ABSTRACT Introduction The clinical manifestation of periodontal diseases (such as gingivitis and chronic periodontitis) results from a complex interplay between the etiologic agents such as bacteria that present in the dental plaque, genetic factors, systemic diseases, smoking and exposure of some heavy metals, such as mercury. In this study, we aimed to evaluate hair mercury levels in healthy subjects in comparison with periodontal patients. Materials and methods One hundred twenty subjects were enrolled in this study. The included persons were divided into 3 groups: healthy subjects (n = 40), gingivitis (n = 40) and chronic periodontitis patients (n = 40). Hair samples were collected from occipital area of head. Total mercury levels were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Results The difference between mercury levels in three groups were statistically significant (p-value < 0.001). Mercury level in periodontitis patients was greater than the gingivitis group (p-value < 0.001). In addition the differences between mercury levels in periodontitis patients vs healthy individuals was significant (p-value = 0.048). The gingivitis patients had lower levels of mercury than the control group, but the difference was not significant (p-value = 0.170). Conclusion The results showed that the levels of mercury are to some extent differed in periodontal diseases in comparison with the healthy individuals. Abstract Funding Acknowledgements None Background/Introduction: Calculation of the LV and RV stroke volumes (SV) with the volumetric method can be useful for assessment of valvular regurgitant volumes and intracardiac shunt ratios. However, this method often yields significant differences between the estimated LV and RV SV even in healthy subjects. We hypothesized that this discrepancy can be largely due to the assumption of LV and RV outflow tract circularity which forms the basis of 2D derived areas. Purpose To assess if the use of 3D transoesophageal (TOE) derived LVOT and RVOT areas can improve the agreement between LV and RV stroke volumes using the volumetric approach in healthy subjects with no valvular abnormality or intracardiac shunt. Methods We studied 20 patients (9 Males, age: 51 ± 19 y) submitted to TOE for various reasons, who had normal cardiac anatomy and function and good quality 3D TOE LVOT and RVOT data. Two dimensional TOE measurements of the LVOT and RVOT diameters were made in a zoomed mid oesophageal long axis and short axis view respectively; using these measurements 2D TOE LVOT and RVOT derived areas were calculated assuming circularity. In a similar way, we calculated the 2D LVOT and RVOT areas using data from transthoracic echo (TTE) for each patient. Offline analysis of the 3D TOE data allowed direct planimetry of the LVOT and RVOT areas devoid of any geometric assumptions. Finally, calculation of the 2D TTE, 2D TOE and 3D TOE LV and RV stroke volumes were performed for each patient based on the acquired data. The difference between LV and RV stroke volume (which theoretically should be around zero) for each technique and for each patient was also calculated. Results The mean LV and RV SV for the whole cohort, did not differ significantly within each method: 2D-TTE. However, the mean absolute difference between LV and RV stoke volumes for each technique was significantly lower with the use of 3D TOE compared to both 2D TTE and 2D TOE. Mean values and dispersion of absolute differences for each method are shown in Figure 1. Conclusions Compared to 2D, use of direct 3D TOE RVOT and LVOT planimetry yielded significantly less difference between RV and LV stroke volumes in healthy individuals. This finding can have potential clinical implications for more accurate assessment of valvular regurgitant volumes or intracardiac shunts. BACKGROUND AND AIM: Oral lichen planus is a common chronic inammatory disease of the oral mucosa with malignant potential. There are various antioxidant systems in body uid which can neutralize the reactive species. Impaired function of these systems leads to oxidative damage in the tissues and can result in the inappropriate activation of the immune system.Thus reduced antioxidant defense and increased oxidative stress may play an important role in etiology of many chronic immune mediated diseases such as: diabetes, psoriasis, vitiligo. Analyzing the antioxidant capacity in patients with OLP is of signicant value as it can provide essential clues in the etiology of the diseases and help in better management of the disease.This study aimed to assess and compare the antioxidant capacity of oral lichen planus patients and healthy subjects. MATERIALS AND METHODS:This study included 50 oral lichen planus patients and 50 healthy subjects . DPPH Assay is used to assess the antioxidant capacity in OLP patients and healthy subjects. The percentage scavenging of DPPH radical gave the antioxidant activity of the sample. RESULTS:Antioxidant level were reduced in the OLP group while comparing it with the control group. Mean antioxidant level in OLP group was 0.6 and that of the control group was 1.6. Comparison of mean antioxidant levels between the OLP group and control group showed signicant (p<0.0001) difference. The difference between the reticular and erosive OLP group showed signicant difference with p value less than 0.0001. CONCLUSION:Antioxidant level signicantly decreased in OLP group compared to control group.Erosive OLP patients show low antioxidant level compared to reticular OLP patients.The ndings of present study support the hypothesis of the association between antioxidant capacity and OLP.

Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the level of blood and hair mercury transition in rabbits depending on the number of amalgam filled teeth in the mouth. Material and Methods: A total of 18 male rabbits from New Zealand were used in the study.  The rabbits were separated into three groups in this study. The first group was named as control group, the second group was named as dichotomous filled group,   and the third group was named as quadruple amalgam filled group. Blood samples were collected from filler animals before the filling, at 24 hour, at the first week and month and also hair samples were taken before the filling and at the first month. The transfer of mercury, taken by the blood and feather samples of rabbits in the study, was made with the hydride system in the absorption spectrophometer. Results: The data’s, obtained from the study, were evaluated by using the SPSS 21 package program. Compared by the control group at the 24th hour, any statically difference wasn’t seen between dichotomous and quadruple amalgam filling groups in terms of blood mercury level. (P>0.05). However, the level of blood mercury, one week and one month later was significantly higher than the control group.(P<0.05) In the all periods, the level of blood mercury was found similar between dichotomous and quadruple amalgam filling groups (P>0.05). Conclusions: Mercury couldn’t be detected in hair samples. The susceptibility to the development and progression of inflammatory periodontal diseases, which depends on genetic and external factors (smoking, stress, oral hygiene), varies widely. In the development of these diseases, an important role is played not only by the presence of periodontal pathogenic microorganisms, but also by the presence of congenital or acquired immunodeficiency, immunoregulatory defects. The immune system plays a key role in the physiological and pathological processes of periodontal tissues. In this regard, IL17, produced by CD4+ Th cells, which has both Pro-inflammatory and protective activity, is of particular interest in the pathogenesis of periodontitis. The aim of study was to identify the relationship between polymorphic loci of the IL-17A (rs2275913) and MMP-1 (rs1799750) genes and clinical manifestations of chronic periodontitis in petrochemical workers. Dental examination was performed in 92 ethylene oxide production workers with chronic periodontitis and 74 patients with chronic periodontitis who did not come into contact with chemical factors (control group). Genotyping of polymorphisms rs2275913 of the IL17A gene and rs1799750 of the MMP1 gene was performed by allele-specific real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Hygienic assessment of the degree of air pollution of the working area with harmful substances was carried out by gas chromatography according to the guidelines for the determination of harmful substances in the air № 5098-89, № 3119-84. When comparing the results of studies of both groups, there were no statistically significant differences in the frequency distributions of allelic variants and genotypes of the IL-17A and MMP-1 genes. The AA/AG genotypes of the IL-17A gene were associated with an increased risk of severe disease compared to the GG genotype in workers in the main group (OR=6.1; 95% CI 1.33-28.5; p=0.021) and in the control group (OR=7.26; 95% CI 1.34-39.25; p=0.016). Carriers of the A allele in the control group increased the risk of severe chronic periodontitis by 2.4 times compared to carriers of the G allele (OR=2.41; 95% CI 1.19-4.87; p=0.014). During the dental examination of employees of the ethylene oxide plant, the clinical course of periodontal diseases was more severe in comparison with the control group, and the number of patients with severe periodontitis was twice as high. It was found that the AA/AG genotypes of the IL-17A gene and the carrier of the A allele are associated with increased susceptibility to the development of severe chronic periodontitis. The association between the MMP-1 gene polymorphism and the risk of severe forms of chronic periodontitis has not been established. A risk factor for the development of inflammatory periodontal diseases in employees of the petrochemical complex is a complex of harmful production factors.

Introduction: Parasitic myositis is caused by some parasites such as T. gondii and T. canis. So, the aim of the study was to evaluate the prevalence T. gondii and T. canis in patients with myositis and healthy individuals. Methods: A total of 108 samples were randomly selected as the control (54 healthy individuals) and test (54 myositis patients) groups. IgG and IgM antibodies against T. gondii and IgG antibodies against T. canis were measured by the ELISA. The detection of chronic and acute toxoplasmosis was performed by the ELISA IgG avidity. The presence of T. gondii in blood was evaluated by the nested-PCR. Results: Of 108, 33 (30.6%) cases were detected positive for IgG against T. gondii that 19 (35.2%) and 14 (25.9%) were observed in myositis patients and healthy individuals, respectively (P=0.296). Of 19 positive cases, 12 (63.2%) and 7 (36.8%) cases were detected as chronic and acute toxoplasmosis, respectively, while, all positive cases in the control group had chronic toxoplasmosis (P=0.013). One (1.9%) sample was detected positive for anti- Toxoplasma gondii IgM and two (3.7%) samples were found positive for IgG against T. canis by the ELISA that these positive cases were observed only in myositis patients (P=1.000 P=0.495, respectively). B1 T. gondii gene was amplified in 12 (63.2%) and 1 (7.1%) in myositis patients and healthy subjects (P=0.001). Conclusions: Our findings showed that there was a relatively high prevalence of acute toxoplasmosis in myositis patients in comparison with the control subjects in southwest of Iran.

Objective. To evaluate the involvement of the bursa located next to the head of the 5th metatarsal bone in patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) in comparison with the other seronegative spondyloarthritis (SpA).Methods. All patients with PsA seen during a period of 24 months were enrolled. The control group included healthy subjects and patients with the other SpA. All subjects underwent clinical and ultrasound (US) examination of the lateral surface of the 5th metatarsal.Results. 150 PsA patients (88 M; 62 F), 172 SpA (107 M; 65 F), and 95 healthy controls (58 M; 37 F) were evaluated. Based on clinical and US evaluation, bursitis was diagnosed in 17/150 (11.3%) PsA patients but in none of the SpA (P<0.0001) and healthy (P=0.0002) controls. In detecting bursitis, US was more sensitive than clinical examination, although the difference did not reach statistical significance (P=0.09).Conclusion. The bursa of the 5th metatarsophalangeal joint appears to be involved in PsA more frequently than by chance. If confirmed by other studies, this finding could be considered as a distinctive clinical sign of PsA, useful for differential diagnosis with the other SpA. In asymptomatic patients, US proved to be more sensitive in the detection of bursitis.

The objective of this study was to determining the frequency of different sub-types of pathogenic CDH1 germline mutations in healthy and asymptomatic individuals from families with the hereditary diffuse gastric cancer (HDGC) syndrome. Relevant literature dating from 1998 to 2019 was systematically searched for data on CDH1 germline mutations. The collected variants were classified according to their subtype into the following classes: missense, non-sense, splicing, insertions and deletions. The χ2 test was used to estimate if the difference observed between patients with gastric cancer (GC) and unaffected individuals was statistically significant. CDH1 genetic screening data were retrieved for 224 patients with GC and 289 healthy individuals. Among the subjects that had tested CDH1 positive, splicing mutations were found in 30.4% of the healthy individuals and in 15.2% of the patients with GC (p=0.0076). Missense mutations were also found to occur in healthy subjects with higher frequency (22.2%) than in GC-affected individuals (18.3%), but the difference was not significant in this case. In families meeting the clinical criteria for the HDGC syndrome, CDH1 splicing and missense germline mutations have been reported to occur with higher frequency in healthy subjects than in patients with cancer. This preliminary observation suggests that not all pathogenic CDH1 germline mutations confer the same risk of developing GC.

Abstract PURPOSECarbonic anhydrase-2 (CA-2) plays a role in mineralization and calcification in organism. Strong evidence suggests that CA-2 is associated with urolithiasis. However, the relationship between CA-2 and urinary stone remains unclear. The study aimed to assess the association of urine CA-2 (uCA-2) level and the potential risk of urinary stone.METHODSFrom March 2017 to November 2019, a prospective cohort study was conducted on patients with urinary stones and healthy subjects to determine the pretreatment uCA-2 level detection by Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The difference of uCA-2 level between patients with urinary stones and healthy subjects was compared. Then comparison between stone patients with complications and without complications was carried out as well as correlation analysis to detect factors associated with biomarker expression.RESULTS118 patients with urinary stones were into urinary stones group and 42 healthy subjects were into healthy control group. The mean pretreatment uCA-2 level was significantly higher in patients with urinary stones group than healthy controls group (P=0.028). Furthermore, The uCA-2 level was positive correlation with urinary stones complications (R=0.379, P=0.000), especially pain complications (R=0.524, P=0.000) and hematuria complications (R=0.374, P=0.000). Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis that a uCA-2 level threshold of 10.94 ng/mL had 83.67% sensitivity and 68.12% specificity for predicting urinary stones complications. CONCLUSIONSExcessive uCA-2 excretion is a major risk factor for urinary stone. Our findings suggested that uCA-2 may be used as an unappreciated biomarker for the diagnosis urinary stone in patients and to predict its complications.

Traffic accidents are one of the public health problems that affect all sectors of life. The phenomenon of traffic accidents so far has not received much public attention as a cause of death. The increase in mortality rates that occur on the highway is very high and quite a concern and vigilance for the community. This usually happens one of them because the Indonesian people do not know how to help victims who are good and right when finding victims. As a result most of actions is wrong, so  it can add to injury and  death. This study aims to determine the effect of basic life support (BLS) training on the motivation and demeanour of class XI students in rescuing  traffic accidents in SMA Negeri 2 Tenggarong. This study uses a quasy experimental method of pre and post design with a control group. Proportional stratified random sampling technique with a sample of 78 students and data collection using a questionnaire sheet. Data that was analyzed by paired t test in each group showed a p-value of 0,000 <0.05, meaning that there was a statistically change in motivation and attitude between before and after treatment in the form of BLS training for class XI students at SMAN 2 Tenggarong.  The result is not much different from the independent t test which showed p-value 0,000 <0.05, which means there is a statistically different demeanour between the difference before and after treatment in the form of BLS training in the control and intervention groups. The results showed that there was a statistically significant change in motivation and demeanour between before and after the BLS training was given to the motivation and demeanour of class XI students at SMAN 2 Tenggarong with a p-value of 0,000 <0.05.

Safety has become a global issue in various sectors, including the health services sector. The hospital is one of the health service organizations that is guided to continuously improve quality by building safer and safer health services so as to get customer loyalty. Hospital staff is a major component of quality management in one of the indicators in evaluating hospital accreditation. This research uses a quasi-experimental research design pre and posttest with control group. Quasi experiment research is a study that tests an intervention in a group of research subjects and then measures the results of the intervention. Samples in this study are all nurses who are in the room of the General Hospital, Surgery and ICU Bima Hospital, which are 50 people. The results showed the results of different tests using paired t-test p value = 0.000 which can be concluded that there are differences between the intervention group and the control group, seen from the value of the difference in the intervention group is greater than the difference in the control group can be interpreted as education using more booklets affect the increase in nurse knowledge. The conclusion in this study was that there were significant differences in nurses' knowledge after being given education using pre and post intervention booklets between the intervention and control groups (p = 0.000).
