Feline scabies is a disease that is caused by Notoedres cati, a sarcoptic mite that injures the skin tissue. The present clinical case relates a notoedric scabies in a domestic cat, clinical observations, diagnostic test, and treatment. A 4-year-old male neutered domestic short haired cat was brought at a veterinary clinic. Alopecia, erythema, scales, crusts and hyperkeratosis were observed on the head, and pinnae and malodorous from lesions were observed in dermatological examination. Deep skin scrapings were collected. Microscopic examination revealed adult live mites presence. Based on the morphology, the mites isolated were identified as Notoedres cati. Ivermectin oral capsules (300µg/kg), repeat dose at 14 days. Bath with chlorhexidine and Benzoyl peroxide every 5 days for two months were applied. Moreover, multivitamin complexes were supplied daily, orally. An immunostimulant 1mL/10kg. IM, again applied two days. A clinical improvement in the cat was observed after administered this treatment. The present study reports notoedric mange in a domestic short haired cat in Colombia. The application of ivermectin with supportive therapy was useful in the treatment of notoedric scabies in this cat. The application of products other than ivermectin showed positive clinical observations in the recovery of this patient with feline scabies.

Background: Scabies is a skin disease caused by Sarcoptes scabiei. Scabies is transmitted through direct contact with animals affected by scabies or contact with the source of scabies mite in area of cat lives. Purpose: This study aims to determine the management of scabies at Q-One PetKlinik Surabaya. Method: Handling domestic cats affected by S.scabiei began with an interview with the  owner and examinated with the physical condition of cats, and observed the body that was infected with S.scabiei. Scrabbing on scabs was conducted in the cat’s body which was located in the facial area, and followed by microscopic examination to observe the S.scabiei mite. Results: During April 2021, there were 13 domestic cats affected by scabies. Treatment for scabies was by administrated drugs containing 5% Permethrin. Cats were also given supportive therapy by grooming with antiectoparasite shampoo after two weeks from being given drugs. Conclusion: Handling cases of scabies in domestic cats at Q-One PetKlinik Surabaya is performed by cleaning the scab, applying an ointment containing 5% permethrin, and giving anti-histamine and anti-parasitic as well as providing supportive therapy in the form of grooming using shampoo containing anti-ectoparasites.

SUMMARYNotoedric mange, caused by obligately parasitic sarcoptiform Notoedres mites, is associated with potentially fatal dermatitis with secondary systemic disease in small mammals, felids and procyonids among others, as well as an occasional zoonosis. We describe clinical spectra in non-chiropteran hosts, review risk factors and summarize ecological and epidemiological studies. The genus is disproportionately represented on rodents. Disease in felids and procyonids ranges from very mild to death. Knowledge of the geographical distribution of the mites is highly inadequate, with focal hot spots known for Notoedres cati in domestic cats and bobcats. Predisposing genetic and immunological factors are not known, except that co-infection with other parasites and anticoagulant rodenticide toxicoses may contribute to severe disease. Treatment of individual animals is typically successful with macrocytic lactones such as selamectin, but herd or wildlife population treatment has not been undertaken. Transmission requires close contact and typically is within a host species. Notoedric mange can kill half all individuals in a population and regulate host population below non-diseased density for decades, consistent with frequency-dependent transmission or spillover from other hosts. Epidemics are increasingly identified in various hosts, suggesting global change in suitable environmental conditions or increased reporting bias.

The article presents a literature review of a rare congenital disease, hyperphosphatasia syndrome with mental retardation (Mabry's syndrome) in children. This syndrome is characterized by a triad of symptoms: hyperphosphatasia, epilepsy and mental retardation, often associated developmental defects. To date, 114 patients have been described. The review presents the available literary sources with clinical observations of patients since 1970, when the syndrome was first described by the pediatrician Ch. Mabry. The data on genetic defects leading to the disease are presented. The scheme of development of pyridoxine-sensitive epilepsy, the most severe manifestation of the syndrome, is described. The first clinical case of the patient with Mabry's syndrome in combination with Hirschsprung's disease in Russia is described.

Domestic cat invitro embryo production (IVEP) begins with IVM of oocytes to produce mature oocytes; that is, MII. The domestic cat (Felis catus) has been used as a model to carry out assisted reproductive technology (ART) research for application in wild feline species that may be threatened or endangered. The objective of this research was to evaluate oocyte maturation of domestic cats in different reproductive stages: (1) prepubertal, (2) oestrus, (3) pregnant, and (4) anoestrus. The present study was carried out at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Unidad Xochimilco in Mexico City. Unless otherwise stated, all reagents used were from Sigma-Aldrich. The domestic cat ovaries were obtained from a veterinary clinic using salpingo-oophorectomy hysterectomy (OSH). Ovaries were classified as one of the following: (1) prepubertal (female cats under 6 months of age); (2) in oestrus (one or more 2-mm mature follicles); (3) pregnant (presence of fetuses with one or more corpora lutea; and (4) anoestric (ovaries without follicular activity). The ovaries were transported (<2h) in NaCl solution (0.157M) with ampicillin (10 000 IU mL−1), streptomycin (10 000 µg mL−1) and amphotericin (25µg mL−1) to the laboratory. The cumulus–oocyte complexes (COCs) were obtained by ovary microdissection with modified Tyrode’s medium supplemented with sodium lactate (10mM), HEPES (0.50mM) and polyvinyl alcohol (0.01%). COCs were washed twice with TCM-199 medium with Earle’s salts supplemented with bovine serum albumin (BSA, 3mg mL−1), cysteine (0.1mg mL−1), HEPES (1.4mg mL−1), sodium pyruvate (0.25mg mL−1), sodium lactate (0.6mg mL−1), L-glutamine (0.15mg mL−1) and gentamicin (0.055mg mL−1). The wash medium was also used for IVM, but supplemented with human menopausal hormone (Merional® IBSA; 4.5IU mL−1). Oocyte maturation was performed with TCM-199 medium supplemented with BSA, in an atmosphere of 38.5°C, 5% CO2, 95% air, and humidity at saturation for 48h. To evaluate IVM, 300μg mL−1 of hyaluronidase was used to remove the granulosa cells for 5min at 38°C. Next, the oocytes were fixed with paraformaldehyde (4%) for 15 min; washed with a mounting solution (Imacel, invitro); then, 1.5μg mL−1 of 4’,6 diamidino-2-phenylindole dihydrochloride (DAPI) was added. The stained oocytes were evaluated under a microscope (Eclipse E600, Nikon) equipped with a fluorescence lamp and a UV filter (excitation: 330–380nm). The Student’s t-test and the Chi-squared test (χ2) were used for statistical analyses (α=P<0.05). A total of 210 ovaries were obtained from 105 female cats: prepubertal (n=38), oestrus (n=25), pregnant (n=18), and anoestrus (n=24), with a total of 1405 oocytes recovered. The meiotic maturation between the different reproductive stages after 48h of culture was similar in prepubertal (48%), oestrus (46%), pregnant (43%), and anoestrus (45%) groups and did not show a significant difference (P>0.05). This study shows that the domestic cat reproductive stage does not significantly affect the production of mature oocytes for use in ART.

Twenty-seven demented elderly nursing home residents were given either reminiscence group therapy or supportive group therapy or were assigned to a no-treatment control group. The self-reported level of depression in participants given reminiscence therapy was positively affected compared to participants in the supportive therapy and control groups, but no significant effects were found for cognitive or behavioral functioning. Results are discussed in terms of the issue of the applicability of reminiscence therapy for cognitively impaired persons, the appropriateness of the measures used in this study to assess depression, cognitive ability and behavioral functioning, and in conjunction with clinical observations made during the process of therapy.

Pyelonephritis during pregnancy is a threat to the fetus and the pregnant woman. There are no studies showing the benefits of drainage management for pregnant women with pyelonephritis. Despite this, the drainage of the upper urinary tract is a tradition of a fairly large number of clinics. Guidelines for the duration of drainage in this category of patients are also not defined. Frequently, drainage is removed after delivery. And this is the «standard» in clinical practice. The negative side of this approach is persistent drainage infection, obstruction, and the need for frequent drainage changes. The article presents the clinical observations of patients with early removal of urinary drainage, which made it possible to stop bacteriuria and inflammatory changes in the urine.

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis is a rare, aggressive and life-threatening syndrome, characterized by an excessive immune activation. It is triggered by multiple stimuli, with infections having an important role. The most common infectious trigger is viral infection, particularly by Epstein-Barr virus. Coagulation disorders are common in hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis and disseminated intravascular coagulation can be present in severe cases. We report a clinical case of Epstein-Barr virus-associated hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, complicated with disseminated intravascular coagulation which evolved favorably with only supportive therapy and without specific treatment.

Oligodendrogliomas occur most commonly in the dog, but have also been reported in cattle, horses and cats. A 1-year-old sheep with neurological disturbances, including blindness, ataxia, circling and incoordination was referred to the veterinary clinic of Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman. Following euthanasia and necropsy, a soft, relatively well-demarcated mass was observed in the white and grey matter of the right cerebral hemisphere, close to the sylvian fissure in the right cerebral hemisphere. Microscopic examination revealed a sheet of densely packed tumour cells with hyperchromatic nuclei, lightly staining cytoplasm and characteristic perinuclear halo effect which is consistent with a diagnosis of oligodendroglioma. This is the 1st report of oligodendroglioma in sheep.

Objectives The aim of this study was to compare the sensitivity of acetate tape impression with skin squeezing and superficial skin scraping methods for the diagnosis of burrowing mites ( Notoedres cati) in cats. Methods Samples were collected from 50 cats showing signs of notoedric mange. The most affected region was selected for sampling using acetate tape impression with skin squeezing, and superficial skin scraping. Results No significant difference was observed in the number of mites found by both methods, regardless of the stage of development of the mite. The tests showed a high correlation to the total number of mites (r = 0.928). However, in two animals it was possible to confirm the presence of N cati only by the acetate tape impression test. Conclusions and relevance We conclude that the acetate tape impression test is a good method for confirming the presence of N cati in cats. In our experience, this technique is as sensitive as superficial skin scraping, even in animals presenting with a low infestation. Moreover, the technique is less traumatic and allows the collection of clinical specimens in more sensitive locations, such as the eyelids, lips and paws.
