Introduction: The older people with chronic diseases are one of the populations that have a susceptibility to COVID-19. The community-based program that help older people manage their lifestyle was postponed due to avoiding crowds and physical contacts. This literature review aims to describe a mobile-app for the older people with chronic diseases and its benefits. This literature review aims to describe a mobile-app for the older people with chronic diseases and its benefits. Method: The method used in this study is a literature review. This study is analyzed by selecting some literature that is relevant to the purpose of writing in order to obtain new conclusions. Online databases used are ProQuest, Pubmed and Science Direct starting from 2019 to 2021. The keywords used to sort articles in this study are: 1) older people, 2) mobile app, 3) COVID-19. Results: There was ten selected articles that analyzed. This literature review resulted in three main themes in the use of mobile-apps for the older people with chronic diseases, namely (1) monitoring of chronic diseases and COVID-19, (2) management of chronic diseases and COVID-19, and (3) the perspective of older people caregivers. The implication for nursing services is that nurses can disseminate information and provide interventions by minimizing physical contact. In addition, these results also have implications for the scope of nursing education, namely adding reference material for studies in health information systems courses. Conclusion: These results can be used as a basis for creating mobile-app-based educational media, monitoring, and self-management of chronic diseases for the older people and their caregivers.

BACKGROUND Mobile health (mHealth) defines the support and practice of health care using mobile devices and promises to improve the current treatment situation of patients with chronic diseases. Little is known about mHealth usage and digital preferences of patients with chronic rheumatic diseases. OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to explore mHealth usage, preferences, barriers, and eHealth literacy reported by German patients with rheumatic diseases. METHODS Between December 2018 and January 2019, patients (recruited consecutively) with rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and axial spondyloarthritis were asked to complete a paper-based survey. The survey included questions on sociodemographics, health characteristics, mHealth usage, eHealth literacy using eHealth Literacy Scale (eHEALS), and communication and information preferences. RESULTS Of the patients (N=193) who completed the survey, 176 patients (91.2%) regularly used a smartphone, and 89 patients (46.1%) regularly used social media. Patients (132/193, 68.4%) believed that using medical apps could be beneficial for their own health. Out of 193 patients, only 8 (4.1%) were currently using medical apps, and only 22 patients (11.4%) stated that they knew useful rheumatology websites/mobile apps. Nearly all patients (188/193, 97.4%) would agree to share their mobile app data for research purposes. Out of 193 patients, 129 (66.8%) would regularly enter data using an app, and 146 patients (75.6%) would welcome official mobile app recommendations from the national rheumatology society. The preferred duration for data entry was not more than 15 minutes (110/193, 57.0%), and the preferred frequency was weekly (59/193, 30.6%). Medication information was the most desired app feature (150/193, 77.7%). Internet was the most frequently utilized source of information (144/193, 74.6%). The mean eHealth literacy was low (26.3/40) and was positively correlated with younger age, app use, belief in benefit of using medical apps, and current internet use to obtain health information. CONCLUSIONS Patients with rheumatic diseases are very eager to use mHealth technologies to better understand their chronic diseases. This open-mindedness is counterbalanced by low mHealth usage and competency. Personalized mHealth solutions and clear implementation recommendations are needed to realize the full potential of mHealth in rheumatology.

<p>Nowadays, mobile applications seem to play a vital role in both dyslexia screening and intervention, accumulating numerous assets and comforts in according to dyslexics’ needs and learning pace. Initial detection of students’ disabilities, followed by a corresponding intervention program were the best combination of actions in an attempt to any problem be confronted effectively. In our today’s society, mobile apps have been considered as an alternative approach for the success of these well-known key steps, as well. The aim of this literature review is to propose a great number of screening and treatment mobile applications for dyslexia. During the last decades these  have been developed or have been implemented, focused on different aspects of dyslexia symptoms (reading, writing, mathematical difficulties, memory etc.) The studies are categorized into two sections, based on the purpose for which mobile applications are used at a time. The first part reflects a mobile app as a detection tool, while the second part presents it as intervention tool.</p>

Background: During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, it is understandable that nurses are working under stressful conditions. A successful use of effective coping strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic will help nurses to manage stressful conditions.Aim: The objective of this narrative literature review was to explore and describe the coping strategies used by nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic.Setting: This study was conducted from all available literature related to the coping strategies used by nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic globally.Methods: A narrative literature review was conducted to answer researchers’ concern of coping strategies used by nurses during COVID-19. The purposive sampling technique was used to select three online databases that were used to search for the relevant literature, namely Google Scholar, Science Direct and African Journals (formerly SAePublications). Search terms used to conduct this study include coping, coping strategies, nurses, nursing and COVID-19 pandemic. This study included English studies focusing on coping strategies used by nurses during COVID-19 published between 2019 and 2021. The study excluded newspaper articles, conference reports and other databases not mentioned in this study.Results: The findings identified the following strategies: use of COVID-19 protective measures, avoidance strategy, social support, faith-based practices, psychological support and management support are used by nurses as coping strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic.Conclusion: The use of the identified coping strategies by nurses may reduce stress and burnout during the COVID-19 pandemic. Recommendations were made for future research, nursing education and practice.Contribution: This is the first narrative literature review focusing on the coping strategies used by nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings of this narrative literature review provide insight that may be used by nurses of all categories to cope during the COVID-19 pandemic.

BACKGROUND Applying health technologies, such as mobile applications (apps), is considered as a means of promoting health management. This research aimed to examine the consideration of developing mobile applications (apps), support diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM-2) self-management, via investigating the outcome of original articles. OBJECTIVE (1) To indicate the extend which mobile app developers considered features and specifications defined by the health technology guidelines. (2) To identify the bottlenecks of health technology guidelines by assessing and comparing them. (3) To provide a list of evidence-based recommendations for manufacturers in order to design and develop as well as verify the health mobile apps. METHODS This research is a combination of systematic literature review and meta-analysis as well as qualitative assessment. The systematic literature review and meta-analysis included the articles published within the last six years, to indicate time-related reliability to the content, indexed on Ovid, Embase, Engendering Village, and PubMed. In order to conduct a meta-analysis, the information derived from included articles was adopted in a framework made of qualitative assessment of the well-known health technology guidelines. These guidelines were published by The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), World Health Organisation (WHO), Public Health England and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). RESULTS After filtering all articles via a PRISMA flowchart, 37 articles were selected for further investigations. The results of the systematic literature review and meta-analysis indicated that almost all articles reported the significant role of apps in improving the health status of the users. Majority of studies were clinical trials conducted to measure the outcomes of interventions using a known mobile app. Technology-related limitations were having access to a smartphone and mobile markets, technology literacy, and malfunction of the systems. Combination of recommendations provided by included articles was conducting further studies with larger sample size to determine barriers and facilitators of available technologies integrated with mobile apps, aimed to provide patient-centred services, in a longer duration of the intervention implementation. On the other hand, the majority of articles did not report the use of any particular guideline. However, by comparing their findings with the results of the qualitative assessment of selected health technology guidelines, evidence-based documents were scarcely reported. Likewise, only a few numbers of articles briefly discussed cost-effectiveness. Almost none of them used an approved tool for evaluating the economic effect of mobile apps. CONCLUSIONS The majority of publications indicated lack of proper adherence to guidelines in designing and examining mobile applications, developed for supporting DM-2 self-management. Furthermore, a comparison of four included guidelines indicated insufficiencies in some perspectives such as safety of recorded information. The list of recommendations, produced by the results of included articles and highlights of included guidelines, facilitates producing standard mobile health apps by manufacturers.

BACKGROUND Mobile applications (apps) that offer a variety of techniques to improve stuttering have been flourishing in the digital marketplace. In evidence-based clinical practice, speech therapists will recommend audio-enriched mobile apps to individuals with stuttering problems based on empirical research evidence. Unfortunately, many stuttering mobile apps available in the market are developed without a substantial research base. Hence, speech therapists necessitate a guideline which they could use to assess the quality of a stuttering mobile app before recommending the app to stutterers. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study is to develop a rubric for assessing the quality of the stuttering mobile app in assisting speech therapists to make informed recommendations METHODS The rubric was initially developed based on a set of criteria reviewed from the literature. Online surveys and focused group discussion were then conducted for results verification. RESULTS The outcome of this study is a rubric designed with four categories and 18-evaluative dimensions tailored to analyze the quality of stuttering mobile apps. The stuttering mobile app assessment rubric presented in the serve multiple purposes, including an evaluation instrument, providing guidelines for developing stuttering mobile apps and for creating a standard form that can be shared with professionals to facilitate a collective effort. CONCLUSIONS This rubric also offers a guidance to steer drive the future development of stuttering mobile apps that are evidence-based, and theoretically grounded

The COVID-19 pandemic compelled states to limit free movement, in order to protect at-risk and more vulnerable groups, particularly older adults. Due to old age or debilitating chronic diseases, this group is also more vulnerable to loneliness (perceived discrepancy between actual and desired social relationships) and social isolation (feeling that one does not belong to society). This forced isolation has negative consequences for the health of older people, particularly their mental health. This is an especially challenging time for gerontological nursing, but it is also an opportunity for professionals to combat age stereotypes reinforced with COVID-19, to urge the measurement of loneliness and social isolation, and to rethink how to further adjust interventions in times of crisis, such as considering technology-mediated interventions in these uncertain times.

Abstract Background With China’s population ageing rapidly, stroke is becoming one of the major public health problems. Nurses are indispensable for caring for older patients with acute and convalescent stroke, and their working experiences are directly linked to the quality of care provided. The study aims to investigate registered nurses’ experiences of caring for older stroke patients. Methods A qualitative descriptive design was adopted. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews with 26 registered nurses about their lived experiences of caring for older stroke patients. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. Results Two main themes were identified. First, the nurses identified an obvious gap between their ideal role in elderly care and their actual practice. The unsatisfactory reality was linked to the practical difficulties they encountered in their working environment. Second, the nurses expressed conflicting feelings about caring for older stroke patients, displaying a sense of accomplishment, indifference, annoyance, and sympathy. Caring for older stroke patients also affects nurses psychologically and physically. The nurses were clear about their own roles and tried their best to meet the elderly people’s needs, yet they lack time and knowledge about caring for older stroke patients. The factors influencing their working experiences extend beyond the personal domain and are linked to the wider working environment. Conclusions Sustaining the nursing workforce and improving their working experiences are essential to meet the care needs of older people. Understanding nurses’ lived working experiences is the first step. At the individual level, nurse mangers should promote empathy, relieve anxiety about aging, and improve the job satisfaction and morale of nurses. At the institutional level, policymakers should make efforts to improve the nursing clinical practice environment, increase the geriatric nursing education and training, achieve a proper skill mix of the health workforce, and overall attract, prepare and sustain nurses regarding caring for older people in a rapidly aging society.
