The article highlights one of the most typical features of G.G. Byron’s individual style, particularly, the use of a great variety of phraseological units in his works. The basic layer of Byron’s literary vocabulary includes phraseological units derived from the Bible and Greek mythology. The present article focuses on the problem of translatability of the so-called “Byronic” phraseological units in his narrative poem Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage. It is an acknowledged fact that Byron’s works are translated into numerous languages and the Armenian translations have their special place among them. The eminent Armenian writer H.Tumanyan succeeded in finding the best equivalents of “Byronic” phraseological units that not only sound convincing, truthful and colourful, but also very often enrich both the source and the target languages.

В этих статьях будут пересмотрены существующие русские переводы«Глав о ведении», предложены историкофилологические комментарии к тексту, а также представлен оригинальный текст глав по их известным рукописям. В статье представлен набор сирийского текста по рукописи Oxford, Bodleian Library, Ms syr. e. 7 и пересмотренный русский перевод С. С. Туркина глав 1-10 из первой сотницы, сопровождаемый комментариями. The present paper opens a series of articles that will precede the critical edition of the «Chapters on Knowledge» of Isaac of Nineveh (to be published in «The Bible and Christian Antiquity. Supplementum» book series). In these articles, all the existing Russian translations of the «Chapters on Knowledge» will be revised; further, there will be provided a critical edition of the chapters based on all the known manuscripts, as well as historical and philological notes to the text. In the present article, the Syriac text of the chapters 1-10 against the Oxford, Bodleian Library, Ms syr. e. 7, as well as the revised version of Sergey Turkin’s Russian translation are provided.

The present article deals with the problem of defining the essence of artistic translation as the specific type of discourse and conducting such interpretation of intersubjectivity as the principle of discourse theory refers to the translator’s role and importance (‘translator icon’) within the scope of artistic translation. As the object of this study, artistic translation differs from the other types of translation by its creativeness. Creativeness of artistic translation should be considered as the interrelation of the concepts of ‘translator icon’ as well as translation style. ‘Translator icon’ is believed to be precisely revealed in translation style. According to the fact, that the research is being conducted on the basis of interdisciplinary methodology, it is very important to determine more precisely the research aspects related to the artistic translation as discourse phenomenon. ‘Translator icon’ and translation style concepts are implied here, of course. While determining translation as well as artistic translation, the modern theory of discourse should be taken into account. Correspondingly, translation should be considered as the type of discourse and artistic translation as the sub-type of this latter one. Thus, in the research process, it is very necessary to highlight the discourse principle such as intersubjectivity that implies the communicative relation between the addresser (the sender of information) and the addressee (the recipient of the information). In conclusion, it is possible to be said, that a) artistic translation differs from the other types of translation with its creativeness, b) according to the fact, that creative act implies the creator’s individual style, artistic translation is characterized with its individual creative style as well, c) it was essential to connect the concept of translation style to the concept of ‘translator icon’; d) artistic translation differs from the other types of discourse with its very peculiarity of specific realisation of the principle of intersubjectivity: within its frame the translator is at the same time the adressser and the addressee as well.

The present article examines the complex and constantly developing relations between characteristics typical of academic discourse and individual style. The analysis has been conducted from the diachronic perspective since it compares the argumentative styles of various authors in different stages of the development of English academic and particularly of economic discourse. Analyzing the authorial identity as an element of discourse identity in the works of two celebrated scholars Robert Boil and John M. Mains, the article demonstrates how the leading scholars contribute to the establishment of new principles of academic discourse overcoming the barrier between the established norms and authorial preferences.

Many of the pioneers and settlers who came to America held the Bible in their right hands and were strongly inspired by this “Good Book.” They believed they had come to the “New Promised Land,” and consequently gave Biblical names to the new towns and villages, as well as to their children. It was, therefore, almost natural that the remote land in the east, known as the Holy Land, Palestine, the Promised Land, or The Land of Israel, had, and probably still has, a very special place in American culture and society.

Interpersonal transformation of pastors – the paradox of emotional trauma as source to healingThis article reflects upon the way in which the interplay between reason and emotion influences pastors’ lives and ministry. It studies the process of inner transformation as a meaningful way for pastors to become ‘healed healers’. Inner transformation is described in terms of Aristotle’s phronēsis and Paul Ricoeur’s movement from mimēsis1 to mimēsis3. The article agrues that ‘healing’ in no way purports that pastors are able to heal others in a literal sense, but merely that by being conscious of their own wounds, pastors can experience the paradox that their own wounds could become a source of healing. This approach to woundedness is interpreted from two distinct perspectives. Firstly, it is seen from the perspective of Jesus as the human face of God. Jesus’ emotional disposition towards the nobodies of his time is seen as paradigmatic for pastors’ relationships with others. Secondly, woundedness is seen within the context of the metaphor of the wounded healer as narrated in ancient Greek mythology, and used by Carl Jung in a psychiatric setting. It is not only pastors’ knowledge of the Bible, theological tradition and different pastoral and other therapeutic theories, models and methods that facilitates meaningful interaction between themselves and others. Central to pastors’ role as wounded healers is their conscious acknowledgement of their own humanity and therefore their own woundedness.

Aemilia Bassano Lanier was partially of Jewish origin and came from a Venetian family of court musicians. She was brought up in the court and was educated by Countess Susan Bertie and the Duchess of Suffolk. Her work entitled Salve Deus Rex Judaeorum is a long narrative poem articulating a woman-centred account of the Bible. As a woman of partial Jewish descent, Aemilia, who has ‘a voice of her own’, deals with the maltreatment of women and compares them to Christ in their silent suffering. At her time, women were often expected to be silent within society, creating an absence rooted in their lack of voice. Both Christ and women sacrifice themselves for the betterment of mankind. This article will deal with Aemilia Lanier’s new perspective upon biblical women and the Passion of Christ as reflected in Salve Deus Rex Judaeorum.

This article develops the notion that poetry is crucially distinguished from other forms of verbal art by its foregrounding of segmentivity, the spacing of language. If a measure is regarded as the smallest unit of resistance to meaning, measure determines where gaps open up in a poetic text. Poetry is, however, not only measured, but typically countermeasured and narrative in poetry can also be countermeasured against the segmentation that is specific to narrative. The present article investigates segmentivity in one particular type of narrative poem, namely poems in discontinuous stanzaic forms. The concept of affordances (referring to different potentials for use) is applied to the stanzaic form in Edmund Spenser’s “The faerie queene” (1590; 1596) and to the “ottava rima” stanza, as exemplified by Kenneth Koch’s postmodernist narrative poem, “Seasons on earth” (1960; 1977; 1987).

AbstractFollowing the Seljuk invasion of the 11th century, the Armenians and Iranians found themselves under one rule, and the ancient historical and cultural ties between these two neighbouring nations became once again close and versatile. The similarity of their historical destinies appears to be more evident in the 13th-14th centuries, when Armenia and Iran were incorporated in the Mongol Empire.Among the Sāhīb Dīvāns, the highest ranking officials in the hierarchical system of the Īl-khānid state, a special place belongs to Šams ad-dīn Muhammad Juvainī, famous for his civilised personality and attainments. The present article tries to elucidate those details of the biography of Javainī, which concern Armenia and Armenian-Iranian relations of his time. Along with the Armenian and Persian sources, the author has made extensive use of the data obtained from the Georgian chronicles, which considerably improve the picture of the historical reality.

El presente artículo de investigación, es origen del análisis realizado a las principales posturas que difieren entre el sistema comunista y el capitalista como elementos decisorios en una integración regional. En este artículo, se realiza un riguroso y amplio análisis de uno de dos temas esencialmente controvertido, la religión y el comunismo. El objetivo no consiste en reprochar la tendencia atea de los marxistas y/o comunistas, sino en demostrar que las principales posturas del comunismo van en contra de lo establecido por Dios, Jehová; motivo por el cual, se puede inferir que este tipo de sistema aunque se implemente en un país nunca cumplirá sus objetivos. El análisis se basa en el artículo realizado por Woods (s.f.) titulado El marxismo y la religión; en él señala que los primeros cristianos eran comunistas, lo cual demuestra que existe una mala interpretación de la doctrina y de ciertos eventos bíblicos. Para ello se sustenta esta postura basado en la Biblia Reina-Valera 1960.   AbstractThe present article of investigation, it is an origin of the analysis realized to the principal positions that differ between the communist system and the capitalist as decision-making elements in a regional integration. In this article, a rigorous and wide analysis is realized of one of two topics essentially controversial, the religion and the communism. The aim does not consist of reproaching the atheistic trend of the marxists and/or communists, if not in demonstrating that the principal positions of the communism go in opposition to the established for God, Jehová; I motivate for which, it is possible to infer that this one type of system though it is implemented in a country will never fulfill his aims. The analysis is based on the article realized by Woods (s.f.) graduate Marxism and religion, in him indicates that the first Christians were communist, which demonstrates that there exists a bad interpretation of the doctrine and of certain Biblical events; for it this position is sustained based on the Bible Reina-Valera 1960.

The Byzantine Empire, which existed for more than 1000 years, holds a special place in the history of civilization. It was the largest medieval Christian state on the crossroad of Europe and Asia. The Byzantine culture belongs to the medieval Christian culture, but it has specific peculiarities in comparison to the Western Christian culture.The phenomenon of Byzantium, as the successor of the Roman state tradition and as the source of Christian culture, is of particular importance in the development of Georgia's historical processes.Understanding the historical processes of the V-XV centuries in Georgia is quite difficult without knowing the history of Byzantium. We cannot analyze even the later period without knowing Byzantium, because this country has left an indelible mark on Georgia, especially on its culture. The purpose of the present article is to show what the position of the Byzantine history is in the national curriculum and school books.
