TRACES OF EVERYDAY OF SMALLS BACKCOUNTRY IN THE GEOGRAPHY CLASS AT A PEASANT SCHOOL IN BAHIA ABSTRACT This article aims to elucidate the realization of a pedagogical practice of teaching Geography in a peasant school in the interior of Bahia in the year 2018, being that the small peasant students who made up the 6th grade class at this institution produced, in the discipline class, drawings of the local backcountry space starting from their homes to the school where they studied, in an attempt to reflect the contents that were being worked on in class: orientation and location in the production of the agrarian space. Thus, we propose to analyzes about the teaching of Geography in the struggle for field education by describing the practice in question. We understand that same being a simple action developed in the classroom, in which the peasant students traced the daily life in the backcountry that they live through illustrations, the same became significant to them in understanding the transformations that are established in the field in a contextualized, when studying the space in which they are inserted, so much at that moment how much during the school year. In view of this reality, it is necessary that we fight in defense of a school geography in the field, ruled for the human emancipation of social subjects peasant in their territories of life and of work. The author’s goal is to justify the contextual approach to studying the works of A.A. Akhmatova at school basing on the features of the poet’s oeuvre, as well as the tasks that a teacher of literature faces today: the development of logical and metaphorical thinking, interpretative abilities, interest in the subject, and formation of cultural memory. The presented materials are based on the analysis of the research that reflects the leading trends in the field of methods of teaching literature, and the results of pedagogical practice. We propose planning lessons on the work of A.A. Akhmatova in the light of intertextual links, examples of tasks for each of the topics, and we also suggest one of the possible options for comparative analysis based on the method of slow reading of poems by A.A. Akhmatova and A.S. Pushkin. Methodological materials were tested in school and gymnasium practice of teaching the subject «Literature» and confirmed their effectiveness.

The main objective of the Cornell Solar Oven Team is to help communities in the developing world design solar cookers appropriate for their specific cultural, social, economic, and environmental conditions. Food is not only a basic human need, but also a culturally important part of daily life. Thus, we seek to implement solar cookers in a way that is not only environmentally sustainable but also culturlly sensitive. During the 2005-2006 school year our team’s work focused on three main areas: the development and solidification of contacts with new partner organizations, parametric testing of previously constructed solar ovens, and the development of new solar oven designs. The work completed during the fall semester allowed us to produce an effective plan for the development of solar ovens. During spring of 2006, we cultivated a relationship with a new partner organization, Grupo Fenix, in Nicaragua. This connection facilitated the team’s visit to Nicaragua, during which the team had the opportunity to experience the technical and social aspects of solar oven use in the developing world first-hand.

Education gains importance in the constitution of society, influencing economic and power relations and, in the humanistic dimension, it contributes to the incorporation of ethical and sensitive principles, expanding a more inclusive and emancipatory worldview. However, respect for diversity is still a challenge and there is a need for school institutions whose projects operate in different perspectives, among them in the countryside. This article aims to present aspects of rural education, understanding its peculiarities and correlating them to the Pedagogical Political Project of a country school, unveiling what is established (or not) as the purpose of a rural pedagogical practice. The methodology is based on a qualitative analysis, with a bibliographic and documentary approach. The results show a conception of rural education that is attentive to the needs of the rural community and that the pedagogical project of the investigated College, in general, converges with this conception. It was concluded that school education in the countryside needs to ensure specificities in its pedagogical project, respecting practices typical of the daily life of these rural communities and, thus, carrying out a humanistic and emancipatory process of the subjects.

This chapter provides key information about a growing population of English language learners (ELLs) in United States classrooms: unaccompanied minors from the Northern Triangle nations of Central America. Part one provides contextual information about unaccompanied minors, including a description of the immigration process that channels children from detention facilities along the U.S.-Mexico border to communities—and classrooms—across the country. Part two draws on empirical data gathered through an ethnographic case study conducted across the 2015–2016 school year and focuses on one pedagogical practice, dialogue journaling, in a classroom serving unaccompanied minors with limited and interrupted formal schooling. Part three provides a list of resources for exploring the topic further including materials that provide a deeper understanding of the sociopolitical contexts in which children cross borders as well as practice-oriented materials teachers can use to create welcoming classroom spaces in which they provide culturally relevant, linguistically accessible instruction.

Purpose: U.S. schools have traditionally been characterized by teacher privacy and independence, yet theory and empirical work suggest that peer observation and support—or “de-privatized instruction”—can help improve pedagogical practice. In this study, we investigate whether the introduction of video technology into a school—through a video-based teacher evaluation system called Best Foot Forward (BFF)—led to instructional de-privatization, even in the absence of program components designed to encourage de-privatization. Research Method: Eighty-five schools were randomly assigned to BFF or a control condition. After one school year, teachers and administrators completed Web-based surveys about their experiences. Findings: We find that BFF caused administrators to facilitate more peer support among teachers, made teachers more likely to share lesson videos with colleagues, led teachers to have more of their lessons seen by other teachers, and redistributed which teachers were providing instructional support to colleagues (with relatively newer teachers taking on a larger role in providing peer support). Implications: Results suggest that video technology may be an effective tool for efforts to improve instruction by increasing peer observation and support.

Thus, the central problem of the research is: What are the initial conceptions of students of the 1st year of High School on the relevance of the curricular component of Chemistry? The research was carried out with students from three classes of the 1st year of High School, totaling 69 participants, with a mean age of 16 years, belonging to a state public school in the region of Vale do Sinos, RS, Brazil. For data collection, the teacher asked the students: How relevant do you perceive in chemistry? It should be noted that the questioning was done in writing in the first week of class in the 2016 school year, before the professor of chemistry began to work with the planned the course for that year. The collected material was analyzed through Discursive Textual Analysis, (MORAES; GALIAZZI, 2013). With the analysis it was possible to understand that the students pointed out different conceptions about the relevance of the curricular component of Chemistry. It is believed that such conceptions were constructed through school experiences, during the previous school years and emphasised in the 9th year of Elementary School, where the Science component covers topics related to Chemistry, or even, from the daily life of these students. The collected data can help the teachers from this subject to develop more effective practices that allow students to understand the real function and relevance of the study of Chemistry as a science. Keywords: Basic education.
