Improvement of sanitation, environment and clean water, will substantially reduce the level of pain and severity of various diseases that can improve the degree of public health. But Indonesia still faces Open Defecation Free (ODF) which pollutes the environment. Indonesia ranks second after India (626 million people) as the country with the most ODF, which were 63 million people. In Serang Municipality, Banten Province, there are still 27.2% of people doing defecation in rivers, rice fields and others. The important factor causing it is the habit. The purpose of this paper is to discuss health promotion strategies consisting of advocacy efforts, social support and community empowerment in improving the quality of sanitation in Serang Municipality. The data is the result of group research conducted by researchers at the Research Center of the Expertise Agency of the DPR RI. The study was conducted in Serang Municipality in March 2019. Apart from the habitual problem, there are still many people who defecate in the absence of hygienic toilet facilities at home and ineffective communal toilet programs. The difficulty of getting clean water in the Serang Municipality has caused people further reluctant to make and use healthy latrines. The local government has implemented a health promotion strategy which includes advocacy for DPR and DPRD members to prioritize sanitation issues in Serang Municipality; increase social support from community leaders and conduct community empowerment.

Abstract Background The main burden of global morbidity comes from non-communicable diseases (NCDs). As recent data shows, almost 97% of mortality is caused by NCDs in Georgia. According to the WHO, Georgia has one of the highest smoking prevalence in Europe. Effective health promotion strategies are crucial to prevent chronic diseases and to improve health education. The main aim of this scoping review was to analyse the literature on health promotion strategies in Georgia, as well as to provide an overview of current initiatives and activities. Methods Medline and PubMed databases, as well as official government documents and grey literature where used to identify relevant literature. We finalised search by September 2019. Results Our study showed that the Formation of Health Care sector started in 1995 and since then, health promotion has been an important component of Public Health in the country. Moreover, four out of eight main goals of the 'Millennium Development Goals in Georgia' address health issues. Implementation of state programs and public health measures in the field of public health remains a main priority for the 'National Center for Disease Control and Public Health' (NCDC). Working areas of the center include development of health promotion, disease prevention strategies and programs. Currently, the NCDC is implementing nine state programs with this regard. However, our analyses showed that improvement of population's health is a complex process and requires coordinated actions by involving the following sectors: government, health, social and economic, NGOs, local municipalities, media and industrial sectors, health researchers and civil society. Conclusions Our study clearly demonstrates that health promotion strategies are essential for the improvement of nation's general health and welfare. However, increasing tendency of NCDs in the country requires the strengthening of existing programs as well as developing and implementing new strategies. Key messages The health promotion strategy, with its multi-component and multilateral nature, has the greatest potential to improve public health in Georgia. Strategies are particularly effective when it is strengthened by other actions, including partnership, community and intersectional involvement in decision-making.

Community-Led Total Sanitation (CTLS) is an approach to transform hygienic and sanitary behaviors. There are five pillar of CLTS is Open Defecation Free (ODF), wash hand wih soap, food and beverage management, waste management and management of household waste. The phenomenon that occurre in the kelurahan Kejawan Putih Tambak is still there are 14 of 1.697 houses which do not have a healthy latrine and drain household wastewater into the river. This study examined the health promotion strategy of the CTLS program in kelurahan Kejawan Putih Tambak. This study is a qualitative research with participatory methode and analyzed descriptively. CTLS has five pillars that need to be achieved by the community. In kelurahan Kejawan Putih Tambak pillar of Open Defecation Free (ODF) and pillar of household liquid waste safe management have not been achieved optimally. It is caused by the lack of a policy and there is no a firm commitment to the perpetrators who dispose feces into the river. Moreover, there is no law enforcement as well and no commitment to collect public dues facilitated by the government or private to create appropriate latrine. Therefore, it is necessary to draft new strategies by giving sanction to open defecation perpetrators. making law enforcement, improving community awareness and making commitment to build communal wastewater installation.

Gender-transformative approaches (i.e., approaches that support male-identified individuals to critique and resist stereotypical male gender role norms that negatively affect health and well-being) are increasingly recognized as a key health promotion strategy. However, there is limited evidence to date on gender-transformative interventions for male-identified adolescents. In addition, given the dynamic and socially constructed nature of gender, methods beyond quantitative data collection are needed to gain a holistic understanding of promising gender-transformative health promotion approaches. One newer method to capture lived experiences with adolescents is photo-based evaluation, where youth program participants take pictures to represent their knowledge, attitudes, and/or behaviors before and after a program. The present study presents findings from the photo-based evaluation of a gender-transformative health promotion program called WiseGuyz. WiseGuyz is offered to mid-adolescent, male-identified youth in school and community settings, and is designed to promote mental and sexual health and prevent violence. Six youth photographers from a rural Canadian setting took part in this evaluation, taking photos to represent what being a guy in their world meant before and after WiseGuyz. Youth then participated in an individual visual storytelling interview and a group-based photovoice process. Key themes in relation to masculinities that emerged from these data were around changes to (1) social norms and (2) emotionality following program participation, and the need for a safe program space to support these changes. This study adds to literature demonstrating the promise of gender-transformative approaches with adolescents, with implications for future health promotion research and practice with male-identified youth.
