Online Bartering Motivations

This study examined the role of enjoyment in people's decision to barter online. A survey in barter BBS/discussion forums and websites collected data from 135 participants (30 men, 105 women; 71% in the age group of 21–30 years) who barter online. To test a modification of the Expectation Confirmation Model, perceived enjoyment, confirmation of expectations, perceived usefulness, satisfaction, and continuance intention were measured. The data analysis showed that the expanded ECM had good explanatory power, with all paths supported except for perceived usefulness-satisfaction. In the proposed model, 33.1% of the variance in continuance intentions was predicted by the independent variables. Thus, the expanded ECM can provide supplementary information that is relevant for understanding continued online bartering usage. Barter website managers may encourage users' intentions to continue using these websites by emphasizing enjoyable aspects of online bartering.

Recently, the social networking applications expand rapidly and attract a lot of users in a short time period. This study attempts to develop a conceptual model to understand the continuance intention in the context of social networking. The conceptual model integrates the post-acceptance model of information system continuance with perceived ease-of-use and perceived usefulness proposed by Bhattacherjee (2001a) and Davis (1989), respectively. In the proposed model, continuance intention is influenced by the relationship quality and information system quality. Additionally, nine propositions are developed based the proposed model and literature review. Finally, conclusions, managerial implications, and future direction of research are also provided.

Previous studies suggest that older adults are living increasingly alone and without the company of their close relatives, which cause them depression problems and a detriment to their health and general wellbeing. The use of social network sites (SNS) allows them to reduce their isolation, improve their social participation, and increase their autonomy. Although the adoption of various information technologies by older adults has been studied, some assumptions still predominate, for example, that older adults use SNS only for utilitarian purposes. However, considering SNS as hedonic information systems, and in order to extend the theoretical explanation of the intention to use hedonic systems to their actual use, this study aims to determine the influence of perceived enjoyment, perceived usefulness, and perceived ease of use on the use of SNS by elders in Concepción, Chile. Two hundred fifty-three older adults participated in the cross-sectional study. The results indicate that perceived ease of use is the variable that has the greatest total effect in explaining the use of SNS and that by adding the perceived enjoyment construct, the explanatory power of the model increases significantly. Therefore, advancement in user acceptance models, especially in the use of SNS by elders, can be made by focusing on the type of system, hedonic or utilitarian.

<p>The primary purpose of this study was to explore the key factors that could affect mobile learning continuance intention (MLCI), and examine the moderating effect of perceived flexibility advantages (PFA) on the relationship between key mobile learning elements and continuance intention. Five hundred undergraduate students who had previously adopted mobile devices to learn English took part in this study. Partial least squares (PLS) analysis was utilized to test the hypotheses in this study. It has been found that the perceived usefulness of mobile technology, subjective norm, and self-management of learning could be closely linked to mobile learning continuance intention. With particular respect to the moderating role of perceived flexibility advantages, it has been demonstrated that PFA could moderate the relationship between perceived usefulness of mobile technology and mobile learning continuance intention, as well as the association between subjective norm and mobile learning continuance intention, whereas PFA did not moderate the link between self-management of learning and mobile learning continuance intention.This report has further added to the body of knowledge in the field of mobile learning through empirical examination.</p>

AbstractThe target article's evolutionary approach provides an excellent framework for understanding when and why people retaliate or forgive. We argue that recent findings on the basic processes in forgiveness – particularly, the role of executive control – can further refine the authors' proposed model. Specifically, the lack of executive control may restrict the explanatory power of relationship value and exploitation risk.

Educational computer games have been widely employed to facilitate students’ learning. Studies have pointed out that these games may improve students’ learning effectiveness when they are equipped with appropriate learning strategies. However, the role of learning strategies in students’ acceptance of educational computer games has received surprisingly little scholarly attention. Hence, this research proposed two learning scenarios to address this question. Students in the first scenario were offered an educational computer game with a learning strategy, while those in the second were offered the same game without the strategy. A quasi-experimental design with a research model was constructed to examine the role of learning strategies in students’ acceptance of the given game. In this study, 65 students participated in the two learning scenarios. Two research findings are presented: (1) the adoption of the learning strategy not only affected students’ acceptance of the game, but also made their perceived ease of use significantly influence their perceived enjoyment, perceived usefulness, and attitude towards using; (2) with or without the learning strategy, perceived enjoyment was the most important factor that affected students’ acceptance of the game, while perceived usefulness, attitude towards using, and perceived control exerted no influence on this issue.

Introduction. Measuring user experience, though natural in a business environment, is often challenging for recommender systems research. How recommender systems can substantially improve consumers’ decision making is well understood; but the influence of specific design attributes of the recommender system interface on decision making and other outcome measures is far less understood. Method. This study provides the first empirical test of post-acceptance model adaption for information system continuance in the context of recommender systems. Based on the proposed model, two presentation types (with or without using tag cloud) are compared. An experimental design is used and a questionnaire is developed to analyse the data. Analysis. Data were analysed using SPSS and SmartPLS (partial least squares path modeling method). Statistical methods used for the questionnaire on user satisfaction were a reliability analysis, a validity analysis and T-tests. Results. The results demonstrate that the proposed model is supported and that the visual recommender system can indeed significantly enhance user satisfaction and continuance intention. Conclusions. In order to improve the satisfaction or continuance intention of users, it is required to improve the perceived usefulness, effectiveness and visual attractiveness of a recommender system.

The use of Internet technology as a medium for marketing purpose in order to obtain correspondence between marketers and consumers so that consumers can feel the perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and perceived enjoyment in shopping satisfaction and marketers get the implication that repeat purchases by consumers. This research is explanatory research using sampling techniques that accidental sampling method combined with snowball sampling method. The data was collected through questionnaires and interviews. This study used a multiple regression analysis. The conclusion that can be derived from the results of the analysis are from three independent variables studied, only two (2) independent variables that significantly affect the variable satisfaction (satisfaction) consumer m-business users in the city of Pontianak is the variable perceived ease of use, and perceived enjoyment, while the variable perceived usefulness does not significantly affect the variable satisfaction (satisfaction) m-business consumer users in the city of Pontianak.

PurposeThis study aims to investigate the factors influencing consumers' continued social commerce (s-commerce) intention and its underlying mechanism.Design/methodology/approachThe authors define continued s-commerce intention as consumers' intention to continually participate in s-commerce activities, namely, requesting and sharing commercial information. Grounded in the motivation theory, perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment are identified in this study as the motives behind consumers' continued s-commerce intention. Given the indispensable social facet of s-commerce, the authors include social support as another critical social factor motivating continuance intention. Furthermore, users' perceptions are affected by prior s-commerce outcomes, which concern the effectiveness of the commercial information exchange process. Research suggests that in such a context, the result of communication is jointly determined by source credibility and interactive relationships amongst individuals. Whilst source credibility determines the usefulness of the information transmitted, a social interaction supports this process. Therefore, source credibility and social interactions are crucial to the outcomes of s-commerce, which, in turn, affect consumers' perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment and social support in s-commerce. Building on these arguments, the authors propose our research model and then test the hypotheses via a survey.FindingsThe authors find that consumers' perceived usefulness and informational social support of s-commerce directly affect their continued s-commerce intention. Moreover, perceived enjoyment leads to continued s-commerce intention via the mediation of perceived usefulness, whilst emotional social support influences continued s-commerce intention through the mediator of informational social support. In addition, source credibility is a significant antecedent of consumers' usefulness, enjoyment and social support perceptions, whilst a social interaction significantly impacts perceived enjoyment and social support.Originality/valueVarious consumer behaviours in s-commerce have been studied; however, the continuance intention to participate in the s-commerce activity remains unknown. This empirical study fills this research gap. Moreover, the authors initially reveal s-commerce participants' utilitarian orientation in the post-adoption stage: perceived usefulness and informational social support affect continuance intention more directly than perceived enjoyment and emotional social support. Further, prior studies on information systems continuance have mainly focused on technical features. By identifying the influence from social factors, i.e. social support, this work extends the literature on information systems continuance.

Purpose Providing that branded applications (apps) became a new trend in mobile marketing, the purpose of this study, thus, is to explore how to promote app users’ continuance intention and purchase intention (i.e. “app continuance”) toward a specific branded app. Design/methodology/approach By integrating both goods-dominant logic (GDL) and service-dominant logic (SDL), this study uses a unifying model to examine whether perceived usefulness and task-service fit (TSF) have different effects on the two parts of app continuance. This study identifies task characteristic and four service characteristics (interactivity, presence, localization and ubiquity) as antecedents of TSF. Furthermore, psychological barriers are examined as mediators of TSF and purchase intention within SDL. Data collected from 631 users of the targeted branded apps support all of the proposed hypotheses. Findings The findings show that besides perceived usefulness, TSF is an essential determinant of both app continuance in the context of branded apps and a partial mediator of psychological barriers between TSF and purchase intention. Originality/value Unlike prior studies, which have focused on traditional GDL to examine continuance intention, this study incorporates SDL and the notion of psychological barriers to explore such matters. The evidence concerning the significantly higher explanatory power of the full model suggests that a deeper understanding of the antecedents of app continuance is possible when the alternative view is taken into consideration, thus providing a promising avenue for future research.

Purpose In this digitalization age, smart technologies are on the cusp of changing all business sector including retailing. Today’s consumers desire to shop in a smart store where the physical products on display are connected to the internet world. This study aims to propose a model for investigating Generation Z (Gen-Z) consumers’ expectations towards the smart retail technology (SRT) in the Malaysian context through the application of the stimulus-organism-response framework. Design/methodology/approach By using a purposive sampling technique, a self-administered questionnaire was conducted. A total of 220 usable responses were collected from Gen-Z consumers who had experience in using SRT. The data were analysed using partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). Findings This study underscores the role of perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment and perceived value on Gen-Z consumers’ attitude and word-of-mouth (WOM). Expectations on usefulness, enjoyment and value provide some ideas on Gen-Z consumers’ value who put a high emphasis on functional value, fun value and value for money when adopting the SRT. On the other hand, the result also demonstrates the mediating role of consumers’ attitude in connecting perceived value and perceived enjoyment on WOM towards SRT. Practical implications The findings of this study provide beneficial insights for a retailer who desire to pursue a smart-related acquisition strategy. Retailers are recommended to embrace on the following three key features: innovative solution (high usefulness), reliable benefits (high perceived value) and fun experience (high enjoyment) to provide Gen-Z consumers with compelling experiences. Additionally, retailers are suggested to acknowledge the importance of managing consumers’ attitude in driving positive WOM evaluations. Originality/value This paper responds to Ting et al.’s (2018) call in uncovering values and lifestyles of generation in details. In Malaysia, retailers ought to incorporate of the high level of usefulness, value and enjoyment when designing their SRT to constitute the Gen-Z consumers’ expectations. Moreover, similar to Ting’s conclusion, this cohort members are very much into technologies and they tend to embrace SRT in their lifestyles.
