Sweet potato was incorporated into layers diet to replace 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 per cent levels of maize respectively. The effect on the performances of 26-weck old pullets for 10 weeks was studied. Replacement of maize with dried sweet potato up to 20% in layers ration, did not have an appreciable effect on feed intake, weight gain, total egg production, egg weight and feed conversion, as the apparent differences were not significant

Vitamin E and zinc are necessary for preventing free radical damage to phospholipid membranes, enzymes and other important molecules. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of dietary vitamin E and zinc levels on performance and lipid oxidation in fresh and stored eggs of laying duck. A total of 90 of 22 weeks old ducks were randomly divided into 15 experimental units by assigning a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 3 replications. The treatment diets were R1 (control diet), R2 (R1+40 IU vitamin E), R3 (R1+80 IU vitamin E), R4 (R1+100 ppm organic zinc), and R5 (R1+200 ppm organic zinc).The experiment was carried out for 8 wk. Parameters observed were feed intake, egg production, egg weight, feed conversion ratio, and Thiobarbituric Acid Reactive Substances (TBARS) value. The results showed that increasing of vitamin E from 40 IU to 80 IU and zinc from 100 ppm to 200 ppm did not affect feed intake and egg weight. Otherwise, the dietary Vitamin E and organic zinc significantly decreased (P<0.05) feed conversion ratio and significantly increased (P<0.05) egg production and decreased (P<0.01) TBARS values. It is concluded that dietary 40 IU vitamin E or 100 ppm organic zinc could increase the performance of laying ducks and dietary 200 ppm organic zinc was more efective to be antioxidant than 40 and 80 IU vitamin E.

Twenty groups of 36 laying hens in individual cages were fed on one of 5 diets in which the energy:protein ratio was constant. Diets 1 to 5 had crude protein 12.0, 12.9, 14.0, 15.0 and 16.0% and metabolizable energy 8.71, 9.57, 10.27, 11.10 and 11.70 MJ/kg. From 24 to 64 weeks old, egg production of hens given diets 1 to 5 was 71.46, 71.31, 72.51, 71.13 and 69.99%, respectively. Corresponding values of mean egg weight, weekly feed intake and efficiency of feed conversion were 60.51, 60.47, 61.11, 61.02, 61.07 g; 157.16, 147.56, 142.03, 130.37, 126.72 g; 3.674, 3.460, 3.262, 3.031, 3.014 kg feed/kg egg, respectively. Two hundred and sixteen Golden Hubbard strain of laying eggs, aged 32 weeks, were used to investigate the optimal level of maize offal (MO) that could replace maize with no detrimental effects on the performance of the hens. Graded levels of MO(0, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50%) replaced equal levels of maize in six dietary treatments (1 to 6 respectively). There were no significant (P>0.05) differences between diets in egg production and weight weight gain of the hens. Egg weight was highly influenced (P<0.01) by the dietary treatments, with 30% MO producing the heaviest eggs. Increasing dietary levels of MO significantly (P<0.01) significantly increased feed consumption. Feed conversion efficiency differed (P>0.05) only at 50% levels of dietary MO. Of the egg quality parameters investigated, albumen, yolk and shell percentages were not affected (P>0.05) by the MO, while the Haugh Units were (P<0.05).

A total of 448, Sakini (224) and Giriraja (224) breed of chickens were used to investigate the feed intake & weight gain from 0-150 days and egg production and egg quality from 150 – 240 days of age in Khumaltar Lalitpur Nepal. The four different levels of probiotics viz. 0,5, 10 and 15 ml of Probiotic (Poultry biosa)/kg of feed were used with randomized factor design 2*4*8(RBD) with 8 treatments and 8 replications. The data was recorded daily on feed intake and egg production and in every 15 days interval for weight gain. Results showed that the addition of probiotic to the feed significantly improved feed intake, weight gain , egg production and egg quality on sakini and giriraja breeds of chickens(P<0.05). Additionally, data on egg production and egg quality showed increased production in treatment group than control group (P<0.05).The general trend revealed increasing level of egg production from five to eight months with significant difference (P<0.05). Nutrient analysis of eggs by proximate analysis in terms of CP, CF, fat and energy showed significant difference (P<0.05). Thus to conclude, there is positive effect of probiotics for production and productivity in terms of feed conversion ratio, weight gain, egg production & egg quality in Sakini and Giriraja breed of Chicken. Five layer diets were formulated containing 0.5,10, 15 and 20% Anthonotha macrophylla seed meal which replaced equivalent proportion of groundnut cake. One hundred and eighty Babcock brown layers already 3 months in lay were randomized into 5 groups and each group was fed one of the experimental diets for 84 days. The hens were examined for performance using body weight. teed intake, henday egg production, egg weight and feed conversion ratio. The interior quality of Eggs were also assessed. Total feed intake ranged from 9.27 to 10.97kg, average daily feed intake, from 110.32 to 130.54 g/bird/day, hen-day egg production, from 48.88% to 79.11% and feed conversion ratio, from 1.87 to 2.15. Statistical analysis showed that total feed intake,  average daily feed intake and hen - day egg production were similar across the dictary treatments up to the 15% level of inclusion, but were significantly depressed (P<0.05) at the 20% inclusion level.  However, diet had no significant effect on final body weight and average egg weight and feed conversion ration (P>0.05). Similarly results on egg quality showed no significant effect (P>0.05) on albumen index, yolk index, yolk colour, Haugh unit and shell thickness. Based on these results, it was concluded that Anthonotha macrophylla seed meal can be incorporated into layer diets up to 15%, inclusion level without incurring a depression in performance Layer diets containing this meal ingredient had no deleterious effect on egg quality.

The study was carried out on (720) chicks of three strains of Japanese quail (desert, black and white) to investigate of effects the strain and shape of rations (crushed, granulated and crumbly) and by three treatments with four replicates for each strain during the growth period (1- 35 days), and 324 females of the same breeds. Three treatments with four replicates per breed during egg production (42- 101 days). The results showed significant differences (P≤0.05) of strain effects on body weight, weight gain, feed conversion coefficient-, carcass weight during the growth stage, and egg weight during the egg production stage. As for the effect of the diet, it was found that there were significant differences (P≤0.05) for Vivo weight characteristics, weight gain, feed conversion coefficient, carcass weight during the growth stage, egg weight and its mass, total eggs during the stage of egg production. While for the effect of the interaction between the strain and form of fodder showed the results significant differences (P≤0.05) in vivo weight and weight gain and feed conversion factor and carcass weight and net growth stage, crust ratio, egg weight, total egg number, total egg mass and albumin concentration during egg production. As for the economic calculations, the results showed that the desert quail breed got the best profit (Iraqi dinar/ kg live weight) during the growth phase, while the white quail breed got the best profit (Iraqi dinar/kg eggs) during the production phase of eggs. The best profit due to the effect of the form of the diet was the share of fodder grain during the growth and egg production. The best profit for the interaction of the strain and the form of the bush was the interaction of the desert quail strain with grain feed during the growth stage, and the interaction of the white quail strain with grain feed during the egg production.

The study was conducted to determine the effect of organic acids supplementation on body weight changes, feed intake, feed efficiency, egg production, egg weight and egg quality in laying hens at age between 67 and 74 weeks. A total of 48 Shaver 579 laying hens of 67 weeks age were allotted into 4 groups, each containing 12 hens. The hens were fed basal diet (17% CP and 2800 kcal ME/kg diet) supplemented with 0 (T1), 260 (T2), 520 (T3) and 780 ppm (T4) of organic acid mixture (fumaric acid and salt of butyric, propionic and lactic acids). The results revealed no effect of organic acids supplementation on body weight change and feed intake but improvement of egg production and feed conversion were observed. Organic acids supplementation significantly increased egg production by about 2.26, 8.0 and 9.84% on 260, 520 and 780 ppm respectively when compared with the untreated group (P<0.05). Feed conversion showed a significant (P<0.05) improvement in laying hen groups which fed on the basal diet supplemented with organic acids at 260, 520 and 780 ppm by about 1.85, 8.48 and 7.74% respectively when compared with the control. On the other hand, dietary organic acid had no effect on the average egg weight, while showed a lower percentage of large (P<0.05) and extra large egg (P<0.01) size compared with control group. Body composition parameters were not affected (P>0.05) by dietary treatments. Inclusion of organic acids improved egg shell thickness (P<0.05) while significantly reduced albumen index (P<0.05). Incorporation of organic acids attributed to significant increase per cent albumen (P<0.01) and significant decrease in yolk per cent (P<0.05). It can be concluded that organic acid supplementation of laying hens diet may improve persistency of lay and feed conversion. From economical point of view, it is concluded that organic acid addition (520 ppm) may result an economic benefit of layer production at older age. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of different tryptophan and digestible lysine ratios for growing Japanese quails (1 to 40 days of age) with repercussions on the early stage of production (41 to 110 days of age). A total of 1000 one day old Japanese quails were distributed at random, with five tryptophan and digestible lysine ratios, 10 replicates and 20 birds per experimental unit. A tryptophan- deficient basal diet was formulated with 1.48 g of digestible tryptophan /kg, corresponding to a ratio of tryptophan and lysine of 0.14. This basal diet was supplemented with five levels of L-tryptophan (98%), replacing glutamic acid corresponding to the tryptophan and lysine ratio of 0.14 (no supplementation); ratios of 0.16; 0.18; 0.20 and 0.22, being the diets isocaloric and isonitrogenous. The performance of the birds in the growing and egg laying phases was evaluated. Although body weight and weight gain until 40 days of age had increased (P<0,001) and feed intake in the egg laying phase had decreased (P=0,037) in a linear fashion, LRP was the one with the best adjustment for those parameters. The effect was quadratic for feed intake (P=0,0069), feed conversion (P=0,0032) and viability (P<0,001) of the birds in the growing phase.  A quadratic effect was found for egg production per bird housed at one day of age (P<0,001), weight gain at 110 days of age (P=0,039) and feed conversion per egg mass (P=0,046) in the laying phase. Intake of tryptophan increased (P<0,001) and egg production per housed bird in the laying phase linearly decreased (P<0,001) with the increase in the ratios between tryptophan and lysine. The digestible tryptophan and digestible lysine ratio is 0.18 (1.88 g of tryptophan/kg and 10.5 g of lysine/kg of diet), corresponding to an intake of 20.63 mg of tryptophan per bird per day, in the diet for growing, provides greater viability of birds in the growing phase and a satisfactory performance of Japanese quails in the laying phase.

Feeding between 0.00 and 54.55 percent of Cypenis bulbs in guinea fowl diets resulted in significantly (P<0.05) different body weight gain, feed intake, egg production and egg weight. Mean weekly body weight gain was significantly (P<0.05) higher in birds fed rations containing between 0 and 41% of Cyperus bulb than those on ration containing 54.55% of Cyperus bulb. Males on rations containing between 0 and 41% of Cyperus bulb had significantly (P<0.05) higher weight gains than their female counterparts fed the same rations. Feed intake decreased significantly (P<0.05) with increased inclusion of Cypenis bulb. Weekly feed intake was however significantly (P <0.05) lower in male birds on rations 1 and 2 than those on 3 and 4. The percentage of cocks in semen production ranged from 69.3 to 73.2% and was not significantly affected by ration. Egg weight and egg production became significantly lower (P<0.05) lowered as maize was replaced with Cyperus bulb though production on rations 1 and 2 were statistically similar. The differences in nutrient digestibility and nitrogen retention are probably responsible for the varying performances. The results indicate that except for semen production and feed intake in the male, the other parameters were adversely affected by Cyperus bulb inclusion

<p>Objetivou-se avaliar o efeito de diferentes níveis de sódio na dieta de codornas japonesas na fase de postura. Foram utilizadas 360 codornas japonesas, com idade inicial de 120 dias, distribuídas em delineamento em blocos ao acaso, com seis tratamentos de acordo com o nível de sódio nas dietas, seis repetições e 10 aves por unidade experimental. Para formação das dietas experimenta<strong>i</strong>s foram adicionados à dieta basal 0,000%; 0,126%, 0,252%, 0,378%, 0,504% e 0,630% de sal comum em substituição ao material inerte, de forma a obter os níveis de 0,05%; 0,10%; 0,15%; 0,20%, 0,25% e 0,30% de sódio que constituíram os tratamentos, as dietas foram isoproteicas, isocalóricas e isocálcicas. O período experimental foi de 84 dias divididos em quatro períodos de 21 dias. Os parâmetros avaliados foram consumo de ração, taxa de postura, peso médio de ovos, massa de ovos, peso final e conversão alimentar por massa de ovos. Foi observado efeito quadrático para consumo de ração, taxa de postura, massa de ovos, peso final e conversão alimentar por massa de ovos e efeito linear para peso médio de ovos. O nível de sódio para codornas japonesas na fase de postura foi de 0,208%, referente a um consumo de 5,4g de sódio por dia.<strong> </strong></p><p><em>Sodium levels in food of Japanese quail in the laying phase</em></p><p><strong>Abstract</strong><strong>: </strong>Objective to evaluate the effect of different levels of sodium in the diet of Japanese quails. Was observed quadratic effect on feed intake, egg production, egg mass, final weight and feed conversion per egg mass and linear effect for egg weight. The sodium level for Japanese quails is 0,208% with respect to an intake of 5,4g of sodium per day.</p><br /><strong></strong>
