Stunting is a global problem, especially in Indonesia. The prevalence of stunting among children under five in Palopo city is quite high, namely 36.0%. Therefore, this study aims to determine the incidence of stunting and its determinant factors in children aged 12–59 months in Palopo city, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. This study used a case control design. The subjects of this study were mothers who have toddlers aged 12-59 months. sampling with purposive sampling. 200 samples were collected for analysis. Data analysis using odds ratios. The proportion of stunting among toddlers 12-59 months was higher in children under five with a history of normal birth weight (70.8%) and under five who had no history of infection (84.0%). Low family income for stunting toddlers (78.0%). The results of statistical tests showed that LBW (OR = 5.37), history of infection (OR = 2.53) and family income (OR = 6.30) were determinants of stunting. This study shows that the determinants of stunting incidence in children aged 12-59 months are low birth weight, infectious diseases and low family income.

Status gizi ditentukan berdasarkan Z score berat badan menurut umur. Malnutrition is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in children under five years of age in developing countries. Malnutrition significantly increases the risk of infant and child death. Although the incidence of malnutrition in Yogyakarta lower than other provinces in Indonesia, the prevalence of severe malnutrition of children under five years of age was 1.14%. the objective of this study were to identify and determine the risk factors for malnutrition in children under the five years of age in Kasihan 1, Bantul District. Case control design was conducted among 54 children under the age of five with malnutrition (z score <-2 Deviation Standart) and 54 comparison children from Kasihan 1. The data were collected using structured questionnaire. The children’s weight and length were measured using standardized and calibrated device. Nutrition state classified using Z score (weight for age) Anthropometry WHO software version 2011. The protective factors for malnutrition were high maternal education (OR = 0.4 ; 95% CI = 0.19 - 0.79), birth space more than 60 months (OR = 0.3; 95% CI = 0.11- 0.90), normal birth weight (OR = 0.2; 95% CI = 0.10 - 0.60), and no history of chronic disease (OR = 0.3; 95% CI = 0.14 - 0.80). There are no relationship between malnutrition with maternal age, parity, paternal education, income, history of breastfeeding, smoking member of family and measles immunization.

Family strength structures use patterns in the family, people usually assume the most power in the family, giving special rights to get the best part of the food. This is one of the factors triggering the problem of underweight status in children under five in the family. Nutritional status in toddlers can be reflected by the distribution of individual food in a family day. Therefore, it will be more effective if the priority of individual food distribution in the family is the child who is still in the process of growth and development. This study aims to determine the distribution of family food to the nutritional status of children aged 1-5 years in Rammang-Rammang Hamlet, Salenrang Village, Bontoa Sub-district, Maros Regency. This research is an analytical research. Samples were toddlers aged 1-5 years who trained 35 people selected by purposive sampling. Data on family food distribution found through respondents' answers based on existing questionnaires and scoring on each question. Status of nutritional data was collected by weighing based on age of children under five, then calculated using the WHO Antro 2005 computer program. To determine the effect of variables on family food distribution with nutritional status of children under five, it was done using the SPSS program. Data is presented in the form of spread tables and frequencies. The results showed that the level of distribution of family food was quite adequate (77.1%). The mean nutritional status of children under five is generally good (74.3%). The results of statistical tests between variables there was no effect of food distribution on nutritional status of children aged 1-5 years.

BACKGROUND: The conducive factor of stunting is the deficiency in nutrient intake due to the lack of quantity and quality of food consumed by the children. Children’s food consumption is strongly influenced by the mother’s nutritional knowledge and children’s feeding practices. AIM: The aims of this study were to determine the effect of providing local snacks in South Sulawesi with a substitute of snakehead fish flour (Tibus) and virtual nutrition counseling on the growth of stunting children. METHODS: The design of this study used a randomized pretest-posttest control design. The sample was divided in two groups using systematic random sampling. The first group was given local Tibus snacks and nutritional counseling virtually and the second group was only given virtual nutrition counseling. The intervention was carried out every day until 1 month. The sample of this research was mothers who have stunting children under five of age. RESULTS: Nutrition knowledge of mothers in group one increased significantly before and after intervention (63.78 ± 1.68 vs. 73.70 ±1.35 points), but this was not the case in group two. The increase in maternal nutritional knowledge was higher in group one than in group two, although it was not significant (p = 0.91). The comparison of the weight gain of children in group one versus group two was 0.37 ± 0.49 kg versus 0.07 ± 0.39 kg (p = 0.021). The increase in the height of the children in group one before and after was 84.15 ± 7.79 cm versus 85.97 ± 7.95 cm (p = 0.000). The ratio of the increase in the height of the children in group one and group two was 1.82 ± 0.94 cm versus 1.53 ± 0.68 cm (p = 0.402). CONCLUSIONS: Nutrition counseling virtual can increase nutrition knowledge. The providing of local snacks (Tibus) accompanied by virtual nutrition counseling can increase growth in body length and weight of stunting children. The efforts to accelerate prevention stunting in children under five can be done with utilization of local snacks.
