Higher Education Research and Development Center (CHERD) at the University of Debrecen performed several basic and applied research on Higher Education. Debrecen is a typical regional HE institution with international attraction in the peripheral area of EU. We performed a series of student surveys during the last decade, and we had the opportunity to reveal the process of gaining ground of non-traditional students in HE. Our center provides an inspiring context for  researchers, where they have opportunity to discuss  their formulating new research directions  and to interpretat data and research results together. The Center supports talent esplorations and -development. Both MA/PhD students and researchers with great experience work together as a learning community. Thus, the mutual transfer and exchange of experience makes possible a continuous teaching-learning process during the research. Further more the concentration of professional development increases a special form of social capital.

Nowadays, the Industry 4.0 concept affects every area of the industrial, economic, social and personal sectors. The most significant changings are the automation and the digitalization. This is also true for the material handling processes, where the handling systems use more and more automated machines; planning, operation and optimization of different logistic processes are based on many digital data collected from the material flow process. However, new methods and devices require new solutions which define new research directions. In this paper we describe the state of the art of the material handling researches and draw the role of the UMi-TWINN partner institutes in these fields. As a result of this H2020 EU project, scientific excellence of the University of Miskolc can be increased and new research activities will be started.

The presence in the world of the pandemic known as Covid-19 has brought with it challenges and challenges in all areas, but especially in the educational context. The University of Granma responds to the intention of promoting the use of technologies in the improvement of Higher Education and in current times has had to enhance this aspect due to the need for social distancing. This work presents some of the alternatives that have been adopted in the House of Higher Studies and how young people have assimilated them, based on the experiences obtained in the teaching of the Communication course, which belongs to the Sociocultural Management for Development career from the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences. The epidemiological situation has not prevented the training of comprehensive and competent professionals, on the contrary, it has enabled students to achieve self-management of knowledge and meaningful learning, using virtual teaching- learning environments.

This article empirically assesses perception of quality in higher education in Ethiopia.  The data was collected from one higher educational institution where the staffs are graduates of 31 different universities in Ethiopia. The information used in this study was obtained through administration of questionnaires. The main participants are the academic staff of the University. The total number of staff that participated in the research was 365. Purposive sampling technique was employed to select 365 teachers (302 male and 63 female) and seventeen classrooms were observed and twelve group discussions carried out with participants of Ethiopian educational roadmap. Data were analyzed by both descriptive statistics of percentages and inferential statistics of, t-test, correlation and one way ANOVA. Results indicated that teacher’ valued input indicators of quality of education more than process and output indicators. Output indicators received the lowest rating. Teachers’ practice also indicated that they apply process indicators in a reasonable manner. The results of relationship between practices of teaching learning processes revealed that, as teachers’ perception toward quality teaching learning process increases their practice of elements of constructivism also increases.

This chapter focuses on blended learning towards social capital by showing the experience of Methodology of Social Research II, the blended learning training course held at the Faculty of Education of the University of Genoa (A.Y. 2010/2011). Blended learning engages disciplinary, technical, and relational skills so that human capital and social capital are empowered. The evidence is that in higher education blended learning empowers teaching/learning processes and student achievement providing active student engagement into participatory processes promoted in educational and evaluation activities, involving students in balanced relationships with peers and teacher facilitated by new technologies and tutorship.

This chapter approaches the problematic of communication in teaching-learning activities in higher education during the crisis generated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The authors have proposed to present a theoretical and practical approach to the effective communication in teaching, with the objective of knowing which are the opinions of students on communication skills and motivation of them in the classroom. The study included a total of 261 students from different faculties at the University of Bucharest, who were a Likert-scale survey in the period May -July 2020. Results of the analysis of research data shows that students have seen their ability to concentrate and motivation to perform tasks affected, but they did not leave university. In this respect, most difficulties were in carrying out teamwork than individual. The adaptations made by the university during confinement have been positively appreciated. The research findings coming according to recent studies confirm that without communication the teaching and learning process will not take place.

Institutions of higher education in the twenty-first century are undergoing a transformation locally and globally from traditional pillars of learning to being more entrepreneurial in their core business. There is increasing pressure on universities to becoming more flexible and adaptable as organizations and in the graduate attributes, they imbed in their students. There is a need to build deeper links with business, to both maximize innovation and promote growth, to ensure students are equipped to excel in the workforce. This change is having a disruptive effect on the role of universities, from classical research institutions to entrepreneurial universities mimicking more of the modern workplace working environment, requiring autonomy in their decision-making and in the way new research is developed, implemented and transferred in the relationships formed within their respective regions. This article outlines work in progress on the University of South Australia’s attempts to rebrand itself as a University of Innovation and Enterprise (Australia’s University of Enterprise) in both its end-user inspired research outcomes and industry-informed teaching and learning.

PurposeThis article aims to introduce the Kellogg College Centre for Research into Assistive Learning Technologies, which is a new research centre based at the University of Oxford.Design/methodology/approachThe article briefly sets the context of the centre within the current literature, and outlines the centre's current plan of work. The centre has funding for two years to look into new developments in the application of digital technologies to support the learning and educational achievement of young people in school and higher education with a range of specific learning difficulties. This will begin with a substantial research review, as well as in‐depth studies of current initiatives in secondary schools and higher education.FindingsThe findings from the research review will aim to be published and disseminated to the research community within the first two years of the centre's life.Originality/valueIt is hoped that this centre will be able to contribute to the existing research on the uses of a range of assistive technologies in educational settings.

O presente ensaio apresenta reflexões acerca da pesquisa sobre a cibercultura e as tecnologias no âmbito acadêmico. Como objetivo, busca refletir sobre o processo de ensino-aprendizagem através de recursos tecnológicos nos cursos de licenciatura e como os discentes desse curso percebem sua preparação para a futura docência com o uso dos artefatos digitais. A metodologia utilizada foi a qualitativa, com revisão bibliográfica e análise de dados a partir do questionário aplicado com os discentes dos cinco cursos investigados. Tendo como principais teóricos os autores Cerutti e Giraffa (2015), Kesnki (2003), Pretto e Pinto (2006) e Prensky (2016), que elucidam sobre a utilização das tecnologias no ambiente educacional, o texto apresenta o referencial teórico e a análise de dados. Como conclusão, percebemos que a aprendizagem sobre as tecnologias precisam ser suas vivências na própria Universidade, uma vez que mesmo nativos digitais, os acadêmicos não se percebem fazendo uso das mesmas em seus futuros espaços de docência. Palavras-chave: Cibercultura. The objective is to reflect on the teaching-learning process through technological resources in undergraduate courses and how the students of this course perceive their preparation for future teaching with the use of digital artifacts. The methodology used was qualitative with bibliographic review and data analysis from the questionnaire applied with the students of the five courses investigated. <em>Innovation and creativity in European society are fostered via a dynamic and flexible European higher education based on the integration between education and research at all levels (Communiqué, 2009). The synergy between education and research is effeciently driven via educational research.</em> <em>Sampling as an element of the educational research has a two-fold role: sample size is inter-connected with statistical analysis of the data and generalisation. Against this background, little attention has been given to principles of sampling in educational research. The research question is as follows: what principles form sampling in educational research? The aim of the research is to analyse scientific literature and work out principles of sampling in educational research underpinning elaboration of a new research question for further studies in educational research. The present research involves a process of analysing the meaning of the key concept “principle”. In the empirical study, explorative research was employed. Interpretive research paradigm was used. The empirical study involved six experts from different countries in February 2013 – July 2014. The findings of the research allow drawing the conclusions on the elaborated principles of sampling in educational research. Directions of further research are proposed.</em>

This chapter offers a didactic proposal on part of the degree of English studies syllabus in the University of Seville, the 19th century novel. It presents methodological guidelines underlying the inductive approach and a detailed breakdown of activities illustrating it. It aims to show the possibilities of the proposed approach, especially as regards advantages to replace traditional master session. The inductive approach offers a change in the role of the student within the teaching-learning process. It would also enhance students´ participation in the process of text analysis and, consequently, their learning. This role is developed in two ways: emotionally and cognitively. In order to develop main points, it is necessary, first of all, to consider what actions competent professional university training entails.
