Children are an age group who adapts very well to the stimuli what they receive from their environment, such as movies and games. Unfortunately, entertainment these days contains many negative messages that has an impact on the erosion of moral values, which are, then implemented in the form of negative thought patterns and behaviors. The purpose of this research is to examine how children's entertainment media can be educational, entertaining, and easy to understand with a case study of the animated tv series ‘Riko: Jarak Matahari dan Bumi’This research was studied using the method of pragmatic semiotics initiated by Charles Sanders Peirce by analyzing semiotic elements, then validated with the psychological theory of child development. The results of the analysis show that the semiotic elements presented in ‘‘Riko: Jarak Matahari dan Bumi’ are in line with the psychological principles of child development.

This chapter takes a look at how entertainment media can evoke powerful emotions in youth (as well as adults). How is it that entertainment media can make children and teens fearful, agitated, and even sad—all while they know they are seeing fictional content? And does the experience of emotion differ across childhood, or is it, perhaps, more universal? To answer these and other questions, the chapter reviews key theories on emotion and discusses the role of child development in the experience of media-induced emotions, using fear as a case study. Finally, it reviews the tragedy paradox: why do we often enjoy watching horror movies and tearjerkers even though they make us feel afraid or sad?

Research aims to know denotative and connotative meaning of the attributes used by female members of House of Representatives as an integrated signifier and signified in their appeance. In terms of the research context “performance” was “sign” itself, by seeking the new structure existing in the attribute of their appearance. Attribute denotative meaning is the overall objects seemed. Connotative meaning is the meaning existing fits to the context of local culture, within it loads particular human being expression individually. The method used in the study is inductive-posteriori-explorative-qualitative, with a case study using semiotic analysis of communication led to internalization of the researcher towards the phenomenon of attributes used by the female members of the House of Representatives. The choice and use of attributes in each appearance can be used to give impressions used an anchor by the researcher to provide further interpretation of the attributes worn. This study took the paradigm theory of Ferdinand de Saussure and Charles Sanders Peirce to see through its problems in the field. The result is Saussure’s view is able to reconstruct all objects visible to the researcher. Similarly, Peirce's view has three major characteristics that are capable of being a mirror to see the reality in the field. The results showed an attempt to reconstruct the understanding of semiotics and attributes as a form of nonverbal communication message. The study concludes the denotative meaning of attributes can provide communication and connotative message over the attributes used by female members of the Parliament.

At the turn of the 20th century, children's play came under new and heightened scrutiny by urban reformers. As conditions in US cities threatened traditional notions of order, reformers sought new ways to direct urban-social development. In this paper I explore playground reform as an institutional response that aimed to produce and promote ideal gender identities in children. Supervised summer playgrounds were established across the United States as a means of drawing children off the street and into a corrective environment. Drawing from literature published by the Playground Association of America and a case study of playground management in Cambridge, MA, I explore playground training as a means of constructing gender identities in and through public space. Playground reformers asserted, drawing from child development theory, that the child's body was a conduit through which ‘inner’ identity surfaced. The child's body became a site through which gender identities could be both monitored and produced, compelling reformers to locate playgrounds in public, visible settings. Reformers' conviction that exposing girls to public vision threatened their development motivated a series of spatial restrictions. Whereas boys were unambiguously displayed to public audiences, girls' playgrounds were organised to accommodate this fear. Playground reformers' shrewd spatial tactics exemplify the ways in which institutional authorities conceive of and deploy space toward the construction of identity.

Abstract How the self perceives reality is a traditional topic of research across several disciplines. I examine the perceived self on Facebook, as a case-study of self-knowledge on „classical” social media. Following Blascovich & Bailenson (2011), I consider the distinction between the real and the virtual as relative. Perceptual self-knowledge, filtered through social media, requires rethinking the perceived self in terms of social reality (Neisser, 1993). This claim dovetails Jenkins’s (2013) notion of the self as an active participant in consumption. I argue that the perceived self in social media could be conceived in terms of how it would like to be perceived and appraised by its virtual audience. Using Neisser’s (1993) typology of self-knowledge and Castañeda’s (1983) theory of I-guises, I analyse seven samples from Anglo-American and Bulgarian Facebook sites and show that the perceived self produces itself online as a captivating presence with a credible story. My samples are taken from FB community pages with negligible cultural differences across an online teenage/twens (twixter) age group. I then discuss some problematic aspects of the perceived self online, as well as recent critiques of technoconsumerism.

Abstract: This paper investigated if Spanish consumers would be willing to consume vitamin D-enhanced pork meat from animals fed on mushrooms treated with ultraviolet (UV) light. The questionnaire briefly explained the context of the study (vitamin D deficiency) and asked the consumers to choose answers with which they were most in agreement (non-enriched meat, enriched meat with synthetic vitamin D or enriched meat with vitamin D from UV-irradiated mushrooms). A survey was conducted to 400 non-vegan nor vegetarian consumers in Aragón (Spain) by direct invitation. Sampling was carried out in a random and stratified manner, by province, gender and age group using the Aragón population data for 2017 (INE). Some sociodemographic, health and consumption habit data were requested. Most consumers preferred non-enriched meat. Treatment with UV-irradiated mushrooms was rejected by most consumers, and the consumers who presented any willingness to buy meat enriched with UV-irradiated mushrooms were in the youngest age group.
