THE effectiveness of using maize starch, warm water, cold water, groundnut oil, palm oil and cold storage [refrigerator] in preserving the quality of eggs was studied. Groundnut oil, palm oil and cold storage were equally effective in preserving the quality of eggs while maize starch, cold water and warm water were found ineffective. The effectiveness of palm oil and groundnut oil was further enhanced when the oil-treated eggs were stored in the refrigerator for four weeks. Treatment with groundnut oil for one minute before storage for four weeks was considered the preferred method of preserving the quality of eggs.

This study aims to study the sustainability of oil palm cultivation among smallholders in Lahad Datu on The Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) Certification. A total of 300 oil palm smallholders in Lahad Datu, Sabah were interviewed using a set of questionnaires. The results of the analysis of this study show that oil palm smallholders have awareness of MSPO certification. Although they are aware of the need to have MSPO certification, they do not have such certification. Awareness of having MSPO certification can improve the quality of the environment while being able to increase the production efficiency and productivity of their oil palm plants. However, the management of the plantation by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) which is often undergoing changes and many application forms that need to be filled is the main reason why the oil palm smallholders do not get the MSPO certification. Strategic measures and awareness programs related to the importance of MSPO certification and related to oil palm cultivation need to be planned more widely by MPOB, in addition to introducing certification applications with a user-friendly, systematic, and innovative concept to attract more oil palm smallholders to obtain MSPO certification in line with the government’s efforts to optimize high-quality palm oil production in the future.

Abstract: Transparent soap is a opaque one having clear structure. This soap has high
transparency level. Transparent soap is produced by saponification of oil or fat with NaOH
solution at 60-70
C. This research aims study the effect of composition of coconut oil and palm
oil (100:0; 90:10; 80:20; 70:30; 60:40 g/g) mixture on the quality of transparent soap. The free
fatty acid (FFA) level of coconut oil was 0.8% and that of palm oil was 1.07%. In this work, there
were 3 processes separately, namely saponification reaction, transparent structure forming, and
curing. Saponification reaction was done by reacting stearic acid in fatty acid phase and NaOH
at 60-70
o
o
C. Stearic acid was melted with heating until melted and some oil was added. After
obtaining homogeneous mixture between stearic acid an oil, then NaOH 30% solution was
added. The forming of transparent structure was conducted by adding propylene, glycol,
glycerin, sugar solution and ethanol 70% into saponification product. To produce soap color and
aroma, the colorant and fragrance were added. Then, the soap was casted and cured for 24
hours by storing it at room temperature. The result of transparent soap analysis for coconut oil
compositions of 100%, 90%, 80%, 70%, and 60%, it was obtained that the water level were
18.36%, 18.24%, 18.66%, 18.66%, and 18.56%, respectively. The free alkali contained in
transparent soaps were 0.078%, 0.078%, 0.0796%, 0.0804%, and 0.0796%. The yields were
62.78%, 62.25%, 62.49%, 60.88%, 59.79%, and the pH of transparent soap was 9. The best
composition of coconut oil and palm oil mixture was 90:10 while the ratio of coconut oil and
palm oil mixture composition resulting the highest yield was 100:0.
Keywords: Transparent soap, Saponification, Coconut oil, Palm oil

Productions of crude palm oil (CPO) produce waste which include the empty oil palm fruit bunch (EOPFB), palm oil mill effluent, shells, and fiber. The combustions of shell and fiber as boiler feed produce waste in the form of boiler ash. Boiler ash is very potential to use as an additive to improve quality of the EOPFB compost. The objectives of this research were to study : 1) effect of boiler ash on the quality of the EOPFB compost, 2) effect of EOPFB compost on the chemical properties of Ultisol, and the yield of mustard. The first experiment was about quality improvement of compost from EOPFB by the addition of boiler ash. The treatments applied were four dose levels of boiler ash: K1= 0%, K2 = 15%, K3 = 25%, and K4 = 35%. The second experiment was greenhouse pot experiment. This experiment was consisted of thirteen treatments with three replications arranged in completely randomized design (CRD). The treatments applied were: four types of compost from the first experimental results aplied to the soil with four dose levels, i.e : 0, 10, 20 and 30 Mg ha-1. The results showed that the addition of boiler ash at the beginning of the composting process improved the quality of the EOPFB compost: which increased pH, amount of humic acids, macro and micro nutrients content and decreased content of Pb. The aplication of all compost –K1, K2, K3, K4– to Ultisol increased pH H2O, P2O5, organic-C, total-N, exchangeable-Ca, exchangeable-K and yield of mustard and decreased exchangeable-H, exchangeable-Al. Moreover the yield of mustard was increased about 84% (33.9 g plant-1) with K4 at doses 20 Mg ha-1 and 85% (34.1 g plant-1) with K3 at doses 10 Mg ha-1.

The price of oil palm is a challenge posed by oil palm farmers at the moment, a decrease in the price of oil palm can be calculated by blocking from abroad the Indonesian CPO, opening new land and increasing the current budget of the price of oil palm to be very cheap when compared to the previous 2 years. This cheap price has an impact on reducing the allocation for plant maintenance which will also have a direct impact on quality and will have another impact. For this reason, research on the impacts of oil palm on sustainability is needed and factors that can be proposed for improvement. This research uses SSM, AHP and ISM methods to get more complete results. SSM research results indicate the need for improvements to infrastructure to transport oil palm yields, a guarantee of the selling1 price of FFB and improvement in the quality of human resources of oil palm farmers is very necessary. ISM results show government, farmer groups, farmer groups, and cooperatives can join together to improve the quality of oil palm products, join together to send crops directly to PKS to get better prices with the support of cooperatives and local governments. Further research from this research is the formation of models that are produced according to ISM results.

Oil Palm fresh fruit bunch (FFB) transportation is a vital step in post harvest process. Transportation condition mayaffects the quantity and quality of FFB as a palm oil factory raw material. Due to many estate roads are not at idealcondition, this research was addressed to explore the relationship between road damage level and position of FFBin truck bin to transportation performance. Transportation performance indicator were leftover fruit, level of releasedfruitlets, fruits bruise index, and free fatty acid (FFA) content. The research divided into two stage. The first wason transportation performance in collection road. The second was FFB transportation from fruit collection point tofactory, which was treated on good, moderate, and bad road. Observation was done to the FFB at bottom, middleand upper layer of truck bin. The transportation performace indicators were analized by Anova, and continued byTukey method analysis if there were differentces among treatments. Result showed that level of road damage wassignificantly affect transportation performace indicator i.e level of leftover fruits, but it was not significantly affectlevel of released fruitlets, fruits bruise index, and FFA content. Meanwhile, FFB position in truck bin influenced levelof fruitlets releasing, and significantly influenced fruits bruise index. Keywords: Palm oil transportation, leftover fruits, released fruitlets, bruise index, oil Pal FFB ABSTRAKPengangkutan tandan buah segar (TBS) kelapa sawit merupakan satu tahap penting dalam proses pascapanen.
