The COVID-19 pandemic poses serious global challenges. Not only are they influencing political and social decisions, they are also affecting economic ones, both within individual companies and with all market participants. We are currently threatened by an unprecedented recession, which calls for active invention in the economy and companies themselves. This paper examines normative aspects of business and corporate ethics and shows how they can be used to better counteract the current crisis and associated challenges. I show that cooperative competition and open information-sharing with competitors can be mutually beneficial. I likewise suggest the importance of qualitative innovations that are recognized by society and all whom they directly or indirectly affect. If both aspects are combined – cooperation and the recognition of innovation – extensive innovation clusters can be initiated that can actively counter the current economic crisis. Keywords: Cooperative competition, qualitative innovation, coronavirus, recession, business ethics, philosophy of economics, innovation cluster, basic goods

In this paper, I review current status and development strategies in Korean innovation cluster. In particular, I compared the innovation clusters of Daejeon and Gyeonggi - do, and examined the differences and ways of cooperation. Among Daejeon and Gyeonggi-province innovation clusters, the DaedeokInnopolis is focused on R & D and pursues technology commercialization in connection with venture companies. Pangyo Techno Valley is a state-of-the-art IT technology centered on high technology companies. If wide-scale cooperation measures are established between Daejeon and Gyeonggi-do clusters, which are different from each other in the process of formation and complexity, a great synergy will be created at the national level. The future development strategy will be derived by examining the representative innovation cluster in Korea. The first strategic direction is to set up a vision of 'loosely coupled' between the Daejeon and Gyeonggi-do innovation clusters. The second strategic direction is to promote 'loosely coupled' wide-area cooperation programs between clusters. The third strategic direction is to foster an open innovation venture ecosystem.

The main purpose of this paper is exploring ways to manage business ethics effectively. To achieve this, first of all, the paper reviews the concepts and importance of business ethics together with its components, such as corporate ethics codes and corporate social responsibility (CSR). Next, five ways to manage business ethics efficiently are revealed. Based on these suggested ways, the paper recommends four practical actions for managers to have good management skills in this field. These recommendations are setting up an effective corporate ethics code, acting and behaving ethically in any circumstances, setting up rules and regulations, and advancing CSR in a very wise way. The paper concludes with two issues for future researchers: whether corporations need a business ethics manager/ specialist, and how companies motivate their employees to act ethically

Recent Years have witnessed a sea change in the very approach to corporate governance. Modern corporate governors do not view ‘maximisation of shareholders’ value’ as the sole mission of corporate management. Safeguarding and protecting the interests of the cross-sections of the society has come to occupy the ‘central stage’ of corporate planning today. This ‘new-found corporate philosophy’ is popularly referred to as Business Ethics in management jargon. Of late, the coverage and scope of business ethics have started expanding by leaps and bounds. Corporate practices the world over amply bear out today that the contours of business ethics are no longer confined to an abstract do’s and don’ts for business but represent a set of fundamental beliefs about the same. Observance of corporate ethics has become a global phenomenon with the US emerging as world leader. Other (developed) countries, however, do not lag far behind. Modest attempts have also been made in our country. We do have a host of socially responsible corporate: Tata group of industries providing the beacon light. Yet, we have a long way to go, particularly from the viewpoint of protecting the interests of the consumers, who are badly unorganised even today.

The purpose of the research. The purpose of the article is to determine the essence of the synergistic effect and to develop a common method for evaluating the phenomenon for further possible use in the analysis of the innovation cluster effectiveness. Methodology. In the course of the research, there were used general scientific theoretical methods: system analysis – to clarify the main categories of research; abstract-logical method – for realization of theoretical generalizations and conclusions about the essence of synergistic effect and peculiarities of its evaluation; graphical method – for visual presentation of theoretical and analytical material for the reflection of the main characteristics of synergetic effect in innovation clusters. Results. The article outlines the main characteristics of the innovation cluster and defines its role in formation of the competitive advantages for the national economy. The essence of the synergistic effect that arises in the process of interaction of innovation cluster participants is investigated. On the example of the functioning of large and small enterprises in the cluster the author illustrates schematically the positive synergistic effect of their interaction, and describes the main specific features of this effect. A general methodology for evaluating the synergistic effect in an innovation cluster is proposed based on grouping of the indicators system that will allow to evaluate the effectiveness of interaction processes between the innovation cluster participants. Practical meaning. The proposed general methodology for evaluating the synergistic effect in an innovation cluster can be used by its participants in the process of determining the effectiveness of their integration and developing appropriate measures to regulate the activity of the cluster. Prospects for further research. Carrying-out of the theoretical substantiation of the choice and calculation of certain indicators for the evaluation of the synergistic effect in the innovation cluster. Development of alternative forecasts for the innovation cluster development based on the results of the evaluation.

The article focuses on the creation and the development of the entrepreneurial ecosystem around the innovation clusters. Clusters are believed to have a well-defined strategic approach aimed at boosting businesses’ sustainable development, especially if clusters are centred around small and middle-sized enterprises. Having undertaken a piece of phenomenological qualitative research, we found that large companies were more open to cooperation and sustainability than the small and middle-sized ones, thus initiating and developing innovation clusters around them (particularly in high-technologized industries such as the automotive and Information Technology). Additionally, we highlight that a sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem is based on strong pillars, of which small companies’ capabilities, including the entrepreneurial ones, are innovation-driven, and place them in the centre of the innovation cluster. This piece of research also provides relevant insights for private and public organisations and policymakers in order to co-create a local innovation and entrepreneurship strategy. Our findings have implications for both cluster literature and the field of entrepreneurship.

The current economic crisis in Greece has
produced a dramatic fall in male and female
employment and driven unemployment to
historically unprecedented levels. This article
compares gender differences in the labour
market impact of the current crisis with those
of the three previous recessions: 1974, 1980-83,
1990-1993. We have found large discrepancies in
the gender impact between the four recessions.
These are due to differences in their nature and
duration, the sectors and industries hit each
time and the trends of women’s labour force
participation before the eruption of the crisis.
The structural nature of the current crisis and the
negative repercussions of the deep and prolonged
recession on the services sector that concentrates
the great bulk of female employment explain
why the gendered labour market impact of the
current crisis is different from that of previous
recessions. Male employment has been more
hit than female employment until now, but
the spread of the recession to services reversed
the long term trend of increase in the female
employment rate. By contrast, in all three
previous recessions, the tertiary sector had played
a protective, compensating and enhancing role
for women’s employment.
