The application of integrated survey techniques and 3D modelling methodologies for Cultural Heritage analysis is now considered a consolidated process, while preserving and suggesting continuous research lines related from one side to the evolution of acquisition and restitution instruments, from the other to the problems linked to the specific case study and the goal of the research. This article describes the analysis of one of the largest and best-preserved gates of Rome, located within the Aurelian walls: Porta San Sebastiano. The original name of this gate was Porta Appia, transformed in the Middle Ages into San Sebastiano from the name of the Christian martyr buried in the Basilica on the Via Appia, located just outside the walls. The current gate aspect is the result of many architectural changes over the centuries, as well as a transformation happened in the twentieth century which has led it to a residential use, a unique example of its kind. Through the integration of different survey techniques, a geometric analysis of the complex building is completed, highlighting the construction complexity and the spatial articulation. A parametric model of a portion of the building is then suggested, aimed at understanding the logic underlying the definition of a HBIM model related to an existing complex artefact. Through an integrated analysis, the aim of the article is to provide an advancement in the knowledge of the specific Cultural Heritage through the integration of complementary methods of analysis and representation.

The airport terminal is a complex building composed of many functional subsystems dimensioned to host passenger traffic, considering an appropriate level of service (LoS). The most widely known method to assess the LoS and design the terminal areas is the Airport Development Reference Manual by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Based on this, a calculation tool in Microsoft Excel® was implemented to assess the capacity and dimension of the facilities for each functional subsystem of the terminal. The tool, composed of nine correlated spreadsheets, is a useful model to design new structures, evaluate the LoS currently offered, plan interventions, and face the new rules of passenger distancing due to the COVID-19 emergency. An international airport terminal with 20 million/year including Schengen and extra-Schengen passengers was studied. The LoS of the terminal subsystems was assessed and the areas needed for each subsystem were calculated. In the analyzed case study, most subsystems (departure hall, check-in, boarding gates, baggage claim, and arrival halls) were over-designed, according to the definition of the IATA LoS. This means that available spaces for queues and holding are sufficiently large to easily face the new rules of social distancing for passengers due to the recent COVID-19 emergency.

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> The object of the study is the survey of minor historic settlements through integrated architectural survey techniques, the BIM modelling for the management of information at multiple levels, and the definition of pattern books to describe the qualities of the place. The research on cultural heritage representation made in Umbria, taking as a case study the historic hamlet of Lizori, a settlement located over the hill between Foligno and Spoleto in the town of Campello sul Clitunno (PG). It was selected as a paradigm of minor village and an experimental model to provide useful reference to reconstruct strategies, which is so important in the area recently affected by seismic events. The purpose of the research is therefore focused on finding a modus operandi in the management of multiple and uneven information. The goal is then to create a digital informative model functional to the conservation and restoration process and a knowledge-based reference for further study.</p>

Corrosion in reinforced concrete is generally attributed to either carbonation or chloride presence in the vicinity of the bars. But in the field of cultural heritage, especially for the most ancient monuments, it is not rare to encounter both carbonated and chloride polluted concrete, inducing heavy corrosion, as was the case in the Villa E-1027 in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, on the French Mediterranean seashore. The villa was designed by Eileen Gray and Jean Badovici between 1926 and 1929. Due to aggressive environmental conditions and a period of dereliction, the concrete of the villa was quite heavily decayed and a deep restoration was led between 2000 and 2006. But after a little more than 10 years, and despite active maintenance, the villa is again facing corrosion induced decay. Prior to the definition of a new restoration protocol, to better evaluate the corrosion activity, in 2017 a permanent monitoring of moisture and temperature both in the air and in the concrete was installed. In the meantime, a series of instant electrochemical measurements was performed from 2017 to 2018. A first analysis of the results of the monitoring and the non-destructive tests clearly evidences that probably due to the conjunction of the carbonation of the concrete and external active chloride pollution, corrosion can happen at quite low moisture content.

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> The digital acquisition of Cultural Heritage is a complex process, highly depending on the nature of the object as well as the purpose of its detection. Even if there are different survey techniques and sensors that allow the generation of realistic 3D models, defined by a good metric quality and a detail consistent with the geometric characteristics of the object, an interesting goal could be to develop a unified treatment of the methodologies. The Chapel of the Holy Shroud, with its intricate articulation, becomes the benchmark to test an integrated protocol between a terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) and a wearable mobile laser system (WMLS) based on a SLAM approach. In order to quantify the accuracy and precision of the latter solution, several forms of comparison are proposed. For the case study the ZEB-REVO, produced and marketed by GeoSLAM, is tested. Computations of cloud-to-cloud (C2C) absolute distances, comparisons of slices and extractions of planar features are performed, using stationary laser scanner (Faro Focus<sup>S</sup> S350) as a reference. Finally, the obtained results are reported, allowing us to assert that the quality of the WMLS measurements is compatible with the data provided by the manufacturer, thus making the instrumentation suitable for certain specific applications.</p>

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> In this paper, an integrated analysis of the geometric and photogrammetric surveys on a 19th century bridge is proposed as an instrument for the comprehension of the historical evolution of its structural disorders, of its present conservation status and as a reliable base to define future interventions. The studied 20 arches brick masonry bridge in Northern Italy, that reaches the length of nearly 600 meters, constitutes a very interesting case study, not only for the technical and structural issues related to its restoration and use (with increased traffic loads) but also for its geometry, that has strict connections with the design methods that lead its construction, based on proportions, and whose changes in time embody the present symptoms of possible structural illnesses. Moreover, the bridge shows many decay phenomena, whose treatment will require a large part of the restoration resources. For this reason, a precise quantification of the affected surfaces, also in the curved parts, is important for the definition of conservative interventions. To this aim, possible methods of mapping and measuring the decay phenomena starting from the photogrammetric survey are also discussed.</p>

AbstractThe case study presented in this article is an analysis of Portuguese literary manuscripts which deal with religious Jewish controversies during the Middle Ages (13th to the 15th centuries). These documents came down to us through the subsequent centuries and are available in the Libraries of Portugal. The article is intended to make known variegated documents of religious controversies over three centuries, while, at the same time, we shall draft a brief presentation of their authors, except for anonymous works. In the second part, we shall proceed with a definition of this particlar literary genre as well as analyze the characteristics and also the common features of the different works. In the end, we shall investigaate the discourses, motivations, and the different authors who have influenced the writing of these medieval controversies.

Abstract. This paper shows an application of image-based 3D modelling concerning an interesting case study in the field of Cultural Heritage, a safe located in the Obellio Firmo domus in Pompeii (Italy), one of the largest and most complex houses in the ancient city. The object was strongly deformed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D. and is currently protected by a permanent glass that helps to preserve it over time. The surveying activities and processing methodology is explained, based on Multi-View Structure from Motion technique, as well as the unconventional solution adopted during the images acquisition. Finally, an attempt will be presented to reconstruct the hypothetical original three-dimensional appearance and shape of the safe.

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> The present work focuses on the study of vaulted systems by Guarini, by virtue of the paradigmatic role that Guarini assumes in the field of studies dedicated to this topic. The research has been compared in-depth analysis aimed at connecting relevant data with archival drawings, historical studies and treatises in order to use digital representation in heuristic terms. The attempt is to delineate and explain, through the analysis of architectural artifacts, the links between theorizations, transformations of reference geometric models and buildings. The ‘Appartamento di Mezzanotte’ (northern apartment) of Palazzo Carignano was choosen as a case study, because the different vaulted rooms that compose it witness the creative inspiration by Guarini and allow to structure a study that produce interesting results in relation to the connections between theoretical studies, research and cultural heritage. The use of digital representation integrated with photo-modelling (SfM) tries to create new tools to investigate these different fields in their absolute and relationship value.</p>

Abstract The so-called. ‘Christianization’ of Aristotle in the Middle Ages and in particular by Thomas Aquinas remains a vexed debate. A case by case study seems to be a fruitful approach. One of these cases concerns Aristotle’s definition of the soul in De anima II, 1(412b10-25). Applying this philosophical claim to the theological question Utrum Christus fuerit homo in triduo mortis seems to be not without difficulty, as St. Thomas’ frequent treatments of this question show. In this paper I analyze these texts and show how Aquinas on multiple occasions follows De anima II, 1 and similar texts of Aristotle and defends a robust Aristotelian position, even in light of the significance of his recovery of Greek Church Fathers.

RESUMO        Do nascimento da Associação Internacional de Teatro na Universidade, ou Quando uma necessidade do TU cria o órgão AITUDesde a criacão das primeiras universidades na Idade Média, a atividade teatral universitária esteve diretamente ligada às matérias ensinadas como um auxiliar do ensino,  e essencialmente praticada intra muros. Após a 2a. guerra mundial (1945), o teatro universitário iria acentuar o fenômeno de sua abertura e de sua internacionalização. Rompendo os muros da universidade, o teatro conquistaria cada vez mais visibilidade, e inúmeros grupos universitários se veriam tentados pela profissionalização. A própria universidade vai, a partir daí, considerar o teatro como objeto de estudo.  E os anos 70 serão, assim, marcados em quase todas as universidades europeias, pela criação de Departamentos de Estudos Teatrais. A década de 1980 viu florescerem novos festivais internacionais que revelam claramente a abundância de teatros universitários e a grande diversidade de suas práticas. Por ocasião dos Encontros de Liège (RITU), vai ressurgir no início dos anos 90, a questão da definicão do teatro universitário, que impulsiona os liegenises a organizar um Congresso Mundial em outubro de 1994, quando foi criada a Associação Internacional do Teatro na Universidade. A AITU organzia seu 11o. After the 2nd World War (1945), University Theatre would accentuate the phenomenon of openness and internationalization. Leaving the walls of the university, theater acquired more and more visibility, and numerous academic troops were tempted by professionalization. The university itself will now consider theater as a case study. And so the 70’s will be marked by the creation of Theater Studies Departments in universities all over Europe. The 1980’s saw a flowering of new international festivals which clearly reveal the abundance of university theaters and the great diversity of practices. On the occasion of the Liège Meetings (RITU), the question of the definition of university theater resurfaced in the early 90s, which pushed the organizers to set up a World Congress in October 1994.
