Introduction. Measuring user experience, though natural in a business environment, is often challenging for recommender systems research. How recommender systems can substantially improve consumers’ decision making is well understood; but the influence of specific design attributes of the recommender system interface on decision making and other outcome measures is far less understood. Method. This study provides the first empirical test of post-acceptance model adaption for information system continuance in the context of recommender systems. Based on the proposed model, two presentation types (with or without using tag cloud) are compared. An experimental design is used and a questionnaire is developed to analyse the data. Analysis. Data were analysed using SPSS and SmartPLS (partial least squares path modeling method). Statistical methods used for the questionnaire on user satisfaction were a reliability analysis, a validity analysis and T-tests. Results. The results demonstrate that the proposed model is supported and that the visual recommender system can indeed significantly enhance user satisfaction and continuance intention. Conclusions. In order to improve the satisfaction or continuance intention of users, it is required to improve the perceived usefulness, effectiveness and visual attractiveness of a recommender system.

Recommender systems are becoming increasingly important in every aspect of life for the diverse needs of users. One of the main goals of the recommender system is to make decisions based on criteria. It is thus important to have a reasonable solution that is consistent with user requirements and characteristics of the stored data. This paper proposes a novel recommendation method based on the resonance relationship of user criteria with Choquet Operation for building a decision-making model. It has been evaluated on the multirecsys tool based on R language. Outputs from the proposed model are effective and reliable through the experiments. It can be applied in appropriate contexts to improve efficiency and minimize the limitations of the current recommender systems.

Recently, the social networking applications expand rapidly and attract a lot of users in a short time period. This study attempts to develop a conceptual model to understand the continuance intention in the context of social networking. The conceptual model integrates the post-acceptance model of information system continuance with perceived ease-of-use and perceived usefulness proposed by Bhattacherjee (2001a) and Davis (1989), respectively. In the proposed model, continuance intention is influenced by the relationship quality and information system quality. Additionally, nine propositions are developed based the proposed model and literature review. Finally, conclusions, managerial implications, and future direction of research are also provided.

Purpose The long-term success of internet banking (IB) services is connected with continuous use. Therefore, examining factors which influence IB user continuance intention is important. Grounded in technology continuance theory, bank transparency and task technology fit (TTF) model, the purpose of this study is to develop a unified technology continuance model to investigate IB user continuance intention. Design/methodology/approach The research model was empirically tested with 348 responses. Respondents included in this study had prior experience with IB services. For hypotheses testing, the structural equation modelling approach was used. Findings Findings indicate that the research model has substantial power in explaining IB user continuance intention. Importance performance matrix analysis revealed that bank transparency had the highest importance in determining IB user continuance intention. Therefore, factors like user satisfaction and perceived usefulness have shown a medium level of importance in determining IB user continuance intention. Satisfaction is influenced by perceived usefulness and confirmation and established a significant impact on IB user continuance intention. Practical implications The findings of this research are useful for bank managers and policymakers to develop and design IB services according to user’s expectations. Results demonstrate that expectation confirmation and perceived usefulness are antecedents of IB user satisfaction and IB user continuance intention. In addition to that bank, transparency has shown a significant effect on user expectation and IB user continuance intention. These findings established that accuracy in sharing bank information and clarity in transaction charges encourage the user to continue the use of IB services. Originality/value The current study develops a unified technology continuance model based on the TTF model and technology continuance theory and investigates IB user continuance intention. Moreover, bank transparency is added in the technology continuance model and established a significant impact towards user expectation confirmation and continuance intention. These findings contribute to the limited body of research in the context of IB user continuance intention and enrich information system literature.

Recommender systems are widely used intelligent applications which assist users in a decision-making process to choose one item amongst a potentially overwhelming set of alternative products or services. Recommender systems use the opinions of members of a community to help individuals in that community by identifying information most likely to be interesting to them or relevant to their needs. Recommender systems have various core design crosscutting issues such as: user preference learning, security, mobility, visualization, interaction etc that are required to be handled properly in order to implement an efficient, good quality and maintainable recommender system. Implementation of these crosscutting design issues of the recommender systems using conventional agent-oriented approach creates the problem of code scattering and code tangling. An Aspect-Oriented Recommender System is a multi agent system that handles core design issues of the recommender system in a better modular way by using the concepts of aspect oriented programming, which in turn improves the system reusability, maintainability, and removes the scattering and tangling problems from the recommender system.

One of the major roles of governments is to create a favorable business environment for fostering entrepreneurial activities, including good infrastructure and a culture that encourages the adoption of technologies. In such a policy context, the Greek National Electronic Public Procurement System (ESIDIS) was developed. The use of ESIDIS is mandatory for the employees, and its success depends on users' satisfaction. The chapter investigates the factors influencing employees' satisfaction when using the system. Perceived usefulness, perceived ease-of-use, perceived risk, and willingness to learn were investigated using empirical research. Structural equation modeling was used for the analysis of the data. Perceived usefulness has the most significant role in determining user satisfaction while risks importance is diminished when users understand the usefulness of the system for their job performance. Managers and policymakers should take these factors into consideration in order to improve users' satisfaction and consequently maximize the added value of the system for the entrepreneurs.

A Recommender System (RS) works much better for users when it has more information. In Collaborative Filtering, where users' preferences are expressed as ratings, the more ratings elicited, the more accurate the recommendations. New users present a big challenge for a RS, which has to providing content fitting their preferences. Generally speaking, such problems are tackled by applying Active Learning (AL) strategies that consist on a brief interview with the new user, during which she is asked to give feedback about a set selected items. This article presents a comprehensive study of the most important techniques used to handle this issue focusing on AL techniques. The authors then propose a novel item selection approach, based on Multi-Criteria ratings and a method of computing weights of criteria inspired by a multi-criteria decision making approach. This selection method is deployed to learn new users' profiles, to identify the reasons behind which items are deemed to be relevant compared to the rest items in the dataset.

This study examined the role of enjoyment in people's decision to barter online. A survey in barter BBS/discussion forums and websites collected data from 135 participants (30 men, 105 women; 71% in the age group of 21–30 years) who barter online. To test a modification of the Expectation Confirmation Model, perceived enjoyment, confirmation of expectations, perceived usefulness, satisfaction, and continuance intention were measured. The data analysis showed that the expanded ECM had good explanatory power, with all paths supported except for perceived usefulness-satisfaction. In the proposed model, 33.1% of the variance in continuance intentions was predicted by the independent variables. Thus, the expanded ECM can provide supplementary information that is relevant for understanding continued online bartering usage. Barter website managers may encourage users' intentions to continue using these websites by emphasizing enjoyable aspects of online bartering.

User satisfaction is crucial to reinforce continued usage intention of mobile banking (MB). Since IS literature has overlooked continued usage intention of MB and its significance to reflect the success of MB system, it would be important to further the research in this area. This study employs both customization and security, two concerned factors among customers, to examine their impact on satisfaction and MB continuance intention. Extended expectation-confirmation model in IT domain (ECM-IT), developed from TAM and ECM, is used to evaluate the factors affecting satisfaction which in turn affects MB continuance intention. With a sample of a mid-sized US bank customers, regression results reveal that efficiency quality with its underlying factors of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use are significant predictors of satisfaction. The interaction effect is significant for customization, but not for security. Theoretical and practical implications are communicated.

Instant messaging (IM) technology has received extensive focus in the West while there is lack of knowledge of it in the Arab world. This study aims to shed light on factors affecting IM usage and user satisfaction in an Arab country (Kuwait). To achieve this objective, this study develops a theoretical model that is based on three well-known models. This model includes curiosity (from the theory of flow), compatibility (from the innovation diffusion theory), perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use (from the technology acceptance model), and individual characteristics in the form of prior similar experience. The proposed model was tested using survey data from 609 students, with the results lending support for the proposed model. Importantly, results highlight the impact of social effect on curiosity as a new mediator of technology adoption and satisfaction. This study contributes to the literature on technology adoption in the Arab word and aids educational institutions and companies to understand the social and technical nature of users’ attitudes with regard to ICT adoption and satisfaction.

AbstractMost existing research on usage behaviour of mobile book-reading applications (apps) has focused on exploring users’ initial acceptance; there has been a lack of understanding of the factors that affect user loyalty towards mobile book-reading apps that would reveal Chinese undergraduates’ behaviour patterns in using mobile apps. This study was designed to fill this gap by investigating Chinese undergraduates’ continuance intentions towards mobile book-reading apps. The study employed the expectation-confirmation model and technology acceptance model in conjunction with the perception of experiential value to derive an integrated model, followed by an empirical study to validate the model and better understand usage intention of the users of mobile book-reading apps. Survey data were collected from 390 Chinese undergraduates who had previous experience with mobile book-reading apps. The research model was examined using the SmartPLS 2.0 software. Structural equation modelling was used for hypotheses testing and path analysis was used to present the analytical results. The results of this study suggest that perceived usefulness and satisfaction directly influence continuance intention. User satisfaction plays a crucial intervening role in continuance intention from perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and confirmation of users’ expectations. User satisfaction is significantly influenced by expectation confirmation and perceived usefulness, as well as the perceived experiential values. The integrated model in this study successfully establishes the key factors that contribute to continuance intention towards mobile book-reading apps; the model offers a lens for understanding Chinese undergraduates’ apps use behaviour that has practical applications for developing better and more sustainable mobile book-reading apps among this user group.
