This chapter chronicles Gaither’s last season as head coach at FAMU. The highlight was FAMU’s first game against a PWI when it defeated the University of Tampa. Additionally, Gaither won his 200th game of his career, making him one of the winningest coaches in college football history. Off the field, 1969 was the last year of segregated high schools in Florida. The federal government ordered the end of the dual education system. The closing of black high schools, and the subsequent firing of teachers and coaches, removed a vital cog of FAMU’s sporting congregation.

This article has the objective of explicating and analyzing the influence of the National Security and Development Doctrine, main ideological support of the civilmilitary coup of 1964, in the reforms implemented by the Brazilian Government on national education, particularly through the reform of elementary and high schools promoted by the Law 5.692/71 and the University reform. It hopes to show that such reforms aimed, above all, to adapt the education system to the economical and political model of that period, aiming to transform it into a promotional instrument for the country’s security and development, in the molds set by the National Security and Development Doctrine.

This article is devoted to the features and benefits of a professionally-oriented approach to teaching a foreign language in non-linguistic high schools on the example of engineering education. According to the latest standards of higher education (FSES 3++), students must have sufficient knowledge of a foreign language for business communication in oral and written forms. However, teachers of high schools face a number of difficulties in the formation of a foreign language communicative competence offuture engineers, namely: a constant decrease of a number offoreign language practical classes in a curriculum of a high school and a weak motivation of students. In our opinion, a professionally-oriented approach to teaching helps to solve these problems and make the process of learning a foreign language more intensive, focused and effective. That is, now, the development of strategies, methodological models and tools for teaching English, with a focus on professional communication, is an actual task for an English teacher at the University. This article presents some methods and techniques that stimulate students of engineering faculty to professionally oriented communication in English. Much attention is paid to both active teaching methods used during practical English classes, and individual work, which allows students to get more useful information and skills within the practical classes given, and also allows students to develop the need for individual knowledge acquisition and comprehension, thereby providing the increased interest of communication in a foreign language and increasing motivation to learn a foreign language.

The present study offers a descriptive history of the football grounds at Baylor from 1894 to 2014. The current review identifies important individuals and notable events that impacted the football facilities at Baylor. Moreover, the contextual factors influencing each period of change were recognized, and it was determined if Baylor’s facilities followed the pattern of other regional peers. In the case of Baylor, football ultimately created social anchors for the institution and Waco because the increasing popularity and commercial interest in college football produced spectacles capable of providing a unique campus spirit. Next, the spectacle of football and spirit both established and improved alumni relationships and corresponded with interest in elevating the prestige of the university and city to attract students, visitors, and businesses to operate in the area. Finally, the construction of various Baylor football playing grounds produced significant media attention capable of boosting enrollments and recognition that Baylor was a major university.
