. In an attempt to provide a typology to Oriental materials, a researcher faces additional problems. The diversity of the Orient as such poses a major challenge. When we say “Oriental,” we mean several cultures for which we cannot find a common denominator. The concept of “Orient” involves Arabic, Indian, Chinese, Turkish and other cultures, and the only thing they share is that they are “non-Western.” Moreover, even if we focus just on Islamic culture and look into rationality in this context, we have to deal with a conglomerate of various trends, which does not let us define, with full confidence, a common theoretical basis and treat them as a unity. Nevertheless, we have to go on trying to find common directions in thought development, so as to draw conclusions about types of rationality possible in Islamic culture. A basis for such a typology of rationality in the context of the Islamic world was recently suggested in A.V. Smirnov’s logic of sense theory. However, actual empiric material cannot always fit theoretical models, and the cases that do not fit the common scheme are interesting per se. On the one hand, examination of such cases gives an opportunity to specify certain provisions of the theory and, on the other hand, to define the limits of its applicability.
